In fact, my favorite one. The archer who lit the Barcelona'92 cauldron is a a paralympic athlete and the organizers of event were concerned about whether he could emotionally handle the pressure of hitting his target on the one night, in the one instant. Since 1990, around 200 archers were tested to perform in the Olympic Opening, andRebollo proved the most likely to succeed. But the organizers of ceremony wanted to have a Catalonian archer and Rebollo is from Madrid. They asked Rebollo to teach others archers its techiniques, but Rebollo refused and they had no choice and choose him. In nearly 700 practice shots, Rebollo missed only twice. But the organizers could have ignited the flame automatically if he had missed. But Rebollo also had a second arrow to try again if needed. Other thing: the flame ignite the gas which was exiting from cauldron, starting the fire. The arrow did not land into cauldron, just fly close enough to ignite the gas. This was the plan and he did it perfectly. The bent, charred arrow was later found outside the stadium, in the area that had been roped off for that purpose, and has been donated to the Olympic museum at Lausanne, Switzerland.

Horseshit, modern Olympics are what was "Bread and circuses" from the ancient world, in other words modern athletes are modern version of gladiators, they are putting their bodies and health on the line to keep the folk blinded by the sports events, just like the ancient romans who cared more about the gladiator games than their well being.

Technically the arrow wasn't supposed to land on the cauldron but pass by and light it to inaugurate the Olympic Games of Barcelona'92. Besides, he was a paralympic archer and the stadium was practically dark, he was guided only by the light reflex in the cauldron to do the shoot...

  • @chookvalve

@@Ulises-lx3qn The arrow actually went past the cauldron into a flagged off area beyond the Estadi. It did not technically 'ignite' the flame but went perfectly through the intended cauldron's flame's vicinity which was synced up to make it look like an actual ignition source. Landing an arrow into the cauldron would prove to be too dangerous as spectators were straight below! It's not totally fake as the illusion is all that is required for the olympics.

Whoever first came up with that idea was incredibly creative. Off course even if he had missed we all know the torch would have lit. No do-overs on that one.

Absolutely outstanding and enormous performance, that's indeed we call it 'one man show' ... Just imagine, that he was a point of focus surrounded by a huge huge crowd in the stadium and billions by on television sets, everyone would be thinking that what's going on to happen and he proved it all the way.

this lighting was the most beautiful and elegant way to represent that not only the olympic flame relay reaches further than a human can reach by himself, it reaches further than any human can reach at all. it represents the history of humanity and how we take our part in carrying that flame through times.
