The theft of the jewels was definitely like a Batman villain type thing, a gala where there are rich people and a super villain would place everyone under their control. Poison ivy could use her toxin on the crowd or mad hatter could control them and just take the jewels from the crowd. Or fear gas or laughing gas used there. Here they are charmed like snakes, like how poison ivy uses her toxin and the hatter uses Hypnosis
