They work just fine in Vegas. I wouldn't expect much from Cambodian maintenance, if there's any. Neighbour's nephew ran into a few of these in use in Iraq, too.

It's because of the drum. The drums were well known for causing jams. Try to find an old straight box mag and it should clear up.

You guys need to have someone from the US bring some Privi Partizan 7.62x25 ammo. That stuff is great and it's new manufacture.

That ammo may be polish helmet proofing ammunition because of the green tip. If so it's not really meant for this. That could be the source of the problems. So normal ball ammo and some box magazines would probably cure the issues.

I don't know what the hell you were doing wrong here but the PPSh is a really reliable gun, it was loved so much in combat that even the Nazis were issuing these to front line troops under the name the MP717(r).

Drum mags can have spring problems when they get old. Also, in service the drum mags were serial #'d to the gun.

According to forgotten weapons, depending on the gun in needs a certain mag. You need to match the gun and the magazine. Plus I wouldn’t trust any maintenance is being done to it. My dads friend in the states has one, i shot it and it ran beautifully.

The drum mags were usually dumped for just this reason and normal "banana" mags were used instead. The drum mags were/are usually displayed in propaganda and media only for their scary looks.

The Thompson also had a similar deal, most people envision the classic prohibition mafia using these things with drum mags, but pretty much everyone with ppsh and thompsons both used Straight or banana mags due to the unreliable drum mags at the time that had a common issue for jamming or misfeeding. Otherwise they're both amazing guns in their own way.

I have a friend in Budapest who actually found a mummified dead cat in their old house's attic, and a PPSh bullet in it. Obviously some Russian soldier killed it in 1944 or 1945.

50 round drums? I don't know of any, typically they're 71 rounders, but perhaps loaded down to 50 to help it cycle. One issue might be a non-matching mag. Those PPSHs had mags with machined feed lips that were single-feed as apposed to double feed which I believe is considered to be not as reliable as double-feed, and often these drums or even the 35 round stick mags were made shoddily. To my knowledge, the magazines aren't generally seen as interchangeable. The later PPS-43 had nice, cheap, and simple mags that were pretty much 100% stamped steel, all made uniformly, and with double feed (or whatever the term is), I think they're considered to be more reliable mags, but cannot be used in the PPSh. If memory serves, they made something like 6,000,000 of those little beasties, even continued to be made while the PPS-42 and PPS-43 were coming about which were lighter and cheaper. I don't think you make 6,000,000 of something, not even the Russians, unless it works. With a matching drum or stick mag, with high velocity ammo, I don't think as many issues would be found. Speaking of velocity, to my knowledge, 2 types of 7.62x25 were produced. Slightly lighter stuff for the pistols, and then full power stuff for the SMGs. Not 100% sure if they were necessarily interchangeable, but it's possible that you've got both a non-matching mag, and pistol-grade 7.62x25. Not a fun combination.

A 70 year old gun thats been in a hot humid environment for at least the last 40 and which has been in continual service the whole time... Contrary to popular belief even Russian guns need to be serviced and maintained. I bet at the very least it needs a new recoil spring. Probably new springs for the mags as well.

PPSH was created as an answer to the German MP-38. It had a longer trunk, which gives a higher leveling and flatness. More capacious store. The trunk can not be overheated from prolonged shooting. A large convenient butt, allowed to shoot as from a long rifle. Today, weapons manufactured 70 years ago, are sold as a hunting carbine (but it is redone in a semi-auto). The cartridges are new, everything works well.
