When I was a kid I used to live in Barstow in the mid 70's...They used to have a race from Barstow to Vegas......I didnt know the environmentalists allow this any more. VERY COOL!

It’s hard to complain about bikes when areas in CA are just open dump sites now.
That was funny to hear the part about the radiator breaking off. We were all riding 2-stroke air-cooled Motors. But I was using blendzall and that motor didn't blow up. I also had some custom kernutt rear shocks that saved the day.
I raced a 85 250r 3wheeler in the 1984 B to V race . It was quite an experience. I finished 6th in my class out of over 70 riders . 4 waves of 300 riders each starting side by side for a 1 mile drag race to the 1st turn . I started in the 4th wave and by then 1/2 the trails were nothing but whoops . Damm even though I'm 57 the trail still calls . I just don't ride as fast as I used to . I guess you do get wiser with age . Much thanks for taking me back to when I had no fear except for a few animals lol . Ride hard ride smart .

Man I know what you're talkin about the drag race to the tires was the ultimate. You're right back then there is no fear other than the fact that you wanted to finish and not sit out in the desert for hours.
Ayy I live in Barstow😃Bout to get a bike can’t wait to ride 😁😁
Rad ride!!!
I raced this in 1972 as a 14 year old kid and finished 365 out of over 3,000 starters. I was riding a sponsored brand-new dt2 mx. I was so tired when I cross the finish line I hit some soft sand and I dumped it right there like 5 ft cross the finish line. I just couldn't hold on anymore. I still remember the start of the race watching those burning tires when they let the horn go and off we went.

@@StanleyKingChannel I think out of all the racing I did that was the most fun but also the most tiring. I raced a lot of the marathon's in San Jose and Lodi. We raced two hours or four hours with two riders. I used to think those were tough not even close to the Barstow to Vegas. Thanks again for posting a video. Also I was only 3 of 10 in our group to even finish. Many years later I was working for USA Today in San Bernadino and I actually ran into the guy that won that race, he actually worked in a different department. I think he was part of the group of The Desert Rats which was a bunch of professional desert racers in Southern California and they were good. Thanks again for posting. Great memories as a kid. I also received a medal and a t-shirtfor finishing the race. As a kid I wore that t-shirt until it had holes in it just to show everybody that I made it. That was a big deal back then if you finished that race let alone even placed in the top 100. The top Pro Rider in our group which actually happened to be one of the Jensen Brothers who's father owned the Suzuki shop in San Jose, finished I think somewhere in the top 50. He was also a Flat Tracker and not experienced in desert racing.

@@StanleyKingChannel the only thing that I ride now is a hopped up 150cc scooter that I call an urban assault scooter. I stopped flat track racing back in 2012 do the fact that I have PLS. It is a stable form of ALS but almost as serious. Go check out my Instagram at rockinlongdrives to check out my scooter. I think you'll get a good laugh out of it.

Do you have other videos that are about prep and what and how to pack for rides like this? Any links on trail bags, packs or gps navigation set ups as well. Thanks

Nice video. 2 questions. 1. Was any part of your track too narrow to get a Jeep through? 2. Was there any private property or permission you needed for travel?

Jeep would be tough in places, but I'm sure doable. No permission necessary.

Exactly! I explore a lot in the Mojave. I see so much destruction from illegal dirt biking: riding in designated wilderness areas, posted "keep out areas", etc. There has been so much land set aside for off-roading, but as usual, many people choose to respect the beauty of the desert, do not think of future generations' enjoyment. Sounds like from your comments, you are part of this group.

We went with a guy who raced it and he did it all off of memory. I’m sure somebody out there must have the maps. I’m not a map guy unfortunately.
This is exactly what I want to do. I'm looking for maps for this type of excursion. If you have any links please respond. Thanks.

Do you have the GPX file for this? Are you guys planning on doing this again anytime soon? Where did you stop for gas? We have 2.2 gallon tanks would that be enough between gas points or do we have to have pit points or chase trucks?

Raced the last real Barstow to Vegas race in 1973. It was 160 miles of hell with over 3000 riders. After that year the BLM ruined the race by making them follow existing roads.

For most of it yes but if you followed our exact trail, there was definitely be pieces where you would have to find a go around. I think if you look at Google earth and the different Matt programs, I’m sure you could put it all together.
