    This digital path can be a little overwhelming for beginners or even an old school metalhead like myself. You break things down step by step so there's no guess work. You're absolutely the best at teaching and sharing your knowledge with others. So inspiring. Thanks Rob for being a working man's go to for tips on how to improve our playing and our overall love of heavy guitars!! Always excited when I get notified that you've released a new video. I run the Apollo Twin X Interface. Honestly the hardest thing was finding a motherboard that supported Thunder Bolt 3, otherwise everything was straight forward. It’s been a life saver since I live with 3 other roommates and can’t blast my guitar like I would at home. Pop in some headphones, get Apple Music running and boom, I can play with the songs and it sounds great. Total advocate for getting your guitar into a computer.

    I use a focusrite and guitar rig 6. I live in an apartment. An upstairs apartment at that. I’m overly concerned about annoying my neighbors so I play a LOT on my computer now. Took me a ton of time and research to figure it out but now I almost prefer to play on the computer with my headphones vs my amp. One note I’d say is make sure you know your speaker or headphone specs. If you’re playing with your audio at low quality frequencies it’s going to sound bad. If you have studio quality headphones/monitors aim for 48,000

    I'm sure it would work out just fine. But as a Mac user, I can't say with 100% certainty. But they're all geared to be used on the system of your choice. I've never used the Focusrite stuff, but I hear of guys using it all the time, and liking it. My recommendation is to just dive in and get started, and figure it out as you go!

    Hey Rob, quick question... so i have the volt connected to the PC... my Speaker system is plugged into the PC 3.5 connection... but i'm not getting any sound from the Volt through speakers? How did you use your Volt with the Klipsh speakers you recommended?

  • @RobArnoldWorld

    @RobArnoldWorld

    Ай бұрын

    I only know the Mac platform well, but I'd say your issue most likely has something to do with your system sound settings. On Mac, I need to go to system preferences, then sound, then I need to tell my Mac to output sound through whatever input I have my speakers connected to. You could also connect your speakers directly to the Volt, and that may help too. Unfortunately there are SO many different scenarios, with everyone having a unique setup and components, so I can't say what exactly will solve your problem. Good luck though, and let me know what happens!

    Sounds awesome. I purchased an m1 MacBook Pro last year but I’ve been experiencing popping and cracking issues whilst using the neural plugins. It’s frustrating as I didn’t have these issues on my old intel iMac. I am using an old focusrite scarlet audio interface though. Not sure if that could be the problem?

  • @RobArnoldWorld

    @RobArnoldWorld

    8 ай бұрын

    In my opinion, the main cause for popping and crackling is signal overload, somewhere along your gain staging path. Whether it's on the input side, or an insert clipping, or your master bus, try not to allow ANYTHING to clip (overload), and I bet that will fix your problem. Another cause for issues you're experiencing might be if you were using a trial version of a plugin, that has now expired. I remember back in the day, all the IK Multimedia guitar stuff acted that way after the trial period was up. You could still use the plugin, but it would randomly pop and crackle, forcing you to purchase out of frustration!

I've always wondered how people post metal/rock/classic rock cover songs on YT and it sounds so high quality with excellent guitar tones, etc. I realize this potentially would be a long video, so no worries if you don't feel like doing that LOL I totally get it. But thank you for posting this vid again. This is a great starting place for me!

    Right on man! Pretty much every interface has outputs that allow you to connect studio monitors. But if you want to connect them directly to your PC (or Mac), you'd simply use the computer headphones output, and you'd need some sort of adaptor or cable, that splits the 1/8" output on your computer, to two 1/4" outputs for your monitors. But there are even easier solutions... For years, before I moved my whole studio operation to my home, I simply used this basic computer monitor setup I got from Costco, and it was great! It sounds fantastic, and served me well for years! Here it is on Amazon... check it out! amzn.to/3Qj29Y8 (no adapters or anything needed. It all plugs into your computers headphones output)

    Bro you don’t need to turn the gain knob, when you play or record guitar. The gain knob always must be set on zero position for the cleanest signal possible. Also you need set the buffer much lover (64 or 32 samples) for minimal latency. Cheers!

    Killer video Rob. What I'd like to see is how you ACTUALLY DO these videos. How the camera, audio AND what you are recording is done. How the video recording works while hearing what you are playing ect. I don't think the camera mic is recording the guitar. Do you record the video and audio from the camera in one program and then record the guitar in another program and then add it in, in editing things like that. Thanks if you consider this. 🤘

  • @RobArnoldWorld

    @RobArnoldWorld

    8 ай бұрын

    Hey thanks bro! So for this particular video I've got: -an overhead camera filming what I'm doing on my desk. -another camera filming me, which is the one I look at when I'm talking. -a microphone attached to my shirt, that's recording my voice, and all audio in the room. This is captured via Pro Tools on my iMac. -a screen recording on my MacBook, that captures everything I'm doing on it, plus the audio that it hears coming from the Volt/amp sim. Then I bring all of those assets into Final Cut Pro, and I create a multi cam edit, and I mix and design everything together in a way I'd like for it to be presented. There's a lot of audio automation involved, because when I'm playing guitar for instance, and I want you guys to hear the amp sim, then I need to duck (or lower) the volume of my speaking mic. Otherwise, you'd be hearing both signals. And sometimes you will hear both signals, depending on the scenario. But the main thing is to capture all of those sources, both audio and video, and then learn how to combine them in post. Hope that helps! It took me a long time to wrap my head around creating and presenting content like this, and I'm still learning every day!

    @@RobArnoldWorld Bro thank you for this. I'm thinking about doing a channel this winter when I'm home from work for 3 months. I just bought a Sony ZV-E1, couple of lens. My rig though is windows. I built a ridiculously powerful "gaming" computer, with thunderbolt connectivity, specifically for my studio. Right now I'm running an Antelope Audio Zen Go as my interface, Sonar for my DAW, and have been using the OTTO AUDIO 11 11 11 11 and the Neural DSP Gojira plug ins pretty much exclusively on my next album. The OTTO is BADASS. I have a pretty geared up studio for being a novice/not full time producer/engineer so I feel I have the core of what I need. This extra bit if info really helped. So next on my list, wireless lavalier mic, pro lighting, good video editing software and learning how to edit it all together. I don't want to do a channel that is cell phone garbage. I want to bring a level of professionalism right out of the gate and improve from there. You, Glenn and Ola have been hugely influential on getting me back into playing and recording. I went on a long hiatus, with all of my amps and guitars packed away for a decade. My band has been around since 95...then in 09 life happened and I had to concentrate on work. BTW...this isn't brown nosing, sucking up or anything like that but I gotta tell ya. Impossibility of Reason is in my top 10 favorite albums of all time. Not even joking. That's one of the shows I want to do when I get this up and running. In fact, I'd 100% recommend you go ahead and start with the Klipsch package I linked you to. Can't go wrong for that price, and everything you pump through it will sound great. Or maybe you even already have a similar setup. Point being, great guitar tone comes first from the playing, then the amp. So you saw the amp I was using in this vid, the Bogren Ampknob stuff, and I recommend giving it a try! Free 14 day trials, so there's nothing to lose! I hope I answered your question.
