Thank you for creating the best video to set up focusrite 2i2. I have looked at several videos when I purchased the product. The creators did give instructions, step by step, on how to connect the audio interface to your computer. Kyle, you targeted the right audience, Beginners! I have subscribed to your channel because I know you will do a fantastic job on "how to set up" videos on tech products.

To reduce latency for overdubs when recording through plug-ins, lower the buffer size in your DAW as low as possible (usually 64 samples.) While this setting is not always possible, depending on your PC/Mac CPU capability, 128 to 256 samples is almost always acceptable with a track or two with virtually any modern computer. Overdubbing is usually quite acceptable in the 5-10ms range a small buffer size offers. And always turn phantom power off and wait a few seconds to discharge the 12-48volts of current BEFORE unplugging a condenser mic to avoid a “pop” that could destroy a driver!

I watched a number of these types of videos and what makes you the best is you aren't rushing nor taking too long to stress a point but most importantly you assume that the people watching already understand the lingo like DAWS. I watched a video before yours and they kept saying DAWS and never took the time to explain what it meant. But you do did and thats one of the many reasons why you're the best!

Great video, is it possible to play other sounds also while recording? I tried UMC22 (Asio drivers) and Reaper but I could only record but not play other sounds meanwhile (Guitar pro, Spotify, KZread,...).

For just voice audio recording I've found that setting up my Samson Q9U into my 2i2 3rd Gen into Reaper, I have to turn the gain on the Focusrite almost to 100% just to get near the -18db level. From watching other videos with this setup, it seems like they hit that mark with the gain set at 50% or just a little more. What am I missing?

Awesome video, well done! I have a Scarlet 2in2, i also have a Rode videomic go (dslr mic) the cable for the mic is a minijack TRS cable. It seems like the Scarlet wont register the microphone. Is it anyway i can fix this? I´ve tried both a TS and TRS minijack to jack adapter, but have not tried with a TS cable

Hi! Thanks for the guide. Can you confirm one thing about the headphone jack before i purchase? I have a pair of Beyerdynamic headphones with a 6,3mm jack. If i plug these into the front, am i able to hear sound from the pc such as music and games and my own voice for monitoring?

Cool video! I just got my first interface for Xmas, the 2i2 and I'm starting with Reaper. Is it the same if I just want to practice and not record? Thanks.

If you don't want to record, you can just use the 'Direct Monitor' without a DAW. When you're ready to record, follow the steps in the video!

Hello, I was wondering if maybe you could help me out with my current setup, I’ve have these presonus 3.5 Eris monitors for a few years now and I love them, I just bought a new 2i2 and the presonus sub8 subwoofer, to pair with my monitors. Now my question is do I have to leave the subwoofer on at all times ? Or do I have to always bend down under my desk to turn them off all the time? There’s no bypass pedal or anything on this sub, and I just realized that yesterday too, what if I want to use the monitors without the sub ? So I turned off the sub and tried playing from the monitors only and the sound is so low becusee the inputs are coming from the powered off subwoofer. I hope this makes sense, and I know long.... but it’s very frustrating, I’m thinking my only option is to get the t10 presonus sub that comes with a bypass pedal or maybe plug my sub8 that I have now into a wifi outlet which then I could power off using the app on my phone/or with Alexa. I still find that a off solution. But if you have any knowledge of this or maybe seen other setup and how they deal with such things I would 100% appreciate it!!!

Excellent video! I'm a beginner in all this and am interested in the setup to record vocals on pre-arranged background soundtrack, karaoke-style. Do you have a video on such?

I think this video is the closest to what you’re looking for. The steps are basically the same. Just drag in your backing track first and then follow these steps to record over it.

What about making 2 stereo tracks instead of mono tracks if for example you want to record just 2 mics in a podcast case? Why only one TRS jack on the back output of Scarlett? what is the Air swich on Scarlett used for?

Hope you can give me some advice on headphone (output). I am using Scarlett 2i2 3rd gen. I can't herar my recording through my headphones connected to my laptop. I use Adobe Audition. I went into preferences/audio hardware and I see input but i don't see output anywhere. Or does the output go back to the Focusrite 2i2 and am supposed to monitor my recording and playback thru the headphone jack on the audio interface 2i2. This simple thing has got me completely baffled. Hope you can point me in the right direction.

Hello, great instructional video! Quick question... if I wanted to use this device to record multiple tracks for electric guitar, bass, keyboard, and electric drums it should work fine, right?

The Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 that I’m using in this video will allow you to record up to 2 tracks at a time. You can layer as many tracks as you want with separate takes. Thanks for watching, San Miguel Tejada!
