Bangladesh Vlog - Leica M-A, December 2022

Ойын-сауық

I headed to Bangladesh again with Sarah at the end of 2022, and share some snippets here from the streets of Dhaka using the Leica M-A. From Old Dhaka and Sadarghat to Kawran Bazar and Mohakhali, you'll get a sense of what it's like exploring and photographing this dense capital city.

Hey Hashem, I see you've already received lots of (well-deserved) love in the comments here, but I just wanted to add that I know how much work, time, and thought is involved in turning an enjoyable and stimulating photowalk into a video like this. You obviously know that it was worth it, but I just want to add my recognition and appreciation. ✌

Hey Steven, I appreciate the feedback! You are right, but still I find it really fulfilling to put them together and share these experiences, even if these kind of videos are not the kind that get big views or numbers on my channel historically 😁 Glad you enjoyed it.

One of the most enjoyable videos about travel/street photography I have ever watched. I love the way that you interact with the people you meet Hashem, they all have a story to tell and you are the kind of guy that they like to tell it to, because you listen and really engage with them. Love your 'layered' approach to candid street photography in particular. I know what you mean about Bresson's 'decisive moment', but just because that moment may be a fleeting instant doesn't mean that you don't have to prepare ahead of time in order to find it with your camera. Nicely done mate, keep making videos like this and I guarantee I will keep watching them. Cheers.

Hashem! I have had a tab open with this video since it dropped, just waiting for the right time to watch it. Finally did tonight while scanning some film and man was it worth it. Such great shots, but also the insight into shooting in the area itself as well. Your work on layering subjects within your frame is paying off dividends. The shot at 4:51 literally made my jaw drop, and then smile and say "Yeah, he did the damn thing." So much more interesting than the typical street photography you see most days on youtube. There's a sense of being actually in the environment, not just physically, but emotionally. The photos come off as representing your curiosity of these spaces, and never leaned into the dangerous realm of exploitation. Keep up the fantastic work, dude.

One of my favorite street videos, thank you! Can I ask if you happen to use a filter for your 28mm or just the hood when shooting color? I’m looking into a yellow filter for B&W (maybe a clear as well for color) which I see you use (love the photo rendering!). I see the hood in some shots and not in others so just curious of your setup. Appreciate your insight!

  • @pushingfilm

Thanks! I sometimes use a yellow filter with black and white. I don't have the correct size so I was using a stepping ring, meaning the hood can't go on top 😅 But with colour I don't use any filter except a UV, usually.

People there were more genuinely friendly on average than anywhere I've been in Australia, Europe etc. It just might seem that they're not because of how uncommon/fascinating it is for them to see an outsider.
