She's amazing but the second part of your statement is just a fib. Gold & Grey is distinctly worse than Purple and this is from a fan from way back in the pre-Red days.

Gina is amazing I agree but Pete was a powerhouse. It's music, there is no better or worse, only an evolution of a band's sound. I've loved this band since I first heard them, through all their different iterations and they always produce brilliant music.

Gina has long hair and John is bald. John has a long beard and Gina doesn't. It's all very complimentary.

After last week's show I thought, I don't need more pedals. After this week's show, I need more pedals.

Randomly 'discovering' Gina on Premier Guitar (playing Dimebag) a few days ago led me down the rabbit hole and into the world of Baroness. What a wonderful discovery. People that lament the state of music aren't looking hard enough or aren't open enough to be enlightened. This band is the definition of artist...true to their vision. Gina is so awesome! Very very good things going on here!

Literally saw Baroness last night and thought to myself they should really be featured on this show. Little did I know this was ready to be uploaded the next day! This is amazing, I'm enjoying every second of it.

How cool were these two musicians?!! Very easy going and they seemed to genuinely love what they do and the sounds and pedals they use. It was all about music!!

This is amazing! Have to admit- I had never heard of this band. Spent the last couple hours watching footage of their live shows. Nutty! I love how- as Dan marvels at- they create a very heavy aggressive sound with out the bone crushing distortion of say a Mesa Dual Rec. Their sound is heavy as a result of chordal harmony and play style. This band is an amazing example of the cross over that is happening now between post rock ambience, playing technique, and chordal complexity with indie rock and metal. This band is like Mogwai cross bred with Russian Circles - but with say Black Sabbath vocals. Simply amazing. As a side note- Gina's hybrid picking technique with her aggressive arpeggiated style is killer- she simply slays- As a bonus, these guys really know how to use ambient/ atmospheric pedals in a modern context to range from end of days, apocalyptic sound scapes to subtle atmosphere that gives their intricate unison solo interplays that extra something. Thanks TPS for introducing us to this great band!

pedal gazer do yourself a favor and listen to the Red album-it’s a great, great album. It’s a voyage. So good. And then (if you haven’t yet) check the latest (Gold & Grey) that Gina is on. Also very good. They’re both Baroness, but they’re great for different reasons.

I didn't want this episode to end. Sooo inspiring to hear new artists that cover so much melodic landscapes. Gina's Gain structure was not fully explained but it was surely a trip to hear both players complimenting their sounds brilliantly. Massive thank u to TPS for being such a great force of nature. Live long and prosper.

One of the most interesting episodes of TPS yet. Showing the guitar as "textures" rather than a series of chords, and how 2 people can play together and the outcome is much more than the sum of the parts.

I love TPS, I love Baroness, I love this episode. Thanks everybody. This is the very best of the whole youtube.

Baroness... on That Pedal Show... I nearly fainted. Combining two of my favorite, seemingly disparate but actually completely related and relevant, things. I've been a Baroness fan for years. I've been a TPS fan for years. Never in my wildest... This is the FUTURE. Thank you! I've been trying to buy a Philly Fuzz for years. THAT BARONESS SOUND! But it's a pretty exclusive club. I know it's a small company, seemingly always out of stock; I hope someday the sun will shine in my direction.

Yeah, he does all their album covers. He has done Skeleton Witch, Kvelertak, and Black Tusk too. I think he did some stuff for Metallica, but I can't remember what that's all about.

Yeah it is ! I bought the record for gold and Grey and went to the record store where they did the acoustic set and got the signed artwork. His artwork for red/blue/yellow and green/purple and gold and grey was all awesome! It’s cool having the gold and grey record just for the large size art!

1:21 and I'm crying already. My favorite band on my favorite show.

Such amazing tones! I’m not a high gain, heavy guitar, “metal” guy by any stretch, but Baroness is definitely going on the playlist!! Incredible! Thanks Mic and Dan for finding the most inspiring players to feature.

These 2 were a breathe of fresh air, thanks for having them on and letting them explain everything so well while demoing it

I remember listening to Blue album when my older son was a baby. I remember sitting on the balcony with him in my lap, trying to get him to sleep and listening to the record on earphones. Since then Baroness has been my favourite band. I also love that your show welcomes players from all musical spectrums. (I’ve watched all episodes.) I’m a metalhead at heart but as a player I gravitate more toward a bluesier style. It goes to show that pedals make you more good in all genres. 😃

Understood nearly nothing, but felt almost everything - really thanks for this experience!

This is why I play music. To meet people like these guys and to get to make something together. Awesome people. Thoughtful, insightful, honest, direct and interesting. I've meet so many people like this in music. They are wonderful.

Gina is like the “metal” Mary Spender.

Never listened to Baroness before this video but I’m already a huge fan

Baroness are one of the most interesting band in the contemporary "alternative/post metal" scene to me. I've seen them live recently and they're really a pleasure to see and hear. Lots of inspiring ideas and tones. It's very cool to see Gina and John on the show, thanks guys :)

My new favorite episode of all time.

Gina’s guitar sound is so good. I think it’s her technique/skill shining through really, but man, super pleasing to hear.

A real treat discovering something new. And Gina’s dry tone through that Westwood was just lovely.

Outstanding! Excellent guests and Gina has made such a great impact on Baroness. They were already a excellent band and now they're even better.

My favorite band and my favorite episode of this show! Amazing.

So Baroness is like the Ultimately Extemporaneous Wet/Dry rig, John and Gina will have to decide which is which. I really like the communication, connectedness and obvious joy in their sharing. Dan, good job staying on point - I could see you being transported as you vibrated, but you managed to stay relatively grounded (at least, relatively grounded for you!). Thanks for the excellent show - I'm off to listen to Baroness for the first glorious time!

TPS made me going to see a Baroness Show in my hometown tonight. I' d have missed that without you. Thank You.

Never heard of these two before but they seem like awesome people and are amazing players. Loved this different type of player coming in. Oh and white tele mint guard is always the greatest combo ever. Same with strat, John get that mint guard and join the greatest color combo ever. Great episode guys.

That Pedal Show+Baroness=52 minutes of jaw dropping brilliance.. It's my favorite pedal people talking about my favorite pedal noises.. ***Uh.... Lemme fill up the coffee cup... I'm gonna be late again....

Holy hell YES!!! I love me some Baroness. Happily surprised this AM 👏👏👏.

Just wonderful, been a fan of Baroness since the release of Blue, their harmonies remind me of Thin Lizzy but in a heavier context. Now get an episode with Kurt Ballou on creative guitar tones in heavy music - with the amount of gear geekery between him and you guys the episode could/should be several hours long.

For me Baroness are on one side of a very fine line and Steven Wilson is too far on the other. A lot of the Baroness fanbase also comes from genres that are polar opposites of the Prog ethos. It wouldn't go down well.

@@DoglessEndeavor you should check out the stuff he's worked on, outside of his solo work. For example how he worked on King Crimson. I think what they share is a vision and appreciation for sound and sonic architecture. I understand what you are saying though. I appreciate both

More heavy bands please! Kurt from Converge would be fascinating (he gets amazing heavy tones from vintage amps and odd pedals. Matt Pike would be good too...

@@kbkman7742God, I'd kill to have Mike on this show. The Quantum Mystic is probably the best distortion I've ever played. Getting Kurt on would be awesome as well. Omar would be a really interesting episode but I almost feel like with the size of the boards he tends to use it'd be such a long video or series of videos that it'd never happen or would end up being too short and glossing over a lot of interesting stuff.

@@zucchinisurprise6347 yeah dude buying a quantum mystic changed the way I use drive pedals. It's all about the volume and eq. Very versatile pedal, it can just about do everything from atma tones to some vintage dirt

Love, love, loved this!!!! I just discovered this band a few months ago and they have quickly become a favorite of mine. They just killed it live which is how I found them. I am super impressed with Gina, she's such a fantastic musician, beautiful and humble and the chemistry between her and John is so unique.

Great respect between these two amazing musicians. I could watch this happily for hours and hours

The layering and interaction between the two guitars are mind boggling. Notes moving everywhere and multi-directional. Amazing stuff.

Watching John and Gina play together is just pure joy, their chemistry is breathe taking. Hopefully this is just the first of many looks at how they build texture and atmosphere with their boards.

I absolutely love Baroness. Gina is definitely an asset. I love their guitar tone and all the awesome progressions they use. They are not my favorite band but they are up there. I have never had a Tele or even played a Fender Tele. I have a Schecter Hellraiser Hybrid PT which is shaped like a Tele but has EMGs. Now I want a real Tele so bad. I love stories these 2 tell too. Epic band for real. The amps facing the middle of the room and the disco ball. They are both so passionate about music and the chemistry they have is absolute harmonious perfection. This is the best That Pedal Show ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes I come here and listen to Gina's 'dry sound' when I'm having a bad day. It's one of the most beautiful sounds I've ever heard.

Gina and John complement each other, sonically speaking, so well. Always such a pleasure to hear them play together. I agree that Gina has added so much to this band. This is a band that clearly benefited from a woman’s touch!

I loved what Pete brought to the band. If anyone could replace him, it's Gina. She just adds enough of the essence of Baroness and brings a whole new dimension for John to create with.

I actually don't care for the "coming up" segment you guys have started the last two shows with, it feels like it's spoiling the element of surprise a bit; like a trailer for a comedy which makes me laugh less at the film, because I've already seen the best jokes. I want my TPS Tangent Adventures to be as unexpected as possible!

Like many others I'm sure I was properly introduced to these guys by the recent rig rundown. Loving what I've heard so far ! And the two of them come off like really cool people. Can't wait to get stuck into this episode !

As always, the show was fascinating and awesome. I've liked Baroness for many years but never looked into their rigs. Some monstrous playing to match those monster boards lol... Thanks so much!

This episode is a great insight into band dynamic and working with more than one guitar in a band. Coming from a band that had three guitars and that strived to split harmony, tone and range between the three of us, this show was amazing!

Absolutely loving the new format for the videos with the tunes chucked in between.

Great episode Baroness and this show have simultaneously reignited my gearheadedness. Loved it.
