The most important function of the Line/Inst Switch is changing the input impedance rather than changing the gain. There are tons of Line/Inst Switches which are don't affect the gain on Audio interfaces, Audio mixers, and DI boxes.

Hi ! I am so glad I found your channel. Your contents are so good. Thank you for it! I have two queries. Query 1 : If we have to connect 10 different musical instruments to an audio interface (assuming that it has 10 inputs) and take 10 outputs of the same into computer to process all 10 channels in a DAW simultaneously (all instruments played simultaneously) how do we connect between the computer and the audio interface ? Is it the same one USB cable ? or do we need multiple USB ? How many channels can a single USB carry simultaneously ? Query 2: If I have to record the drums in a DAW in a computer using an audio interface that has only 2 inputs, and 2 outputs, can't we use more than 2 microphones for drums ?

Very helpful, thank you. Sorry to bother you and thanks for reading. I have been searching the web for this audio interface (U-Phoria UMC22) and i wanted to buy it but i couldn't find an answer to my question. Can i use the xlr input with 48v+ phantom power enabled and AT THE SAME TIME use my studio monitors?(NOT for listening to myself, for listening to pc like calls, videos, music etc) Like in a discord call would i be able to speak with my condenser mic and hear my friends with my speakers connected to this sound card? I know it can create feedback and noise or echo but i can have this fixed (nvidia's rtx voice). If it can't work like that, it can maybe work like this with headphones and not speakers? Thanks again!

So turning the gain knobs on low is enough to unplug/plug any microphones or instruments in? Do I need to turn phantom power off before? So far I've been disconnecting the whole interface every time because I was scared to break anything. But that can't be the solution right? Because I'm switching cables a lot for my purposes

I have followed these steps in setting up my audio interface and have a seemingly simple question and a specific problem based on comments at 2:03 in the video. I selected my interface in the Mac System Preferences so that audio from iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Vimeo, etc. all play through the interface and onto my monitors. The volume slider in the System preferences is all the way at max and I can adjust the output level in the interface as well as the System Preferences. Here's my question: when you got to KZread to play a video, or go to Spotify or Apple Music to play music is the volume slider on these players all the way up? If so, is your audio coming through your audio interface really loud?

Hi, I have question on the line level and instrument level. I have my Yamaha arranger keyboard PSR S975 and a Yamaha Clavinova digital piano and both of them when connected to the line in ports 3,4 at the back they produce extremely low signal. I mean both of them produce the same experience and not that I’m connecting them simultaneously. Even cranking up the vols on the instrument to 100% doesn’t show enough input strength on my GarageBand. Whereas when I connect those to the front and choose instrument level the signals are loud and clear. I’m using Scarlett 4i4. Shouldn’t the keyboards produce strong signals through Line In? Am I missing something? I’m using balanced TRS cables. Thanks I’m advance for any tips.

I bought an interface thing, a 2+1 but in Audacity I expected to see a recording track that shows vocals and guitar split according to their stereo channels(left or right) so that I could then split the track and apply different effects to both. However It combines both vocal and guitar on both stereo channels. I cant record two tracks at the same time either. Don't see what the point is if I cant get discrete channels to show as different tracks. Just wasted my money I think. I understand that ambient guitar sound would feed into the vocal line anyway but I could tweak that with voice isolation and then have two distinct sounds from one recording session. I am going nuts trying to understand it. Everything seems ok on the PC and am starting to conclude its a limitation of Audacity. Any pointers? Cheers!

Hi! Great presentation, Thanks. Question - If I use an Audio Interface like the Focusrite you show and I want to use 2 microphones to record correctly a public meeting (not too large - 8-20 people) with most of the talking done by 7 board members seated at linearly aligned tables, what would you recommend for microphone type/brand? As an example, I am thinking about placing the 2 microphones on the tables in the locations represented by the letter M with P representing a person at the table, like this - P P M P P P M P P. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
