For the international audience, a translation of the Dutch lyrics at 6:23, as well as some context. Original Dutch version: 1. U was gewaarschuwd... 2. Ongehoorzame! 3. Wij Witte Wieven waken over het goud! 4. En saboteren... 5. Uw afdaling! 6. Hoogmoed komt voor den val! English translation: 1. You were warned... 2. Insubordinate! 3. Us Witte Wieven* watch over the gold! 4. And sabotage... 5. Your descent! 6. Arrogance comes before the fall! Additional context: the 'Witte Wieven' are spirits from Dutch mythology. It dates to the 7th century and was known in the Netherlands, Belgium and northern France (French: 'Dames Blanches'). Though it literally translates to 'white women', a more proper translation that takes the contemporary language into account is 'witty women'. Sources differ on whether the association with the white colour is a translation error or some symbolic reflection of wisdom. It was believed that the spirits of these wise women remained on Earth to either help or hinder those that encountered them. Wisps of fog were believed to be a manifestation of the Witte Wieven - which is why wisps or banks of fog are also called 'witte wieven' in the Northern and Eastern Netherlands. They are commonly associated with witchcraft and ghosts, and they share similarities with the Irish Sídhe and the Celtic-Irish Banshees. Some sources state that the Witte Wieven were the spirits of respected, wise women; others state that the WItte Wieven were the lost souls of witches or other 'wicked' women. Some stories from the Dutch province of Overijssel portray Witte Wieven as fairies that tempt people into following them into the forest, whereupon the person is never seen again. I was not able to find any direct link between the Witte Wieven and the practice of mining; that seems to have been a story choice on the part of the Efteling. A bit of possibly important context here is that the Witte Wieven, like the Banshee, could also be seen as a sign of imminent doom. This could have partly inspired their inclusion in the attraction. Another reason could be their common association with fog and mist. Normally the bottom of the attraction's drop is covered with a layer of fog, to make it hard to discern the bottom. People standing by the drop may hear the singing of the Witte Wieven emanating from the depths - which fits thematically due to the fog.

This is amazing and I love it. I could figure the lyrics were something cool, mythical and badass on these fascinating white ladies' side - but this is even cooler than I expected =)

Thank you for taking the time to explain ! When you say Dame Blanche, from what I know, the story of La Dame Blanche in France is not the same. It is a woman in a white wedding dress that wanders alone the night and who kills anyone having the guts to find her. I don't know if we are talking about the same story, but the name remains the same :) It's been a while since I last heard of this legend ! It was pretty famous to scare young children around 10 y.o. This used to be THE scary story back in my elementary school days 😅
