Banned from iRacing - indefinitely

Ойындар

EDIT: I've since had my account reinstated, and you can see my video about that here: • I'M BACK ON IRACING! .
Also, I stream most nights over on www.twitch.tv/McLeod40
Had a lovely email from iRacing telling me my account has been banned indefinitely after 12 years as a paying customer and owning 100% content for the last couple of years.
The intro to the video is incidents that have taken me out of races from the last 15 days ONLY!
Here's my explanation on the current state of iRacing's protest system.

I've filed a protest on someone for a far more egregious intentional wreck than that and he only got a 1 week ban. If you got a permanent ban for this there are other factors at play, likely including a poor history of protests filed against you.

Maybe an appeals system comprised entirely of your peers. Members must be on a randomized and rotating basis with no conflict of interest whatsoever with anyone involved that would ensure impartiality. How hard would it be to create an algorithm that keeps players who may have beef with each other apart too. In real life the points on your license reset they should here as well and the policies should be fully transparent. I don't believe in lifetime bans, sanctions, temporary bans from particular circuits or fines ect. Fine. Intent matters whether you succeed or not, just changes the charge from murder 1 to murder 2/manslaughter and all are interchangeable.

With the barber skip, you come back to the track when your car is destroyed and you have to take a TOW. In addition, you put a steering wheel to expel the next competitor ... With the Ferrari GT3, you start a fight with a competitor while you already have +1L due to an accident + TOW. As if that wasn’t enough, you jump into the corner at the last moment, losing the trajectory to lean on the other Ferrari. With an iRating like this, it means you’ve been riding iRacing for a long time. Having such an experienced behavior means you probably always rode like this. Yet, iRacing warns right from the start that the philosophy of the main game is to try to run clean. This is not your case, and I dare not imagine the number of player's racing that you had to destroy ... iRacing is a very expensive game. To be permanently banned, you really had to do a lot.

Was McLeod40 did was perfectly fine and just how GT-racing is. I saw many moves like that in real GT3-racing without any consequence other than applauding mods. General rule is: If you are side-by-side enough to be seen by the opponent through the side window (so even not fully door to door, which was the case in those moves) it's not the former leaders corner anymore and he need to leave space. Divebomb is braking so late you can't properly make the corner or just sticking your nose into the line of the opponent like at 0:38 for example.

  • @Leynad778

@SimRacingNerd Who doesn't? IMO even retaliate an intentional crash should not lead to a ban. In the past people did fist-fights to settle it or retaliate it in later races. But people who retaliate for getting overtaken fairly without obvious damage are just pain in the ass for others and should get banned. iRacing is full of those jerks and even worse in the top-split. But the system in iRacing is provoking it. With an A or even B licence it's only about iRating and in the real world you don't loose points while trying, but only can gain them. Also you usually don't compete with everyone in the world, but your locals first and iRacing could do this as well by doing splits accoring to the location and not just iRating.

I gotta be honest here man, I think the fact that you got banned is on you. You can blame it on the protest system all you want to make yourself feel better, but at the end of the day man, people that get angry and retaliate for people's mistakes, intentional or not, are not people I want to be racing with. Think about it this way, over your twelve years in iRacing, and your thousands of races, you've participated in enough shady behavior and wrecks to win yourself a ban. I understand that your erratic driving might have ended years ago, but at the end of the day you still have to take responsibility for that behavior, even if it was in fact years ago. I think you just got karma'd, so to speak. At some point you have to step back and think about why you're getting wrapped up in all these wrecks and drama in the first place, even if they aren't necessarily entirely your fault. Personally I hope you get unbanned my man, but if nothing else, at least take the opportunity to learn something from this instead of unloading all of it on iRacing's protest system.

I know his ban was lifted, so it was basically a time out....early on, I also retaliated, sometimes it's hard to control that emotion, especially when you set aside time to race, and end up in back to back to back races, with....and it only takes 1 idiot, to ruin a weekend. How many times, have you seen the same drivers in the same races, especially if you are working on a license increase? Everyone participating in the same events, and while the split system sometimes separates, many times you end up in the same heat. I literally ended up in 3 heats, with a guy that was obviously drunk(Chat) in 3 of 3 races, he took people out. Most people will not wait the cool down period and report, but if this guy was running 3 races, I'm betting he ran 10. How many people lost places as a result of his behavior. While ultimately he may have been reported, and possibly banned, are the point losses due to his behavior returned? He was a lap down, taking the pole sitter out, and that crash took the 3 Podiums out as well to dnf....the work those 3 guys put in, lost. Point being, there is no one size fits all punishment. And for the money someone spent over 12 years, I think it's in iracings best interest, to investigate as much as possible, before handing out permanent bans.

Retaliation is the key here as it removes any chance of it being a racing incident or just genuine human error. We don't want people banned just because of mistakes, overdriving, getting too deep into corners from time to time - we want them banned for cheating and for deliberate attempts to cause a crash. I’m kinda torn on these incidents. As a GT racer, those two dives on the inside were not very clean. I get you weren’t give much room but you could’ve easily taken him a few turns later if you had the pace. The skip barber race, the first one, I can’t tell if it’s mechanical failure because you were dragging to the left but when the car passes, the car turns more than it already had. So for that I can’t really know. A permanent ban is definitely not right for you and I hope you get unbanned some how, but retaliation is no at all the way no matter how heated the moment is. And I know that’s easy to say through a computer screen in a comment but it’s not. Race the way you want to be raced back. You retaliate, they’ll retaliate back. You try a risky dive down the inside, they’ll try the same thing it’s always how it is

These moves were aggressive and ambitious but still fair. It reminded me of some of Verstappens overtakes which are bullying the driver in front. Now retaliation for these moves are not condoned at all... as a driver of the car that just got passed in that manned i understand you're fuming but relaliating in that manner is not the way. Now he got reported for hitting someone while he had damage. I do not know if the swerve to the left was intentional or due to the damage, if it was intentional he rightly got banned. That being said we all made stupid mistakes and I also overshooted a few time the braking zone and took out another guy out, nothing intentional but there have been instances when people do hit intentionally and it's clear as day but do not get banned or anything. However he is correct that the protest systems needs a rework.

I feel for you there. But you can't take it out on others and if you ARE, you need to recognize that and fall back. I personally finally just started getting my own shit together. I still have a long way to go, but... god damn if I don't realize how much of a dick i was on the forums. So take this time to sit back, recognize your failures. You might be able to contact iracing later and overturn the ban but you should take some time to improve yourself first. To a point now I just don’t bother. In the short time I have been on I think the last 3 months the driving standards have definitely gone down and nothing is happening. That bad I am racing from the back just to try and get my safety rating up. By no means Iam I a great driver and have made mistakes and taking people out. But have both apologise during the race and sent messages just in case they didn’t hear it during the race. Yes we all want to race, and to win, but there is no risk for some people and therefore no consequences for poor driving. What was wrong with them other than being aggressive? He had the inside and was up to the mirrors if not front wheels on both. In both cases the line was his as he had established position and it is up to the other driver to cede. Both of those moves were calculated. The door bang on one of them is insignificant and if a driver takes umbrage to those then that driver should not be racing against people, just AI. The problem with iRacing ( 4 year and current user) is that they enable drivers to think that if they stay on their line, they then own the track and no one is allowed to challenge them, especially in cases such as shown in the video. What many iRacers fail to realize (either through willful or blissful ignorance) is that IRL (we claim it is a sim, not a game, correct?) moves such as he made are done all the time, with resultant contact made in many cases. The difference is that IRL while the drivers may get pissed they also know that they will make the very same move if given the chance. Many iRacers don't. They then get their underclothes wadded up and protest. iRacing, not wishing to lose subscribers (money) refuse to tell these "racers" to grow up and acknowledge that racing will have incidents, and stop filing protests because feelings were hurt. While the first incident in the Skippy may have been purposeful ( I cannot see enough to be sure) the incident where he ran into the back of the Skippy in front was either due to the other driver purposely causing the incident or a blown motor causing the incident. That iRacing chose to use that against him is ridiculous and shows a bias that should not be there on the part of iRacing. What I want to know is this: If my subscription is banned because iRacing lacks the ability to be objective (which they have shown that they do) when do I get my pro-rated money back for the time I was banned?

Ive never intentionally wrecked someone but if I had of stayed in skippy I would have no doubt. iRacing need to improve the quality of driving without a doubt.

The ones that get me, are the ones guys wreck me. And I’m the one who gets all the damage, and loses places. No drive through or anything for the offender. I say if higher tier races had a live steward every so often that would be cool. Maybe not realistic. Idk

Yeah, idk man. Yours was clearly intentional and is not ok, but I don't think a ban was needed. You must have a history of doing it or something. The first one you showed where the car missed you was too close to call. The 2nd one he was trying to make the turn, was it a terrible move on their end, 100%. Low IR drivers are going to make those moves, and you saw before the incident he was trying to get the spot back and was looking aggressive., So it wasn't going to end well. He showed really early he was going, you should have broke early and let him go. He's either not going to make the turn or if he does stay on track, then keep pressure on him and let him make a mistake. You cant change the way other people drive but you can change how you approach people like that when racing. There is always something you could have done different. It seems like you're putting all the blame on others instead of thinking what you could have done differently. I used to get so mad at people like the guy who sent it on you, until I started thinking different. Hope it helps man.

I don't even play the game. But it seems fair to ban this guy. Well done i-racing . It makes me want to play it if they clamp down on guys like this who deliberately crash into people.

All good but you cant dive bomb like that, you are using the oponent to stop and should give position back. if you can do it cleanly then its another story but generally we watch our rear view mirror to see if there aint some numpty that dive bombs.

Simply put. Iracing has been taken over by gamers. ( not racers) they are running the racers off the service. They will treat the service like a game , not a sim. Crashing after the finnish, treating others like crap , racing dirty and using the protest system like a toy.

That might be the case for low SoF oval series (I’ve barely touched oval), but it’s certainly not the case for the road series I run.
