I used to do the same thing back in the seventies and eighties with old Yamaha 2 strokes bikes.

I absolutely hate these hundreds of "will it run" videos on YT where guys are brutally tearing out cars or bikes out of woods, hooking on a battery on these poor engines and without any precaution just let them turn and run and break everything. For some of those older channels, you can see the cars left to rot again in the background years after.

I’ve been waiting for this day ever since you discovered the beast lying on its side. You went about freeing the motor very carefully and methodically. Patience and experience are definitely two virtues needed when tackling this type of job. I’m happy to see this project will continue to completion. Ciao and namaste.

Really enjoying your videos so thanks for putting them out for us all. Just an observation but I saw one of these bikes last year and the thing that stood out for me was listening to the tickover. The bike had 6 into 6 pipes and standing behind it listening the the pop of each cylinder from the individual tailpipes was fabulous. Thanks again for the videos I've seen so far as I have a lot of catching up to do.

A bunch of my favorite videos dropped today but this one is the gem, and the project I’m most looking forward to. And the direction you want to go with it is bellissimo👏 Of course I’d love to see a full teardown, but whatever you do with it will be great.

I love the way he uses the blowtorch because heat solves so many tight mechanical issues!

Thank you for posting your video, I'm currently working on my 1980 Benelli 900 Sei Mark 2 project, I've installed a bank of six Dell 'Orto 22mm carbs to replace the stock three 24mm units. I also have a modified 750 Sei Silentium six-into-six exhaust system, the 900 has a more vertical cylinder block than the 750, so to avoid the silencers hanging too low the header pipes had to be cut and rewelded at a different angle so that the silencers sit higher up. I also have Tomaselli clip-on bars, a Tomaselli quick action throttle and Paulo Tarozzi rear set foot controls. I have installed an oil cooler from a 1982 Honda CB650SC, Benelli sixes run very hot so an oil cooler is a sensible addition. I'm in no rush to complete the project, I just work on it when I feel the urge, the Benelli last ran in 2010. Benelli only built 1878 of the 900 Sei in a production run from 1979 until 1989, so they weren't mass produced, nothing else sounds like a Benelli Sei.

@@BrickHouseBuilds Thanks for your reply, the CB650SC cooler, hoses and take off casting all fit directly onto the Benelli sixes. I mounted the cooler where the stock horns were, I relocated the horns either side on the rear engine mounting plates which on my machine are now stainless steel as are the front engine mounting plates. I'm looking forward to your future 750 Sei videos.

I had one in 1979. Bought it new. Problems with not running on all cylinders were solved after placing an electronic system. It is a very nice bike. Super sound from intake and six exhausts.

The Benelli 750 design was based on the Honda 500 Four. So I guess it’s a bit less surprising that it would have JIS screws. You might find other similarities to Honda products (ie: tappet covers!). Looking forward to seeing what you do with this.

Your spot on dan. Cb650 four is the basis of the engine. Stock honda 550 pistons and rings are a direct fit. I rebuilt on of these years ago. Wish I still had if now.

To be fair, there was no real need for Benelli to use JIS screws, because there must be plenty of European companies producing the more compatible alternatives. And it’s likely that the JIS screws cost more than them. Plus the choice of screw heads after all have no bearing on the overall engine or bike design. However, JIS heads ARE superior to many of the alternatives, except perhaps Allen/Hex Sockets. And we know that Benelli was in full Picasso mode with this one: Stealing from the best!! I remember when I saw my first 750 Sei at the opening day of a new boutique style dealership in the UK Midlands. They were allowing people to test ride most of the Benelli range - except the Sei. As the screaming two stroke triples went off in a cloud of smoke, the 750 just sat there majestically basking in the admiring gazes of every one of us who knew we couldn’t afford it. I’m guessing that was 1977, but the memory is getting foggy. The place was called Davick Motique! Two guys called Dave and Erick with more money than business sense. The enterprise sadly didn’t last long. I did buy my Belstaff wax cotton jacket from them, but it was always a bit odd due to being on display in bright sunlight through the plate glass showroom windows. It’s odd how we store our recollections isn’t it?

Indeed. If it was stock, it would be a crime, a sin even, especially given the rarity of them. I actively dislike most of the modern interpretations of the cafe racer: Mercilessly butchered rear ends; LED strips sewn into BROWN leather seat covers; BIG FAT knobbly front tyres (??WTF??), guaranteeing they will never race anything other than the coffee shop poser’s ego; and the ludicrous Bermuda Triangle of lost opportunities behind the carbs - where imagination goes to cry!!! I swear if I ever meet the lunatic that started such a ridiculous trend (copied by EVERYONE devoid of an original idea or imagination), I may need a Valium to avoid doing serious harm. But this bike has already had a life on the track, so that’s part of its story already. So the same rules obviously don’t apply. My book won’t be available on Amazon. 🧐😎😜👀 Peace

Your find, your time, your knowledge, and your money. If someone doesn't like that they can go find one and do it themselves. I might not agree with your direction but I can learn from your method. Thanks for sharing. Your direction looks good on this one.

Nice! I used a similar product as JB Weld on a 6x6 Polaris. A Wurth product. It was for a company that had this old ATV as a backup machine, and they didn’t want to spend $1800 plus labour in a new gear case. I've never heard from them again, so I presume it worked out just fine. I'm looking forward to the next one. Thanks for the upload! 😊👍

Been binge watching your videos over the weekend. In my working life, I used to repair fire trucks, and the foam compound they used was very corrosive resulting in gate valves and pump lobes seizing up. We found that brake fluid has great penetrating qualities. We would allow it to soak overnight and the following morning see where it had seeped through, which was the previous day an immovable component. Maybe try it next time you have a seized component. Videos are great. Keep up the good work.

Some helpful advice for you man. If you have a stuck spark plug (or bolt) turn it a little, spray lube on it, then turn it the opposite way until it's tight. Turn it back again and try to go a little farther. Then spray lube on it and turn it back again until it's tight. Keep working it back and forth like that, trying to move it a little further each time. That will reduce the chances of damaging the threads, especially in aluminum heads or engine parts. Good luck with the build. Should be a cool bike when your done!

Im definitely excited about it

From the bore scope videos, to me, it appears like the cylinders have been honed but not run before it was layed? up. The hone marks appear to be “over” the bore wear indications. I would also suggest that you remove all the valve caps and using a suitable lever see if there are any valves stuck, it sounds like there is one stuck down and hitting a piston when you were spinning over with the rear wheel. Its unknown if it had a rebuild at some point but yes the crosshatching looks good. It could be a low mile bike for all I know too. Valves aren't hitting as you wouldn't be able to rotate the engine. I was fighting stiction as it was freeing up. Its good now

@@BrickHouseBuilds it’s a little hard watching the video rather than being there in person. In the late 80’s I had an apprentice who was doing a first service on a gs Suzuki 2 valve twin and managed to somehow after removing the rocker cover take the tensioner off and turned the rear wheel backwards to bring the piston to tdc, in the process skipped the cam chain over several teeth and bent the valves and cracked the guides and he did not notice until he started it up and really bent and broke things. Worst bit I was right next to him working on a gsxr1100 and did not notice or twig to his mistakes, and question when he said he needed to use extra thick shims for the valves, till it was to late. Glad it is all going to well and it should actually be an excellent example of the Sei when up and running. Take care.

Your doing good keep it up.

I rebuilt my dads 79 benelli 900 Sei a few years back. Just a heads up. When you spun the wheel I noticed the bolt treaded in the crank on the ignition timing side was wobbling. Probably just cross treaded. Hopefully it’s not the crank since the bike did fall over on that side. Awesome work and can’t wait to see the finished result.

@@BrickHouseBuilds Could be the small bolt is twisted, the mechanical timing advance is under there usually. A good thing to check in case it's seized up.
