Your Patriot has the silver "medium" needle, which at ~.7mm is actually the largest option. The blue "fine" is ~.5mm and the black "super detail" is ~.3mm. From what i understand the Patriots originally came standard with the medium needle but at some point they switched to the fine.

Good catch. And I definitely messed that up I do have the blue setup as well and I picked up another super detail setup since I filmed this. But I have a pretty ridiculous amount of airbrushes Thanks!

Forgot to add the sparmax sp35 comes in 3 varieties in Europe. The regular sp35 with just the cutout on the handle, the sp35b with no cutout or limiter screw on the back, and the sp35c with just the limiter screw on the back (what you have as the max 35). All the same price.

I really would like to see the patriot with the fine needle/nozzle setup

Great video Bill. MIG AMMO in Europe also sell the 105's but rebranded and upgraded more to suit modellers- different needles, back cover etc, with chrome finish instead of nickel and a gold colour back. Current price @125 Euros. You don't see many reviews on them for some reason, so maybe not available in the states. The Sparmax sp35 is on my Christmas list (hopefully). I already own the sp20x so I know the quality is there and the trigger response is perfect for detail spraying on 1/72 scale models. The only drawback is the tiny nozzle, common to the Sparmax range (and Iwatas). It is fragile so you have to be very gentle when pushing the needle up against it or the tip will crack (ask me how I know). Also the very tiny o-ring that seats the nozzle can't be bought separately, so if you soak the nozzle in lacquer thinner to clean out dried paint you will kill the o-ring, forcing you to buy a new nozzle.

The Ammo line of airbrushes are not readily available in the US. Ironically badger will not sell you parts for them either. So you are forced to order parts from overseas. I looked into them. Spraygunner was importing them for a very brief time but again ran into the same maddening issue of parts availabilty. And badger was not willing to make parts available even for retailers. Im assuming Mig has an exclusivity contract. I believe they are based on the omni and not the patriot however.

I should add if parts availability was not a concern, i would most certainly have bought one... even though US price puts them as about even with the eclipse.

Great Review Bill! Out of the 5 brushes review. The only one I can comment on, is the ps 290! Glad I went with that one over the Iwata th due to price difference. I Love the mini spray gun!. Thanks !

Thanks JC! The 290 is a very good very well built airbrush. I have ordered the "no name" minigun with a .8 setup .. So it is possible I sell my 290 in the near future. But it has been a very solid purchase. Its has done a lot of work.

@TheAIRspace that one also looks like a very great built!. I have a noname spraygun and hate to admit but it done a whole better than the iwata lph400 spraying 2k polarion polyurethane!. Saved on material and layed just as good if not a bit better than lph400. If you do decide to go that route, please make a review on no name .08 thanks

I will definitely. The no name spray gun Has been held in pretty high regard from a lot of people. I have had no need for a full size spray gun in a long time.. so no reason for me to spend money on anything like that. My lph80 works great for very rare occasion to paint motorcycle parts now.

I will not ever use the Patriot because the rocker is disconnected from the part following it. I have an airbrush with a valve like that and it is a pain to reassemble.

Hi buddy love your channel. Honest reviews unlike lot off others I’m sure you know what I mean. I’m new to this subject. May I ask for some advice please. First yep I buying cheap just not working for me. I’m into scale model cars. So mostly a mix up off fair size spraying down to detail spraying. Two questions if you don’t mind?. Cost wise around the $100 mark I think you said the patriot? What with primers, base coats, and clear coats. I need an all rounder. This one a difficult one good company s to get paint from. Thank you in advance sir. Stay safe my friend. Kind regards Paul. In the uk. 👍

The patriot with the "fine" tip is a great all rounder for models. So is the omni 4000. The omni 4000 is a little better built than the patriot. But again the patriot can be converted to a "super fine detail" setup or a wider setup quickly and cheaply. UK Pricing is a little different. And the ultra 2024 is just hitting the US.. so that could be better in the UK. Trigger response has not been good on H&S brushes and they are usually more expensive here, but supposedly the 2024 fixes some issues. So it could be a better choice there, ill have to try one. But no question the patriot is a great reliable airbrush for modelers. It is not in my top choices for "art" Unless thats larger scale. But it atomizes paint very well and is above all VERY durable and generally reliable.

Spooky - my 270 nozzle was also bent a week ago after being dropped. Ordered a replacement and a 289 in the same order. Haven't watched until the end but predict gsi and 105 do well

yeah I went a long time not dropping a brush... but things happen. I actually ditched my airbrush holder after the old two hook style that ive used for many years because well they kind of suck :) i keep 3 airbrushes out at the easel most of the time so im gonna fab up some diy idea thats not in my way.

Man I bought 4 avanti harbor freight brushes polished the needles and work better then the iwata neos better response. Smaller needles. Needles are like the creos. Just saying haven’t changed for nothing. Waiting on there new black widow.

  • @TheAIRspace

Well I am not a fan of the neo However the build quality of the one avanti I bought was pretty bad. Now that was a gravity feed The needle was the one bright spot on the avanti, but the cup and hole size was horrible. It also would drag the rocker when removing or replacing on the threads. (The art workshop had the same issue) I did find them reasonably responsive. But I can’t say the line quality was good. It had a tendency to be pretty grainy. I suspect the nozzle cap was a touch out of spec. And of course I could paint with one. And probably even make it perform well enough. Fortunately I have a lot of options. The 183 k also has drop in nozzles, nicer cups 3 tips included and comes with a hose. All for less than the avanti however With all that said what works for one person might just not feel right to the next. The black widows a pretty good gun. Best to you!

Do the sp35 and max35 have the same trigger and all?? Did I hear that right??. I'm actually very interested in trying one of those sparmax brushes. I have a iwata neo and the timbertech 183k and both are nice little brushes but would like to add another good brush to my little collection lol.

well i do use beeswax I actually buy burts bees balm which is just for convenience. But I dont seal any of them unless they are leaking or skipping... Some need more care than others.

as for techniques those little glue applicators modelers use can be helpful since you dont need much and definitely dont want to get it in the wrong spots.
