Bartolo makes a historic debut for the Rangers
Спорт
Ageless wonder Bartolo Colon made history in his Rangers debut, pitching for a record eight AL teams. He pitched six innings, struck out four and made a fantastic leaping catch

The worst problem I've had with my colon is that it gets really pushy in the morning after I've had my coffee.
young pitchers should watch his delivery. great mechanics.
His command is just. Unworldy. He consistently throws barely 90 and yet here he is, still getting outs at an efficient rate.
his 2 seam is still pretty

How many pitchers are talented enough to successfully make the transition from a power pitcher to a scrappy veteran like Colon? From a young guy who used to take the mound every 5 days with a game plan consisting mainly of trying to throw his 97 mph fastball past every batter he faced to a guy spotting his fastball up and down in the zone and painting the corners with his bread and butter offering showing ten mph slower (or slower). He is a rare physical specimen and I'm not being sarcastic. He has never looked like a guy who kept himself in shape, even going back to his younger days. And look at him now. Guys like Roger Clemens were fitness freaks (amongst other things) and had to dedicate themselves to a rigourous training program to stay competitive. It seems to come naturally for Bartolo. Some guys have pitched as long as he has and had to adjust their style and repertoire to keep their careers alive. Not many have been as effective as Colon. It's amazing. He used to get criticized for being one demensional. He was fastball, fastball, fastball. Sometimes he'd use his two seamer to give a batter a different look. But managers and coaches always wanted him to develop a reliable breaking ball and a change up and throw less fastballs. You can't fault them. Few pitchers can survive on one pitch. But his arm probably has remained so resilient because of his preference for the fastball. Splitters, sliders and curves can ruin pitcher's arms. Some guys undergo more than one major surgery during their career to stay in the game. I'm not sure if Colon suffered many, if any, significant shoulder or elbow injuries. He has fashioned an impressive career in Major League Baseball and kept his arm in tact by not getting cute or trying to trick batters. He just went right after them. Derek Lowe's career was similar to Colon's. He was (from 2002-03 onwards) a very underrated starter who pitched a ton of games for a lot of years, ate up innings and enjoyed a very healthy career by throwing one pitch almost exclusively: a hard sinker. By relying on a fastball, like Colon, he didn't have to throw many secondary pitches and expose himself to the risk of injury or overuse. Look Lowe's numbers up. He was a rare commodity in baseball. A guy that consistently made 30 or more starts per year for several years in a row. Not every one can do that. Not even all of the great ones can brag that they were able to string together something like that. Unlike Colon, though, Lowe wasn't trying to throw the ball past everyone. He just watched them beat his sinker into the ground all day.

Travis Sherman Yeah, I just checked out C.C.'s career numbers and he has been a hell of a lot more durable than I thought he was. He has pitched a ton of games! He's closing in on 3,000 ks. That should be a nice milestone to pass before he retires. I hope he gets it. He is a big dude and he doesn't look like it but he is an athlete. Probably not as much now as he was in his younger days but I think some schools were trying to recruit him out of high school to play basketball before he chose to go with baseball. In his prime I think Sabathia had better overall stuff that Colon, a deeper repertoire. I can't recall who the Tribe's pitching coach was back in the early 2000's, but I remember most of the guys on their staff threw some really high velocity, hard curveballs. Colon, C.C., Jaret Wright, Danys Baez. Colon threw his curve as fast as most guys threw their sliders. They probably were just throwing a slurve but I remember the announcers and even their scouting reports all referring to them as curveballs.

I miss big sexy in a Mets uniform. When he hit the HR a few years back I lost it.
Wish the Yankees signed him this year we could definitely use him
Bartolo Colon The DORIAN GRAY of Baseball....Lol

when i found out he's the active leader in wins i nearly lost it
LARGE ATTRACTIVE!!!
He had a 99mph fastball, now he rely on fastball movement
bartolos only half way done
Odor sure looks comfortable turning two. LoL....after *socking* Bautista in the jaw, I doubt he'll be seeing any aggressive slides by the runner. 😂
Screw any team that makes fun off Colon. Mets announcers provide much more humor and don’t offend baseballs lord
Colon is the Jaromir Jagr of baseball.

The difference is that Tom Brady's entire life revolves around having a perfect diet and exercise regimen. Bartolo eats a cheeseburger, farts a few times to reach his fighting weight and then strikes people out.
Good for him, wonder if he still talks to Noah?
H- His nickname is BIG SEXY That is hilarious
Wow the big bro of cc sabathia
How much fun must it be to watch a team that has Beltre, Colon, and Andrus on it?
The Ageless Wonder
Bartolo "el sexy" Colón
A contending team should have signed him and used him in the bullpen. I do not understand why they wouldn't, hes better than almost every relief pitcher the Astros have (and apparently the Dodgers as well, looking at their record), and has no emotion on the mound. Perfect closer, yet everyone signs him as a starter.
Ayyy
Where Is the Dominican?🇩🇴🇩🇴
Whoa he's a biggin.....
As a Mets fan, I miss Big Sexy. He was a better version of Tom Glavin and nothing compares to his first home run in San Diego back in 2016 off James Sheilds.
I guess I'm a Rangers fan now :/
Big sexy is a national treasure. I hope my Astros pick him up in the next offseason.
My favorite picture!! 😈

He never was the same after his Cy Young year. He could have been one of the best.
@mattray9904
6 жыл бұрын
He was close back in 2013. He could still throw 95-96 mph when he wanted to and if not for August when he missed a couple of weeks, he may have made a real run at another Cy Young. He probably wouldn't have gotten it because of lack of hype then and Biogenesis the year before, but he still went 18-6 that year with a 2.65 ERA as it is.
