    Subscribed. Great video. I purchased one of the Baofeng GMRS-9R radios to pair with two Wouxun GMRS KG-905G radios. I am a prepper and it just makes sense to have an inexpensive radio for a future event. The Wouxun KG905G is an excellent radio. I purchased them the day before their release at $125.00 each, if my memory is correct. Thanks for the video.... and I hope that your son has worked out his counting issue!

    If you kid were to hold the radio at the right position, that is in front of his fave but to the left or right side, rather than right in front of his face (Dukes of Hazard style), there would be none what I call “air spit.” That is when the air coming out of your mouth as you talk hits the mic and makes the well known noise some people make while talking on radios. Try it, it will make him sound clearer. You are welcome!

    I keep a radio on me while on the trail, with a notice on my vehicle with the channel i monitor. Just in case something happens i figured itd be a decent start in a search to be able to try and reach out.

    I like the idea of a note on the vehicle with a frequency. That's a great idea!

    @@coachbulldog4917 Great idea on leaving a note. An additional measure would be to leave an inexpensive radio at your vehicle for an individual who may be looking for you to be able to reach you.

    Thank-you for this video. how hard is it to set up to talk with a frs radio using the sub/privacy channels such as channel 7 sub code 02? Also I did not hear a "roger beep" after your chats with your son, so how do you know when he was done talking? Do you have a comparison video with the UV-9R? I am a radio noob just starting out trying to upgrade from a frs radio while Kayak fishing wanting to chat with my bank/kayak buddies that are using a frs radio....Thanks for your time

    Using the menus in the radio is not to difficult to program but I use Chirp software to program my radios. We do not use Roger beeps. I started out as a HAM radio operator and I just got used to it that way.

    I run a 9R on channel #3 in low power setting with a headset & boom mic, just so my disabled wife can talk to me while I am out cutting the grass on our 3 acre property

    I only program through CHIRP so I didn’t do a tutorial on the menus of the radio. Even when traveling I use the laptop with a programming cable to load memories into the radio.

    I'm looking for a GMRS radio for backpacking. My criteria is water resistant or waterproof, USB-C chargeable, not too heavy or too big. What would you recommend? I like the Rocky Talkie brand, but they seem over priced.

    I have a question, totally new to all this… how can you find a channel that won’t be in use with others (for the most part) so that you know you won’t be a hinderance to others?

  • @KempOutside

    @KempOutside

    I always listen first to see if anyone is using the channel. If I don’t hear anything I go ahead and use it. There is always a chance someone can hear me when I can’t hear them, but I don’t know how I’d avoid that.

    Family that live in your one house can use your licence...my adult daughter 25 foot away in another house can't use my licence.fcc directly told me.

    Im not saying you’re incorrect, but I don’t think what you were directly told is 100% correct according to their actual government documents. Federal Communications Commission Part 95-personal radio service Subpart A: General Mobile Radio service. Sec. 95.179 Individuals who may be station operators. (a) An individual GMRS system licensee may permit immediate family members to be station operators in his or her GMRS system. Immediate family members are the: (1) Licensee; (2) Licensee's spouse; (3) Licensee's children, grand-children, stepchildren; (4) Licensee's parents, grandparents, stepparents; (5) Licensee's brothers, sisters; (6) Licensee's aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews; and (7) Licensee's in-laws. It specifies what the FCC considers immediate family in writing, but never specifies the immediate family must be in the same “household” anywhere. So either the FCC personnel you spoke with stated their personal interpretation, or the written laws are incorrect….. but when dealing with legalities, the specific laws written in document will overrule any personal stated opinion of the law or its interpretation, despite who stated it.
