Brilliant Shaun, after you having had to suffer my videos for so many years.. It was a real pleasure to watch this one of yours... I imagine it was mostly (entirely self shot) if so .. well done... you've got it down to a tee.. As you know I'm virtually only fishing for barbel here in France these days and your clip was sooo good. It gave me loads of little tips and ideas I'd not thought of. I'd love to fish one of your rivers one day... cheers Gareth

Thanks Gareth, yes it was all self shot - a proper 'Billy no mates day' :-) Glad you picked up a few useful bits from it. Give us a shout next time you are in the U.K. and I'll see if I can arrange something if the calendar is free.

Really little need to use a mat that evening Spike, the grass was soft and properly wet through and barbel don't thrash and bang their heads around like carp. The mat is always with me but sense dictates where it is needed. That evening the soft grass under the wet net was fine with the first double. The second one the 12.12 was photographed in a drier/dustier spot under a bush to bounce more light around from the flash and the mat was used there.

End of day we rag fish around by a hook in their mouth so when people moan cause it was unhooked on wet grass makes me laugh.

Great video shaun. Just like to know what test curve rods you use to caat them feeders out? They looked heavy!

Michael Bunn The feeders had 5 oz leads on them and the bait inside pushed the weight up to a fraction under 7oz (weighed). The rods I am using are the Free Spirit Big Water Barbel rods which have a test curve of around 2 1/4lb. I have thrashed these rods for over 2 seasons now with no problems at all. Powerful enough to cope but soft enough to still give a healthy bend when a chub is hooked.
