Basic Dog Grooming and How to Cut a Dog’s Hair ~ Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Demo Video

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

DIY Dog Grooming at Home. I'm not a professional dog groomer, nor do I play one on TV. I do, however, bathe, groom, and clip Dexter at home. This dog grooming video is to share with you my techniques and what has worked for my dog grooming at home. If you are looking for a more professional look, I would highly recommend taking your dog to your local groomer or even taking a few pet grooming courses yourself. If you don’t have a groomer you love, ask your friends for recommendations. Read more on the blog. raisingyourpetsnaturally.com/... Clippers amzn.to/2zX7S0T

    I'm so thankful for this. I get my Cavalier puppy next year so I'm trying to research everything. I'm hoping to keep mine in a natural yet slightly more practical style like Dexter. I was beginning to find all the puppy cut shave videos disheartening. You've done a fantastic job getting Dexter used to getting his paws clipped. One of my huskies never truly got over how ticklish she found that.

    How do you keep his ears so long? I have to keep mine at about shoulder's length, because of food and everything else getting stuck in there..... And this is, by far, the best grooming video for cavies on KZread. Thank you:)

    Thank you. Oh, gosh, I'm not that good to keep things tracked and the same each time. I just go with the flow with Dex. It was one that was closer, but not too close. If really thick, you go a little at a time and can change guards, large to small.

    What size clipper blade do you use? I have a #40 blade, which is for surgical clips. I have heard a #30 blade is useful for general clipping for feet and to clean up the face. Any thoughts?

    I'm glad it helped. These are the clippers I use, it may be a bit different model because I've had mine for ages. Clippers amzn.to/2zX7S0T I wipe Dexter's eyes with warm water and a washcloth. Eye dripping can be allergies, weather, diet, medication, or health. Also a combination. I struggle with Dexter's yeast, likely due to his seasonal allergies and his disease/medications. Can you guide me in how to choose an excellent breeder for a cavalier? I’m in Aurora, Mo close to Springfield. I’ve raised a precious female, Blenheim who had so many medical issues including surgeries. I had thousands of dollars in vet bills. I didn’t know anything about this breed I saw her, fell in love and took her home. She was the sweetest, smartest baby one could ever hope for. I’ve been researching for the last two months all things Cavalier. I’m quite sure she was a puppy mill baby but even so If I could bring her back I would. It was awfully painful to see her go through what she did. Thank you for any help you may be able to give me.

    As you know, you never know if a dog will have a health issues down the road. I know for me, my next pup's breeder will be doing MRI scans of parents/grands etc. Here is an article I wrote. raisingyourpetsnaturally.com/questions-to-ask-a-dog-breeder/

  • @raisingyourpetsnaturally

    @raisingyourpetsnaturally

    Stainless steel, glass or food grade ceramic. There are some "spaniel bowls" out there on the market with small openings to help keep ears out. I've found bowls in the human kitchen area that are small. Dexter has 3 that are cleaned and refilled daily.

    Puppies need lots of activity and engagement throughout the day. Training games, walks, play etc. Puppies can't have full-on physical activity until after their growth plates close (2-years). You can check my blog for loads of info. raisingyourpetsnaturally.com/blog-s-post-lis/

    With respect, if you can’t spare 1/2 hr a day for a brisk walk with your Cavalier, it probably isn’t the right breed for you. They can run like the wind and love to play.

    @@raisingyourpetsnaturally thank you! I recently changed his diet to JustFoodFor Dogs. Turns out Luka is allergic to poultry. Symptoms: Sever allergies, scratching licking, ear infections, and loose stools. Poor little guy was miserable. Now his diet consists of Sweet Yams w/ skin, Russet Potatoes w/ skin, Broccoli, Green String Beans, and Cod fish. I cut it all up, add some water, and put it in the pressure cooker for 10 min., then add safflower oil and DIY Fish and sweet potato nutrition blend. I say all this to say that since the food change his stools are great. Perhaps he is getting enough fiber. I really don't notice a lot of booty scooting. Thank you for the link, I learned a lot! I am thinking of learning how to groom my own dog and with the anal sack explanation, I feel more confident of doing the grooming. Not just to save money but also because I have observed groomers being a bit too rough with their fur clients. Thank you again! I just started following you on instagram today!
