Anyone who's having trouble with the 'solidify' step, and their mushroom is just expanding into a hot mess. Tab into edit mode, press A to select everything, and choose Mesh>Normals>Flip.
@giampieropaglione2447

Did you apply the scale to the object before doing the solidify step?
@joschisaurus182
2 жыл бұрын
For some reason, even after applying the scale and doing this, my mushroom still expands when I change the thickness setting of the solidify modifier. In the transform tab under scale it says that it's set to 1.000 on every axis, but even when I lock them, the mushroom expands when I change the thickness. My current Blender version is 3.1.2, and I followed each of your steps 1:1.

Hey , I'm having trouble with this step for my mushroom stem even after doing mesh>normals>flip. its worked fine with the mushroom cap but not with the stem, it just becomes a huge blob of purple . how do i fix this?

Noted watching blender tutorials is incredibly satisfying, like watching those "building a house out of mud" series
Hey man, loving this tutorial so far. Is there any chance you might be able to turn on the function in Blender that shows what keys you're pressing? It would be super helpful for someone like me who is still trying to learn all the shortcuts.

I didn't know you could do that - I'll make sure to do so for future tutorials.

first blender tutorial I've been able to follow fully for 3d - probably helps that I know grease pencil but amazing stuff and really helpful, so thanks
This is such a good tutorial! It doesn't explain to much nor to little. Thanks for taking the time to make this
I DID IT! I followed this tut (first ever time following a Blender tutorial) and minus a couple trial and error issues, it came out looking amazing! And not only that, but with this being my first Blender project, I now feel comfortable with a lot of the keyboard shortcuts. Can't recommend this tut enough.
Please do more tutorials like this! It's so complete! I feel like I really started to learn how to do it! And I love that you picked a natural element like mushrooms! Please do more tutorials with plants, trees, etc! The toon shader and grease pencil are amazing! I looooove it!!

We got a whole series on creating a full scene like this coming up next, so stay tuned!
I appreciate that this is not only great looking, but deceptively easy to execute. There are so many things with Blender that feel absurdly complex and unintuitive that having something quick and easy that looks nice is always a welcome addition to my notes. Half the time I feel like I'm spending more time writing notes than actually using Blender.
Dude I have been looking at NPR shaders for like months, and never have I seen someone just toss a bsdf into a shader to rbg.... thats so insanely usefull. Dont get me wrong, building a complex shader has its advantages for characters and major elements, but I can imagine using this for small objects or background items for speed. Thanks for this!

awesome tutorial!!! been looking for that cell shaded look for a while now and turns out it was color ramp all along hahaha thank u so much tip tut!!! the backface thingy that makes it look like the mushroom has an outline is such a great idea, will rewatch later again and apply what i learned to my school projects 💜
Please do continue with more of these! Amazing tutorial cant wait to try soon!
Thank you for this! This was a perfect follow up to the Donut one- fast enough where I had to focus but clear enough that if I just went back and watched a little more carefully I could catch what I missed. Again thank you!
The combination of cel shading and grease pencil is a game changer. Thanks man. Wonderfully explained.
Thank you so much for this tutorial, as a learner it was very easy to follow and i had so much fun and am very proud of my end result. i have subbed and shared with my friends. best tutorial ever.

It reminded me of the Risk of Rain 2 game art style, amazing work!
Is there any chance you would consider a tutorial on making Characters with this style? (Toon/ cell shader) It would be awesome to model/sculpt them up and rig them to work with the toon shader world. It would really compliment the environment style.

Yeah i just applied this to my model, and while it looks amazing its a nightmare for rigging lol. Any tips on this? @tiptut
@oversalt4713

@@mikecicciari845 Not sure if this will help you, but its saved me a lot of time: rig first, texture last. Other YTs you can also check out are Dikko for intermediate / advanced NPR & toon shading and Lightning Boy Studio for advanced toon shading. Each method is useful for different things, and most use the inverted hull (solidify mod) method for outlines, just keep in mind this doubles the polycount of your geometry.
