Für diesen schönen Text kann man Barbara gar nicht genug Gedenken. Ich bin jetzt 56 Jahre alt und habe dieses Lied 2021 zum ersten mal gehört und Barbara war mir auch nicht bekannt. Das wird sich ändern. MfG

Ich kenne sie seit 1991 aber nur weil Marc almond ein Lied nachsing. Es gab auch lange im Internet nix. Viel Spass beim nachforschen!

ein sehr schönes Chanson, doch Göttingen und Paris gibt es zum Glück an vielen Orten in Deutschland und Frankreich. Bin ein deutscher Papa von drei französischen Kindern und von einem super-tollen deutsch-französisch-französischem Enkelkind, Ich hoffe, das geht so weiter. Macht Liebe...nicht Krieg!

Toll. Als Karlsruher war ich schon als Schüler öfter in Paris und die französische Kultur hat mich immer fasziniert. War dann jahrelang im frankophonen Afrika und bin heute mit einer frankophonen Kamerunaise verheiratet. ❤❤❤

Bouclés, marinière)...amoureux de M.Polnaref !! That this "Germany is responsible for the first WW) was written after the war is disproved by modern history (and no - not German history) or at least relativised. - And yes - this is important, because the "Germany is responsible alone" was one important reason for Word War II. -

fwbz... It has been confirmed Germany was responsible for taking the first steps towards war...it was all premeditated and they only needed an excuse! On 28 July, Germany assumed that Russia had, after all, decided upon war and that her mobilisation put Germany in danger This was doubly so because German war plans, the so-called Schlieffen Plan, relied upon Germany to mobilise speedily enough to defeat France first (by attacking largely through neutral Belgium) before turning to defeat the slower-moving Russians.Thus, in response to Russian mobilization, Germany ordered the state of Imminent Danger of War (SIDW) on 31 July, and when the Russian government refused to rescind its mobilization order, Germany mobilized and declared war on Russia on 1 August. Given the Franco-Russian alliance, countermeasures by France were, correctly, assumed to be inevitable and Germany, therefore, declared war on France on 3 August 1914.

richtige Demokraten schon ! DIE RECHTSEXTREMEN BRAUNEN, die sich zur Tarnung gerne ein demokratisches Deckmäntelchen anziehen, HABEN NICHTS DAZUGELERNT ....

This uses the German songtext as written by Barbara, herself. I believe she had a native German speaker as a collaborator (if I may use that word). I forget his name. I have to say that I do not like it. I know almost no German poetry. [I don't know very much English poetry for that matter. But I have a passion for songtexts] The German version seems to lack the subtlety and fluency of the original French version. I claim that the "translation" is engineered, whereas Barbara (the genius) probably threw her original French version together in a cloud of inspiration in one afternoon. She loved what she was doing - and it shows. How can I tell? Look at the line which has the four German names in it (unaccountably changed in this German version, and the worse for it). We have: "Herman, Peter, Helga et Hans", These are four German names which popped into her head, the last one constrained to rhyme with "France". She did not try to improve on these four. However, "Herman, Heidi, Helga et Hans", would be so much better. Those four names alliterate, and are split evenly between boys and girls. A poet's dream. That is an engineered improvement. Engineered poetry is not always good - as William McGonagall's "The Tay Bridge disaster" (for instance) will testify. But on this occasion, Barbara had been inspired, and she left her songtext at that. Maybe she would polish it up a bit, later. I know the French version quite well, now, having played it again and again. I shall go away and study the German version. It doesn't feel as if closer scrutiny will improve it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have done that. And the German version is every bit as bad as I had feared. Almost everywhere, where the French version is simple and poignant, the German version is complex and clumsy. Sometimes comically so. For instance, it references: "Frankreichs grosse Männer". This is a bit vague, to say the least, whereas the French kings are easy to list - so easy that schoolchildren in neighbouring countries can do it. One wonders if these "great men" go back as far as Napoleon, in which case the Germans have something to reproach the French for. !!!! Maybe we are just talking about Charles Trenet. The next verse starts by affirming something "ohne Frage". And ends by asking just such a question. !!!! And so on, und so weiter. From then on, the German version gets worse. The French version makes me want to cry. The German version makes me want to throw things. Yet I understand why the German version is so dreadful, having myself, tried to translate: "Dis. Quand reviendras-tu" into German. German is a bastard language to write poetry in, [with all due respect to Heine, Schiller and co.]. First, it is not a "space saving" language. You use up the word allowance for a line pretty quickly. Second, suppose you have some idea in mind and have a particular rhyme at the end of the line. Then you make a minor change. The word-order of the sentence completely scrambles itself. The task must be easier for native German speakers - which I am not. And neither was Barbara. The German version is best "vergessen".

Als ernsthafter Französisch- und Deutschlerner finde ich die Untertitel jedoch ziemlich nervig. - J'adore cette chanson dans les deux langues. However, I find the subtitles quite annoying as a serious learner of both French and German.

By the way the century long historical enmity was not Germanys fault alone! The guilt over the centurys between Germany and France is equal - this can't be said for example if you look to our Eastern Neighbors, where Germany was clearly the more aggresiv part. - But France was aggressive to Germany also very often in its history -- But one thing is right - this has nothing to do with the people of today - nowhere. So lets make a better future.

J'ai écouté des centaines de fois la version française originale de la célèbre chanson de Barbara. C'est une chanson tellement belle et touchante. Mais à mon avis, ça sonne TERRIBLE en allemand. Cela n'a pas non plus beaucoup de sens. La chanson parle de réconciliation, après les choses terribles que les Allemands ont faites aux Français. Et Barbara était juive, rappelez-vous ! Dans la version allemande, les Allemands se pardonnent-ils eux memes? Les Allemands ont-ils quelque chose à reprocher aux Français - du moins depuis l'époque de Napoléon ?
