Bei den Titeln ihrer Alben hat die Band ein Faible für Farben. Und auch musikalisch geht es bei den Progressive Metallern von Baroness kunterbunt und frei zu: Songstrukturen werden regelmäßig aufgebrochen und neu zusammengesetzt, Genres unkonventionell miteinander kombiniert.
Ein Konstante zieht sich auf jeden Fall durch die Karriere von Baroness. Was die Auswahl der Titel ihrer Alben angeht, hat die Progessive-Metal-Band ein Faible für Farben. „Red Album“, „Blue Record“, „Yellow & Green“ und „Purple“ heißen die Tonträger der Musiker aus Georgia. So abwechslungsreich Baroness bei der Farbpalette in Bezug auf ihre Tonträger unterwegs sind, so kunterbunt und frei gestalten sie auch seit eh und je ihren Sound.
Auf „Gold & Grey“, ihrem Album aus den Jahr 2019, brechen sie konsequent konventionelle Songstrukturen auf. Strophe-Refrain-Strophe ist eine Möglichkeit, aber keinesfalls ein Muss. Baroness kriegen es auch hin, auf ein minutenlanges Intro oder ein ebenso mächtiges Outro zu setzen - und zwischendurch den einen oder anderen emotionalen Haltepunkt zu setzen.
Auch bei ihrem Klangkosmos setzen Baroness auf Freidenkertum: Mit Progressive Metal als Basis haben sie auch ein Händchen für filigrane Momente und zarte Melodien - um hernach darauf ein dickes Metal-Brett zu zimmern. Man höre „Cold-Blooded Angel“, das sanft gesungene Duett zwischen Kreativ-Direktor John Dyer Baizley und Gitarristin Gina Gleason. Danach weiß man: Baroness können ihr Farbenspiel auch in dunkelbunt schön.

Baroness plays incredible live shows - but if you can catch them on a small venue headlining tour its almost life-changing lol
John and Gina are amazing together, and Seb and Nick are easily one of the best rhythm sections around right now. That bass tone is incredible. Super excited to see what they come out with next.

And as much I also love earlier incarnations of the band, Gina was an absolute breath of fresh air to the band, she is sooooo great!

Great band, John and Gina are a great pairing, Gina is a stellar guitarist and a top tier backing vocalist. Also shout out swollen and halo, that song is godly. Super underrated band that’s always deserved more attention.

John is a powerhouse of creativity and everyone is really specialized with their instruments. Been fortunate enough to catch them 3 times live, trying to make it 4 🤘
God I'm so excited they're playing so much old stuff, and John's vocals sound better here than I've heard live in a while. So good, love hearing him do the harsh vocals on the old tunes.

I love Baroness, saw them every chance I've had since '09. They have become such a tight and great live band and Gina has been a great addition, but i can't lie. I miss Pete. Seeing Pete and John performing the gnashing back in the hey-day was one of the greatest live musical experiences of my life.

Pete was underutilized. He's better off in Valkyrie. Baroness was always John's band and vision. Gina is a great addition and I'm curious to see what she has to contribute to the band's songwriting. New blood is always interesting. Just like Nick and Seb are the band's tightest sounding rhythm section ever.

Here's my take on not only this video but so many other live rock videos: would it KILL videographers to give the bass player a little love?! Lots of lovely shots of everybody except the guy/girl/N/A that holds it all together. I mean damn...Yes I'm a bass player. Oh by the way these guys sound incredible. I've missed them somehow. Too busy bitchin about no camera love I suppose.

I think the trick to getting camera time is to sing. Any performance video I ever saw for Rush or Mastodon feature Ged and Troy prominently. 😉

@@delorc.dacostajr1353 Qdo eles vieram em 2019, teve pouquíssima divulgação, mas o show foi surpreendente. Todo mundo cantando todas, os caras super carismáticos, principalmente a Gina. Saí tão empolgado que na mesma semana do show, fiz duas tatuagens dos caras hahah.

Been a fan since I saw Baroness open for Meshuggah in 2012. A bit of an odd pairing but a killer show nonetheless.
