My daughter and I heard a barred owl calling out a few nights ago. We’re in south Louisiana and it was a warm night. Such a beautiful sound and gorgeous bird.

We have atleast 3 living in the trees behind our house. They make the weirdest squawking noise sometimes and it scared the crap out of me until I realized it was indeed the owls..

i just heard one outside my window last night and i’ve never lived in a heavily wooded area like this before so it caught me off guard. had i no idea what it was until now 😎 still scared of them

Barred Owls are so naturally curious they will go and investigate things that are in their territory. It isn’t harming the owl...

He doesn't seem too bothered by the light, but I definitely have one outside my window in the trees hooting all night. Sounds like the same call so it must be the male looking to party.

That's the call that they use in my part of the world. Whenever I hear it, I at first mistake it for a Great Horned, then I notice that the pitch and cadence are not quite right, and sure enough, it turns out to be a Barred. They're not quite as common as Great Horned where I am, but they're still reasonably plentiful.

Dont do this to an owl 🤦🏼♀️. Don’t you see he/she has babies! Leave him alone gosh. And don’t put light in his/her face. If you want to do this go in the morning and take pictures but not like that.
