As a Hungarian is so funny to hear the response for How are you? is Fine and you?. Usually we say all of our problems. For example I am tired, I feel little bit ill, I have to go ...(somewhere you really do not want to go) etc. Ok, maybe it is changing nowadays. I feel, we ask it rather when we are interested in the response. One more thing: What is your name? is Hogy hívnak? I use it against Mi a neved? Anyway, I love videos about my language and see to someone take care of it. :) Good luck everyone and enjoy your journey to learn magyar. :D

If you want to dig into the grammar, then I'd strongly recommend investing in a book on Hungarian grammar. Such a book will complement these youtube videos very well. I've been learning different languages for 30 years or so, and in my experience, a grammar book is indispensable (or multiple ones is even better). One Hungarian grammar book I like is the one by Carol Rounds, _Hungarian: An Essential Grammar_, published by Routledge. You can find PDFs online if you search a bit.

I wish I remembered phrased. My dad made us stop speaking Hungarian when I was 5. I'm now 71. He faced a lot of discrimination here( spoke 7 languages fluently Came from Sicily but spokeHungarian too. My mom spoke Hungarian, although born here. Was sent to school with lots of other children of immigrants to learn English before started first grade. Smart idea. So many European and Mediterranean languages spoken in Cleveland Ohio to at that time. Many settled in groups ,together in Cleve. I'd run up and down my maternal grandma's street,up onto front porches where 5ge grandparents sat outside playing cards. They'd pinch our cheeks, offer us cookies they'd made after calling 5heir grandchildren out of house to go with us to school playground at head of street, but across it. Then we'd go on to next house, and next. Same thing repeated. Kids spoke English but also their families native tongue. It was normal to us. I grew up thinking all cities were like that ,lol. Hungarian seems hard now,but 5gen my hearing is bad,so looking at words in Hungarian doesn't really help me. I'm very upset still, that my dad told us we had to speak English from now on. Even at home. He didn't want us to face the mean ,hateful,tx that Americans gave him. Telling him ....go home Foreigner. We don't want you here !.... I heard people outside the Italian city we moved to in Ohio, when I was 2 . The city right next to us( Willowick ) said it to my dad one day as he went into the small hardware store to buy something. The owner said it to him! Guess 5gay man forgot 5hat at one time his ancestors came here ( from England I assume). He certainly wasn't a Native American. He was a WASP (white,Anglo- Saxon Protestant). I was so hurt when I heard him say that to us. My father was more intelligent than him dressed better, had impeccable manners. Spoke 6 languages fluently, could do ANYTHING,from fix everything ,cars included, build a house ,wire it,do all the plumbing, roofing, plastered all the walls, put in a garden, grow fruit trees( also graft other varieties of fruit trees onto a diff fruit tree. I use to watch him. Had several 5ypes of apples on one tree. Cut up our steer when grown( free roaming, grass fed and finished). He did mortar work, laid wood and tile floors, fixed anything electric, tvs too. We never had a repair man,as he learned how to do it all, growing up in Sicily, and traveling all over Europe and Mediterranean ,with his Dad,Uncles , Brothers. That's why he spoke so many languages fluently. His dad had a large farm, did mortar work ,made alcohol in huge vats for govt.,etc. There were 18 children born to his mom and dad. 14 lived past 5 yrs old His,my maternal grandma's,my mom's and uncles, and all their cousins ,lived very interesting lives. They were First Generation ,as was I to my dad. I was second generation Americans to my mom's family. She was first,as were all her cousins. All the family ,and cousins lived near each other when came to Cleveland from Hungary. They usually lived with a family member who had come here ahead of 5hem,from Hungary, married and settled here, started families. Pretty much the same story for all those who came here to live, but born in another Country

"Hagy": ok, it's "leave", but it can also used if you lose something, like "Elhagytam a személyimet" - I lost my ID card. Or maybe more useful for visitors, because it happens a lot: Elhagytam az útlevelem - I lost my passport. Or worse: Ellopták az útlevelem - My passport was stolen (literally: they stole my passport; in this case no need to specify who these "they" actually are, it is a generic term. Passive is not used as widely as in English)

4:31 There should be a comma after "Köszönöm". 5:12 There should be a comma after "Kérem". 5:29 There should be a comma in front of "Kérem". 11:00 There should be a comma after "tudom". 13:50 There should be a comma after "Hallod". 16:32 Technically there should be an exclamation mark at the end of that sentence, but no one considers that a big mistake. 16:46 It should be either "A szobatársam a kórházban dolgozik." or "My rommate works at a hospital.". Anyway, I appreciate this video, and the fact that you speak Hungarian without any noticeable accent is amazing.

Hi, thanks for the video. We Hungarians are proud of our history. My name is Christopher Joseph Anthony Szenttornyai and i was born in Montreal Quebec but my father and his parents are from Hungary. On my mothers side there is Hungarian also and her family name was Barkie. My bloodline is over 80 % Hungarian. I wanted to say that you are very beautiful. I wish i could find a good Hungarian women.

Actually morning in Hungarian is not "reggelt" but "reggel". "t" is added because we deal here with a noun case. "Jó reggelt" is short for "Jó reggelt kivanok", that's why a case appears "I wish you a good morning". An accusative case. Very misleading video!

She literally states at 01:44 that "reggel" means "morning", and simultaneously they even highlight the "reggel" (without the "t") in the text.

Én azt, hogy "szia" meg hogy "sziasztok" nem tanítanám külföldieknek, hanem ehelyett a normális magyar köznyelvet. Ahogyan pl - német nyelvterületen - sohasem használom a bizalmas "tsüss" t.

Gy in Hungarian is similar to the English “dg”, except you’ll add a subtle “yuh” sound on the end.
