I am a new chicken mama and have 3, 13 week old Barnevelder hens. They are super sweet and do love their treats. They have 3 Brown Leghorn chicks and 3 Rhode Island Blue chickens as coop mates. I thought I bought 9 hens but to my suprise, one of my Rhode Island Blues is now a Rooster and has the funniest cock-a-doodle-doo I have ever heard. I will be re-homing him as I can not keep a rooster in my neighborhood. Thanks for the information on the Barnevelders 🐔

I've had these chickens for years and think they are the most beautiful, have a great temperament, lay plenty of eggs for the family, and are decent meat birds when given time to grow out.

They are called chooks or hens not chickens. A chicken is a young bird that has just hatched for a few weeks

Not all countries. We don't use the word, "chooks", in the US, altho it's cute.

Yea I was going to ask where he was from. A chicken is a chick, pullet or full grown chicken to my knowledge.

@@MsCGarnica Ive never heard of this. A chicken is a general term for the species. A chick is a baby. A pullet is a juvenile female and a cockerel is a juvenile male.
