Bargain Swedish M40 / M44 mess kit review

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hi guys
Today I'm looking at another of my bargain #military surplus #mess #kit
The Swedish M40 (stainless steel) or M44 (aluminium) mess kit consists of five parts;
•windshield
•main pot with wire bail for hanging over a fire
•pot lid that can also be used as a separate pan with D rings to extend the handle
•fuel bottle
•alcohol trangia burner
I have the aluminium M44 total weight is 914g so whilst heavy by modern standards it's extremely robust and versatile, the M40 is even heavier as that is made from steel
I'd love to hear what you guys thought so please leave a comment or a thumbs up and if you liked and maybe you'd consider subscribing

    Great review, really nice mess kit you have, good condition. I guess that the Swedish word you tried to pronounce is “enmanskök” it’s the Swedish word for one man stove or directly translated one man kitchen. Did you pronounced it correct? I’m sorry to have to say no, but good enough for me to figure out what word you tried to pronounce. Don’t be sad I think that’s a very hard word to pronounce for English speaking people. You don’t have the letter ö. The letter ö sounds a little like the i in bird or the u in fur and the k before the ö sounds a little like “sh” in fish. Maybe if you try to read it like “enmans shiuk” but without a pause between the two word. I don’t know if it makes any sense. As you see not the easiest word to pronounce 🙂

    Thank you for the kind words particularly regarding my awful attempt at pronouncing enmanskök 🤣 Yes that was the word I was aiming for but clearly I had the incorrect meaning for it so thank you for the clarification also 👍 It's an awesome campfire cook system, thank you for watching it's very much appreciated Hope you have a great weekend, all the best Roo

    Yes, I've not researched the number stamp but it is aluminium so probably a late production run The steel ones are very rare but its still a great system Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment buddy 👍 All the best Roo

    I hear commenting helps the channel, I hope so! M40 is stainless steel, production switched to Aluminium in 1944 for cost although I think they claimed purely for better heat transfer to water/food. Great vid on a great bit of kit

    @@PreparedCamping haha one other thing i remember was using the frying pan sat into the stove when we went camping, i didnt realise the handle would get red hot and i burned my fingers, i then tried to use a pair of socks as oven mitts to grab the handle which just melted to the handle and then knocked over the burner setting the grass on fire as well!. oh that was an entertaining evening after we just cycled 100 miles as well. ahh well live and learn.

    I bought 10 of these full kits unissued in excellent condition for less than $80 USD 10 years ago. For another $20 USD I added a camping utensil set a pot lifter and a stainless steel cup for each and they all fit inside large pot. The pot lifter is handy for moving heat shroud stand after cooking and large pot if wire handle is accidentally left under heat.

    It's a very well designed cook set; there are no obvious capacity marks but the tops of the rivets for the strap loop on the big pot give you 500ml and 1 litre and if you fill the smaller section of the lid you get 250ml. They put a lot of thought into the design. ATB@@PreparedCamping
