Cruyff was a revolutionary for Barça . He arrived in Catalonia in the 70s as a player and won the league . He also led Barcelona to their first UCL in the 90s as a manager. The Catalan faithful felt Cruyff had done more for them in one year than any other politician before. Also the tiki taka we enjoy from Barcelona is also due to Cruyff. A true legend . RIP Johan ....

You might like it as a foreigner, but here in Spain it's a matter to be taken very seriously. I've observed many non-spanish people defend this movement, but they don't understand the magnitude of this. Cataluña has never been an independent country, you can look it up in Spanish History, although it is true they have their own language and similar traditions. Nevertheless, our 1978 Consitution, which was signed after Franco's death and was agreed by all citizens, clearly states that no territory in our country can part away from Spain, as the land is common property to all of us. During the last 25 years of the 20th century, a group inside the Basque Country killed more than a thousand people, including Basques, to proclaim their independence. The truth is that an equal part of Basques/Catalonian feel Spanish, as portrayed in the ilegal referendum which was held, and these people have been frowned upon constantly and discriminated for feeling Spanish. All in all, these independence (and communist, but that's another story, although there are parties inside our government who have declared their only ambition is to bring Spain down) movements are tearing our country, like it happenned 80 years ago during our Civil War. It's actually sad that something so highly respected as football in our country gets mixed up with politics. I really hope people from outside our country stop regarding this as a beautiful history lesson, it's actually devastating.

Ddv Sgd R10 in his prime for me was better and influential for Barca.. Hell, he was an inspiration for all fans not only barca fans.. The main reason I became a Barca fan was because of him.. That was a very good video! However, I feel like I have to mention one thing. The supporter that appears in 2:21 is Manolo el del Bombo (spanish for Manolo of the Big Drum), and he is the most charismatic supporter our national team has. During the days when Piqué was being constantly booed, Manolo was one of the most prominent figures in television asking for these boos to stop and to keep calm amongst other supporters. I hope this video doesn't paint him in a wrong light because the man is really an amazing person.

I wasn't talking about Cruyff's tactics or the trophies that he won as a manager, I was talking about his BIGGEST achievement as a manager, his legacy to Barcelona and to football.

Like Ancelotti, who lost 4-0 to Simeone's Atletico. Like Simeone, who lost 3-0 to Zizou's Real Madrid. Like Zizou, who lost 0-3 to Valverde's Barça. The list goes on and on, every great manager suffered a 'tactical humiliation' at some point of his career, and you know why? It's because they are humans, they make mistakes.

He was so disrespectful towards my club and the tifosi by letting journalists taking pictures of him with the cup one day before the final as if Barcelona already had won the Cup. Also he told journalists that Milan could only defend and that it played negative football. I mean seriously... But yes you remain of course correct, Cruijff was a great football player and a great coach. One who provided a big contribution to Barcelona's success.

As a rule of thumb the quality of an education system can be measured by the teaching of its most important subject, History. If you don't know where you've come from you have no idea where you're going. In countries like the UK the teaching of history is very bad now, not unsurprising because the state wants to induce collective amnesia, it suits their purposes very well. It would be remarkable if it wasn't exactly the same across much of Europe where the EU holds sway (for now).

Madrid was the political capital of the Spanish Republic, obviously it was a place besieged for years for its political importance and strategic. That data is irrelevant and I do not understand very well what you mean by that. I can imagine it but it seems too stupid and without substantial importance.

The president, people say euphoric and drunk, gave him a gold badge that he wore in his jacket. The other was in 1971 for the opening of the Palau Blaugrana. Paulino Alcantara, one of Barcelona's pioneers and arguably their best goalscorer until the 50s was a proud Falangist. He represented Catalonia, Philippines, and Spain in the 20s.

Very few years ago this could have been a national team: Valdés Sergi Roberto - Piqué - Puyol - Jordi Alba Sergio Busquets - Xavi - Cesc Fábregas Sergio García - Gerard Moreno - Bojan Perfectly capable to win a world cup.

FC Barcelona's nationalist position is risky, due to the fact that they have supporters all around Spain, moreover, their our home, Camp Nou, is 50/50 when it comes to Catalonia's independence. And just a little funny fact: la 'Guerra de Sucesión' (they call it, wrongly, 'Secesión') was a war between Borbons crown and Austrias, not one between Spain and Catalonia, as they say it was; Catalan nationalist claim that when Brobones won that war, we lost all our autodetermination, which we had under the control of Austrias. Nothing further from reality. I could explain all about that war, but I don't think you guys are intersted in that :D. Just wanted to give a little fact.

So, when Barça positionates itself in a pro-nationalist way, they are kind of betraying their supporters too.

I kinda wish how Cruijff gave Barca & Spain so much, Pep returns the favour with Oranje because Spain won't have him as their manager even though he's expressed the desire to take over a national team sometime in future. Added, Dutch were suffering until last few matches where things are looking a bit better. Pep would change them drastically, they have a very young squad which he'd find ideal to mold.

No. The rules state no political symbols in a stadium during club matches. It's never a good idea to mix politics and football and that should also apply to Pep REGARDLESS

I would love to see a similar-type video about Athletic Club and the Basque Country.

I’ve seen a lot of games and it is like people from different parts of Spain just hate each other, I mean not only in Barcelona you find people insulting, also on Valencia or Bilbao, it doesn’t have to be a Catalan club involve; at least that’s impression I have after watching La Liga during the years. In other countries you would find people hating each other but strictly for reasons of passion for their club, on Spain I get the feeling that they just hate the region from where the club comes.

Regions around Spain also have their own teams, the Basques, the Andalucians, Galicians, Madrid etc. Have all also played for their regional/ national teams. They also all continued to play under Franco’s dictatorship. Catalonia even played the Spanish national team!

The treatment of Catalan voters was inhumane and appalling but the vote shouldn’t be presented as legitimate. It was held solely with the support of independence supporters and not certified or supported by the majority even of Catalans or Barcelonans. If people other than those who wanted independence anyway had treated the vote as real and legitimate and turned up the result would have reflected the huge diversity of people and opinion in Catalonia. FCB is supported by a huge variety of people in the city, region, Spain and the world. The motto is a celebration of a diverse liberal and a Catalan pride that for many supporters does not mean separation from Spain. The voices of the most vocal group of independence supporters should not be the only view the Catalan promotes over the majority

@@carterroane1034 The polls are nowhere near 80 percent and not more than half the population. In the illegal referendum held last year there are pictures of several people voting in 4 different sites and many other using fake ID's to vote.

La liga could allow Barca and athletic Bilbao and all the other basque and Catalan teams to remain in their current leagues should their respective regions gain independence. Threats of expulsion are made to discourage their fight for independence. The Basque Country and Catalonia bring in a lot of money into the Spanish economy and the Spanish government is terrified at the thought of losing that.

@@mikespearwood3914 I feel like the FFF would jump on that as soon as they could if it became a possibility. I mean when you look at it in terms of geographical location, Barcelona is quicker to get to from Toulouse, Montpellier & Marseille than it is from Madrid and the distance from Barcelona to Seville isn't that much less than Barcelona to Lille. Plus you'd probably end up with a fairly similar rivalry (albeit not as deep) with PSG as they have with Real and it'd be a massive cash injection for French football. I don't see the RFEF willingly allowing Barcelona to walk though considering what they bring financially to the league and how important the Real/Barca rivalry is to the global football landscape. It is an interesting thought to consider though.

Thankfully that'll never happen. La Liga knows the commercial implications of losing Catalonian teams(especially Barca) from the league. Catalonia may leave Spain but they will find out some way to allow Catalonian teams to continue playing in the league.

Also, don't forget that Johan his son was born in the Netherlands. He gave him the Catalan name Jordi as a hidden protest ( a name which was forbidden in Spain but also common in the Netherlands). Also he was not just the coach for the Catalan national team, he also played for them in 1976.

Barca fans who disrespect or hate cruyff are not true barca fans. Cruyff is the greatest gift to Barcelona, and Catalunya

It confused me a kid on why Catalans wanted independence when I was younger. As an American-born Catalan in a Spanish community I was exposed to some of the hate. Many of Spanish families came to this community in the NY Metropolitan Area during the Franco regime. The older generations was so prideful about their Catalan heritage where as us kids didn't care as much. This was due us being Americans rather than Spanish under Franco. We were aloud to speak Catalan and practice our traditions. Heck even the other Basque, Andalusian, and Galician kids shared their traditions. We mostly saw ourselves as Spaniards rather than whatever identity our folks kept screaming about. Again this is because we were born in a society and area where diversity was our identity. In addition I was also mixed as my father was a Peruvian man, so I wasn't fully Catalan and exposed to just one culture. Even as I got older I found being so nationalistic and being prideful just for being born in a certain culture means little to me. I love my culture but because I didn't live in an environment where I was banned from celebrating it made me not as angry as the Catalans in Spain. Even though many say the call for independence is about taxes, it still is rooted in the culture of Catanlunya. We for the most part have been Anti-Castilian since we were conquered by them.

Its like portugal in 1580 if im not mistaken, we were taken over by the spanish and indured 60 of spanish rule over us, until 1640 when D. João IV led a revolution against the spanish. Due to that spanish rule we lost colonies to spain's enemies (the dutch in particular) and economic power due to promises not being kept. So as a portuguese we dont like the spanish that much, and i understand what catallonians are feeling. That said, im not saying I dont like spanish culture or the people, I dont like the pillars on which the country stands, especially the monarchy

@@diogomachado2593 Portugal was not exactly "conquered", The King of Portugal died in 1580 without direct heirs, which led to a dispute between 2 cousins who claimed the throne: António, Prior of Crato, and Philip II of Spain. In the case of Catalonia, the King of Aragon (which included Catalonia) married the Queen of Castille in 1469 and there was not even a dispute. Countries are nothing but inventions of the rulers to oppress the people. I don't think anyone cared in 1469 or 1580 who were the nobles oppressing them, but nowadays we seem to be more interested in fighting with each other over which corrupt politicians should take advantage of us rather than in preventing them from doing so. Nationalism is definitely the triumph of the elites.

They conquered u??? In the 1200's Catalonia joined Aragon and in the 1400's u guys joined castilla. For better or worse u been together since.

If you say Cataluña was conquered, you have no idea of Spain's history. Cataluña has never existed as an Independent State. They were a region inside the Corona de Aragón, formed by Aragón, Cataluña, Valencia, Murcia and the Balear isles. The king Fernando the II of Aragón married Isabel I of Castille, this being the baso of a united kingdom which would become España. They refer to the War of Spanish Succession, and that Barcelona was conquered. It is far more complicated than that. Carlos the II was born with serious fisicall and mental problems due to the incest of Spanish Emperors, the Habsburg of Austria. He died at the age of 38 without having fathered any children. Because of that, everyone in Europe tried to reclaim the crown, being the two most likekly candidates Felipe d'Anjou (grandson of the King of France, a Borbon) and Archduke Charles of Austria (a Habsburg cousin of Carlos the II). Charles the II named Felipe king before he died, but the Archduke Charles refused to give up his claim to the throne, so a war started. The war involved every single european forces, because at that time, Spain was the most powerful empire in the world, so it was in the interest of everyone to have a suitable ruler for it. France supported the new Spanish monarch (Felipe), because he was french and they would rule over Europe if he remained king. Austria, England, Netherlands, they all supported Charles, because they wanted to stop Frances power. Inside Spain, Castillian territories supported Felipe the V (now king), but most of Aragón regions supported Archduke Charles, because he promised to let them keep their Fueros (regional ancient laws) when he became the king. And so the war started. It ended when Archduke Charles brother, José the I of Austria (emperor of the Austrian empire), died, so he returned to Austria in order to become the Emperor, abandoning his claims over Spain. When this happened, most of the regions that supported him gave up the war, but the region of Cataluña decided to go on alone. As the last remanent of rebellion, the King Felipe the V attacked the city and ended the war. Felipe the V, having been raised in the french court, ruled following the French example, which consisted in centrilizing evrything on the capital, Madrid, and the catalonian bourgeoisie (very wealthy merchant class) didn't like having to pay taxes to Madrid's government, so they started to use the lower classes to fight the ''spanish conquerors'' to stop paying. But calonian independent move didn't take force until the XX century, because of the dictatorships of Primo de Rivera and Francisco Franco. I've left a lot of information out, but this is more or less, the Spanish history. The claims of having been conquered are not true, but people simply believe what they are told for political purposes instead of researching and finding the truth.

@@danibiendi7829 Yea a lot of my relatives typically use the words conquered and stolen which goes back to how the older generation likes to push a narrative on to the younger audience. And I don't know much of Spanish history as a Spanish person from Spain would as naturally I'm American, and most of the history I learn is from my relatives which as one can tell they like to push a narrative just they're stuck in their old ways.

You click it, knowing wholeheartedly you're going to enjoy the video and learn a thing or two about politics, economics, finances and even perhaps some psychology of the sport and the world. Years from now, you are going to be heralded for being a trailblazer in the industry of content creation around a sport. Keep it up uMaxIt, keep it up TiFo.

I don't understand why people cannot respect other cultures or even the push for its independence. Is it about power? Or control? I live in a country in Africa where smaller groups, with strong cultural heritage, are denied the expression of their unique individuality and independence, as the larger population (mostly the government and media to be honest) feel threatened by this. Schools that use languages or have a unique cultural heritage that belongs to smaller groups, are hated by the media and political groups, and forced to convert to mainstream English schools, and reject the main language and culture it was built on. Now most schools are essentially bullied to become English schools, ironically contradicting the constitution of the country itself, which gives people the right to be educated in their home language. Now the most spoken language is English, whereas the primary home languages are Zulu, Xhosa, Sotho and Afrikaans. I.e. people are denied their own unique heritage, culture and identity.

Dude. Franco was a Military dictatorship, his team was today Atletico de Madrid, then Atletico aviador, "the team of the army" (literal slogan). He changed the rules twice in order to favour Atletico aviador and avoid relegation. FC Barcelona was managed by senior military chiefs because during the civil war they were all killed, therefore was highly indulge to transfers or to build and paid Camp Nou. Real Madrid happened to win and as every dictatorship, they used theirs success to market thee regime. Franco denied himself the expansion of the santiago bernabeu stadium , the tranning facilities and many transfers

By the way, actually Franco hated Real Madrid because the president´s right hand, Raimundo Saporta was jew. He used him as friendly regime to jews propaganda (considering what happened with his friend Hitler after WW II) and sell Spain as geographic allied to the USA air forced against URSS and win some cash and protection, but in reality the man was forced to work in misery for peanuts and died as a very poor man. Ramindo Saporta ´s widow was supported privately by real madrid after his dead so she can eat.

This is a subject dear to my heart. My family comes from Spain, I have more family in Spain that I do in my home country, from Arcos de la Frotnera to Barcelona. The Catalans have it all wrong. While they were a shining beacon of Republicanism during the War of Independence and in strong and correct opposition to Franco it is no longer 1939, the year the war ended. Franco and all his nationalistic tendencies died when Juan Carlos restored the Monarchy and Republicanism. Catalans are free to speak their own language, have their own newspapers, their own TV stations. The Spanish Constitution does not allow for secession and Catalonia forgets it's place. It is part of Spain and will always be part of Spain. They have no legal right nor moral reason to leave. This is a strictly political move by Catalan politicians to stay in power. If Catalan was allowed to succeed then what? They will not be allowed in the EU, they will not be allowed to use the Euro. Their biggest export is Barcelona Soccer. They would do well to stay away from the advice of footballers and television commentators. Viva España.

This is mad late but say they did get independence when Messi was still there then I don’t see la liga ejecting them, and even if they did Barcelona is probably close enough to France to be invited into Ligue 1 and FIFA recognizes Kosovo so they would accept Cata if they became legit

Catalan's defiance was always there - it didn't emerge because of Franco's coming to power. Even if Spanish right-wing government's crackdown on pro-Independence unofficial referendum was appalling - it was reaction to provocation by Catalan pro-independence parties. In same fashion such reaction provoked another stronger wave of pro-independent sentiment and created more division and pushed people into nationalisms (Spanish nationalism and Catalan nationalism). In times of Cruyff (under clear repression) defiance made more sense. But today it feels like another identity politics scheme (people feeling abstract lack of respect et cet) and political football for Catalan politicians. Also justifying separation from Spain by economic reasons is disgusting. It's basically "many people in Spain are still struggling but we, Catalans, don't care, we want our wealthy region to be separated from the rest of the poor Spain". It's also pretty naive because not one country can be materially sovereign - Catalonia would still have to rely on trade with Spain and be dependent on that bigger country because Catalonia doesn't produce everything its people need. So all comes down to abstract cultural independence but Catalonia already has it.

Arguably, it's not as simple. Unlike Catalonia, Wales had never voted to leave the United Kingdom - at least, not in recent times. Thus clubs like Swansea and Cardiff City are not really politically affected. Maybe it's just me, but that's why we don't see Scottish or Northern Irish clubs in the EPL; perhaps there's some political implications there.

@@UXB1000 Politics influence Barça but its far from being such a political team as Celtic or Rangers. There are lots of unionists who support Barça and in fact the team has followers all over Spain. Although it has historically more links with Catalan nationalist movements and politicians than Espanyol and this has influenced their respective fanbases, tat's true.
