A fantastic classic forever. For me this wonderful song is THE blueprint for all "mini operas" or for the fusion of rock and classic. TMHO without "Eloise" there would never have been "Music" from John Miles and other such songs, and for example typical songs of ELO or Queen in the way we know them.

I WAS THERE! The 1993 Heineken Night of The Proms at Ahoy Rotterdam for Veronica TV Holland with Sting topping the bill. Gary Brooker also sang A Whiter Shade of Pale and Colin Blunstone sang She's Not There. The TV station used one of the only pair of remaining wide-arm Louma camera cranes in the world. It swept over the entire hall above the thousands present - originally used on the Al Pacino movie Revolution sweeping over an entire battlefield - the largest camera crane ever built hovered back and forth throughout. It was utterly epic, the orchestration was superb, with a huge organ on a suspended rolling metal railed-rig for the close of the show that floated over the entire venue, literally hundreds of feet above us all for a cathedralesque version of Bach's Organ Recital in D Minor as heard in the movie The Phantom of The Opera. The mono sound here does not do this justice. This remains as a stunning, unparalleled performance from Barry Ryan and is every bit as good as I recollect. All the beer was free and all the girls were smiling. So was I. Henry Scott-Irvine

I was wondering what year this was. It's a shame they only did one song each by the sounds of it. I went looking to see if perhaps the entire concert was on YT, but unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case. Some other (later) years are there, so I might have a look at those instead. I think I once saw a Golden Earring concert at the Ahoy when I was on holidays in Holland. The name of the place rings a bell anyway.

The melody is hauntingly mesmerizing.. Full of surprises .very few songs have this mix that is sooo masterfully composed .The many elements of musical strain introduced in this piece makes it soo intriguing . The change in tempo the change in voice compels one to listen to the end . Having said that the lyrics penetrates the soul leaving one in a very sad state.

We still love orchestral music, whether we want to or not. Freddie Mercury would have loved this. Imagine Queen doing a cover. Wow !

Just heard this on the radio and had me searching for the song. To see him sing this from 1966 up to 2018 and all the videos of him at different ages and still sounds like the original, brilliant.

I now recall that the conductor could be seen dancing in the crowd when this played years ago on TV, he was doing some kind of headbanging routine and really enjoying himself.

I love this song since I heard it back in 1969, when I was 10. This guy still has a great voice and his performance in this concert is simply incredible. Thanks Alberto for bringing back this memory of my early years!
