    Hi Allan, I was using 12mm Sticky baits krill active. They are perfect barbel baits as they are pretty much a 12mm kill with a layer of paste around them. www.anglingdirect.co.uk/sticky-baits-the-krill-active-freezer?queryID=3b3f48595fe34e649e193147a4045f4a&objectID=92845&indexName=live_ad_uk_products Regards Phil,

    Hi, watching this video, Phil stresses the importance of a baitrunner reel. Can i ask, are these set tight as to give no line, when under pressure from the flow or are the ledges heavy enough to keep the bait static in the flow? The ledgers look around 4oz? I suffer from the line continuously paying out when my baitrunners are on fishing the Trent. Thanks, Barry

  • @AnglingDirectTV

    @AnglingDirectTV

    4 ай бұрын

    Hello Barry, You will need to adjust the tension on the baitrunners so that the flow can’t pull line from the reel. A barbel will still strip line from the reel on the bite, a tighter baitrunner also helps set the hook 🪝 n the take 👌 Regards Phil

    Brilliant mate well done, I'm on a mad pursuit for one myself on the upper thames but being thin on the ground and loosing 3, (2 in one night 😢) over the last 8 outings I'm torn between a trip on the wye or on the trent just to ease the pain and hopefully put a bend in the rod 😂

    Would you only use the combi-rig for rocky swims like the Trent, or as a general river barbel and carp set up?

  • @AnglingDirectTV

    @AnglingDirectTV

    8 ай бұрын

    The combi-rig works well on all faster flowing rivers. Using a longer hooklink definitely gets more bites 👌. The stiffness of the fluorocarbon makes the rig 99% tangle proof and super tough.

    Phil was using the Advanta Barbel Twin Tip rod in 2.25/2.75lb tc. Depending on the weight you need to cast you can choose the right top section for the job. The 2.75lb section will cope with very heavy weights/feeders up to 8oz. www.anglingdirect.co.uk/advanta-barbel-twin-tip-fishing-rod?queryID=2a10dfc294cf1d4897f8a8323461e5c1&objectID=107670&indexName=live_ad_uk_products

    The OMC blend fluorocarbon in 15lb has been mega tough for me this Autumn. I've caught dozens of barbel from very snaggy swims on the same long boom sections. I just attach fresh braided sections when the hook gets spoilt. www.anglingdirect.co.uk/omc-blend-fluorocarbon-fishing-hooklink-soft-20m?queryID=40c806f298135837a94084d3e5e17f08&objectID=101723&indexName=live_ad_uk_products Regards Phil,
