Barn Find CB750 FIRST RIDE!!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Barn Find CB750 FIRST RIDE!! The CB750 revival series continues with a big moment is going for the first ride on this long neglected bike! In previous episodes I worked to get the bike running and then rebuilt the necessary systems to make it road worthy. In this video I rebuild the petcock, install the headlight, put in a battery, and kick it off for full system operation!
All in all the first ride went beyond fantastic with some short trips around the house, around town, and then to bike night where I got caught in the rain. Soon I'll bring the bike back in the shop to do a compression check before and after a valve adjustment as well as a carb sync and tune. That will have the bike running even better! Stay tuned for those videos!

    My little brother abandoned his ‘83 CB 1100 F at my house 5 years ago. He said it does t run anymore, if you can fix it, you can have it… so, I did. Ended up leaving it at my cousins for a couple years because I moved out of state, got it back, and it’s been sitting outside In The weather another couple years… I just listed it on offer up for $500.00 as a parts bike, it after watching your revival series on this 750, and knowing the history of my bike, I’m pulling it off the web, and I’m bringing her back to life. Love the sound of these bikes!!! Great vids man! Thanks for the inspiration!!!

He asked if I had a helmet while giving a quick throttle/clutch tutorial… he gave me his old one. Rode every day for over two years until a car pulled out in front of me. After all those years finally went out and bought a new shiny braap braap! Wish I still owned the cb750.

I have no front brakes since I have to source some so I rode in my ability with that in mind, but got into 3rd gear and felt pretty fancy. guy i work with owned a drag racer cb750 with the fastest national time in his day but it was modified. he kept saying (our bike performed in the 9s - whatever that means) he says "that's a fast bike!" also i drove my car from North Carolina to Florida with no plates at all a couple years ago. Trooper stopped me and let me go.

    Have tracked down a very dusty and partially disassembled SOHC in my town that the owner is willing to part with for a Swan Song. I know little of this bikes history, other than it hasn't been running in a very long-time, and had a few issues before being parked so long ago. Figure it will be a rather arduous task getting her even close to start, let alone idle or run for very long, but here's to Dreaming, Hoping and Wishing once I get her home safely.

    Look, great job on the bike, and after you’ve had a real chance to bring back to the level you want! 👍 I’ll be watching to see what the next installment will be. On a side note, you run up & down your street without a helmet, no gloves, and what looked like low sneakers, I’ll be the first to say it… “Dork!” You are really talented, you’ve got a great channel, your hands and head are your main operating gear, please, don’t tempt fate by not wearing proper safety gear at all times! Accidents are just that, not planned. You’ve got to be pro active to protect yourself, cause ain’t nobody else going to do it. You’re young now, but those injures you get when young, they don’t get better with age. Just think about it, ok? Great bike. Is that a 75? The idle adjuster screw should be on the right side of the carb rack if the petcock is on the left side of the tank. I know different years switched the petcock to different sides of the tank. (Pre 75 had petcock on right right.) I bought an extra set of carbs for my 75 CB750 and didn't realize the idle control knob was on the left side of the carbs, which made it really hard to get to with the petcock being on that same side. Some of the 750 carbs are set u so you can move that idle switch to either side of the rack...some only have one option.

  • @BrickHouseBuilds

    Excellent video, glad to see you get this ole girl running & riding! Now, if only you had an old period correct Kerker header to use on that bike, it'd really set it off. You can't hardly break those SOHC Honda fours, they are built stout! Yes, a good running carb synch will smooth it right out. Looks like a little blue smoke out of the left hand muffler, rings may need to reseal themselves if it was seized before from sitting. I can't remember how many of these bikes I worked on when I worked at a Honda dealership in 1980-81, they always ran even if they looked kind of ratty and unkempt. I did up an 836cc kitted CB750 SOHC engine for a close friend's bike, ported the head and Vance/Hines did the valve job on it, used early carbs on it and jetted accordingly and it would darn near keep up with my then-stock CBX! He still has the bike to this day. We did do a frame mod to allow top end disassembly without pulling the whole engine out of the frame. Thanks for a great video, man! Enjoy this bike!

    Many thanks Mark! While I don't have a Kerker I DO HAVE a used perfectly patinad' 4 into 1 that will go on the bike after I get some more time to play with it. Loved the video, here in Sydney Australia, just wanting to know if after a period of time riding the bike freshened up the valve seals enough to reduce the smokey left cylinders? From experience it's always a worry when buying and starting a bike that hasn't run for an extended period of time the smoke dissipates in time! I have a VF1000F at the same stage!

    Thank ya! So definitely check out the first start video. TOOOOOONNNNS of smoke there and it gets less and less with every mile. You noticed the most smoke in this one under heavy throttle so still has some blow by and other potential seal issues but it is very much improving. Since there was corrosion on the valve sealing surfaces on the ones that were open for so long I am just running it to reseat before doing a valve adjustment. I think it will always have a touch of smoke without a rebuild but thats ok.

I'm super tempted, the only thing is the module that raises and lowers the headlight is dead and they are very hard to find, the rest of the bike is isn't bad at all, and you don't see them every day.

    Well done. Jealous. A couple notes. 1. Clutch rattle is normal. Mine did that from brand new. Only happens at idle, and is minimized if carbs are synced, but always there. Reason is that it has a primary chain driving the clutch basket from the crank. 2. Syncing the carbs, yes, but is an overhyped activity. Smooths idle but I never found it made a difference while riding. 3. Rough running might mean the carbs need more work; not just syncing issue. 4. Blow-by: There should be a fat rubber tube comes off the nipple on that triangular cast compartment at top centre of engine and runs down to where the carb drain tubes also go below the battery. There's a smaller fitting just at the top very back of the engine too. You will have a lot of blow-by seeing how engine was seized with rusty cylinder walls. 5. I suspect your tach and speedo are reading high. This is because they are not perfectly weather sealed and eventually condensation inside rusts and weakens the needles' return springs. 6. Lastly, are those tires the bike came with? Old tires on wet roads... that put me down a number of times when I was a student and too poor to buy new tires.

  • @BrickHouseBuilds

    @BrickHouseBuilds

    Thanks Rick. Yes I said most not all rattle so I am well aware there. I also note tuning the carbs so understand this is on its absolute base setup with no tweaks outside of the idle screw. Just getting it worn back in so to speak before I make further adjustments as those would be thrown off if I did them right away. On the oil tank I just need to reconfirm what its doing as I believe I also had it a small bit overfilled. Tires and many other items have been replaced or rebuilt and you can see all of that in previous videos of the bike if you wish.

    I saw the whole sequence of this CB750 up to here; because everything you did you did with professionalism and it's nice to see when things are done right, and when you first started the motor it rattled, it seemed totally out of tune, and it reminded me of what it took to get it to turn because It was nailed down by the years of inactivity, the abandonment and also the lack of maintenance I suppose; So I said to myself: and of course the engine is not in good condition... And then you are about to carry out the test on the road and the engine no longer made those noises from the first time?! How did you achieve it?

    So when I did an initial inspection I could also see some light surface rust on the valve seats and of course knew that the cylinder was going to be filled with junk. As you see the bike smoking it is actually cleaning itself up and burning out all of the old junk. As it gets clean it starts to run smoother, increase compression, and clean off the valve seats. The carbs were also not synchronized. I left all of it at a base tune to just get it running as I know it would be rough but just needed time.
