Fifty years ago my high school choir performed this piece, in English, at a nearby church. Our performance was absolutely perfect. Unfortunately, we never recorded this song. Never has a piece of music moved so many people.
Whether stringed instruments or voices, this Adagio is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written.
I had the honor and privilege to perform this piece with the Carthage College Choir in the late 90’s. @Elijah Music helps me too. Music like this comes from God. His spirit inspires music like this which is why it has a special affect on us. It lifts up the soul and mind to go beyond our earthly realm and into the divine. "Agnus Dei" means "Lamb of God" which refers to Jesus Christ. I too was feeling depressed about things and this music brought my mind back to God and I felt hopeful again today. Each person has a body and an eternal soul. Our soul will live on and if we try to live good lives, we can spend our eternity in Heaven with God after we die. In the meantime, we have to make an effort to use our talents/skills to help others and do the task for which God sent us to earth. Take care my friend!

Not possible to fully accept that. The Adagio came 33 years before the Agnus Dei version. About the number of years that Jesus lived among our blessed predecessors. Of course, Barber like many great artists had genius. But the raising of that genius to transcending levels is the work of the Holy Spirit. In His striving to make us better Disciples - His core mission - the Holy Spirit helps soe of us reach higher and others of us to see more of the effects of that. How wonderful is that?
