I loved this review! Thorough deep dive into describing its sonic capabilities, and I couldn’t agree more! I think they’re truly incredible! I have had the same impressions. A huge step-up from the H9. Some might argue that they couldn’t hear the difference. You might need to spend a couple of hours with these. While you might hear the difference immediately, it’s only after having listened to a wider selection of your favourite songs and having watched a few scenes from your favourite movies and then going back to the headphones you’re upgrading or have upgraded from that you really understand that the H95s do stand out. And by the way, include the storage box and the excellent cables and details like the material used even on the on/off/Blutooth switch, and you’ll see how much effort B&O have put into making these. Thanks for your review, it was interesting to watch!

I bought these thanks to your review - and I'm completely blown away by the quality of these. They bring a level of detail and sharpness to the music that I've never experienced before. It's been a long time since I've simply closed my eyes and really listened to tracks that I've known for 30 years and discover new details. The breathing of the singer, the subtlest of ghost notes from the drummer - I could even hear the faint sound of the metronome in one of my favorite piano tracks that I've never been able to identify before. But I struggle to find the best way to use with my vintage bm4400 and bg4000 setup. I don’t recognize your experience using them with a cable as I seem to get some amp after amp like noise, especially if the h95s are at low to semi high volume and i touch the volume control on the bm4400. It works fine with my h9 and the old grados. Do you just turn the h95s to max volume and use the other volume control for the best quality or do you have any other suggestions?

I haven't tried USB audio to the headphones, but if you use Bluetooth then the headphones will receive a digital signal from your laptop and process this with the high quality internal DAC. Best option of all is a good external DAC and use a cable to the analogue line input of the headphones...

Great review! I have been debating on what wireless headphones to get after being sorely disappointed with the Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless. I had my eyes on these and the Focal Bathys. I decided to go for the H95s and this review helped to reaffirm my decision. I really appreciated your insight, technical know-how, and just overall astonishment with these headphones. I'll be receiving my H95s in a couple of days, looking forward to seeing how they sound. I was really disappointed with the Momentum 4s I purchased. I assumed I'd be hearing some good sound, I expected to have a pleasant listening experience. Everyone seemed to have nothing but good things to say about them and they retail for $350 USD so I assumed they would be decent. I was shocked and blown away by how poor sounding the Momentum 4 Wireless were. I hope to be blown away by the H95s but in the opposite way. Rather than being blown away by poor performance, I hope to be blown away by stellar performance and a pleasant listening experience. I never considered myself an audiophile, but after hearing how muddy the Momentum 4s were, maybe I'm more audiophile than I thought. I am somewhat sensitive to sounds and music. I feel I may have spoiled myself by sitting in front of my Audioengine 5+ stereo speakers all day, although I never considered them to be "Audiophile" material. Perhaps I was wrong about that too lol. I just can't get over how poor sounding the Momentums were. I just can't wait to be blown away in a positive way by a pair of headphones like I expected to be with the M4W. If a $350 USD pair of headphones can't do the trick, surely a $899 pair can right? lol

  • @jimmygoodson

    @jimmygoodson

    Жыл бұрын

@@soundsheavenly Well, I received my H95s but I've already returned them. At first they were amazing, and still are for the most part. They sounded much better than the Momentum 4s and I loved the controls. There was some discomfort with regard to the clamping force but I was working on breaking them in and getting used to it. In the end, the reason I returned them was due to a game sound effect that it didn't seem to be able to reproduce properly. The game is FFXIV and there is a simple menu sound effect that is supposed to be a subtle clicking sound that the H95s made quite unpleasant. It made what should have been a subtle click into a sharp almost popping sound. It handled the sound effect better at lower volume levels but the harsh sound became more and more evident the louder I made the headphones. At about 80% volume, the clicking sound became very harsh. It felt like it was penetrating my eardrum. I purchased 2 other headphones at once and switched between them, performing a test of the sound effect, before ultimately returning the H95s. The other 2 headphones I tested were the Bowers and Wilkins Px8 and Focal Bathys. Both headphones handled the sound effect fine at 80% volume. Overall I feel the Focal Bathys produces a cleaner more pleasant sound experience but are similar to the H95s with regards to their sound signature. Why the H95s couldn't handle that menu sound effect is beyond me. It was surprising how well it handled everything else while failing so poorly to produce this silly sound effect to the point of producing a rather unpleasant, somewhat painful sound. In the end, it was hard to justify the money spent when it seemed to fail where these other 2 cheaper headphones had no issue. Both the Px8 and Bathys sound great. I'll miss the H95s controls and premium feel and while that 1 sound effect test was an odd thing to return them for, I simply couldn't justify keeping them with that glaring flaw. FFXIV is a game I play regularly and is one of the main activities I enjoy wearing headphones for. I like to have a few drinks, play the game, and run some music in the background. I needed headphones that could properly and pleasantly produce those sound effects, without sounding harsh to my ears. Again, while it may be a strange thing to nit pick, in my case it was an important aspect of my general use and for a pair of $900 headphones, I just couldn't tolerate it. I also tried every EQ preset on the H95s and it didn't make much difference what my EQ settings were, it just couldn't properly handle that sound effect. For most people, I think the H95s would be great. Personally, I'd recommend the Focal Bathys over them. While lacking in the looks and controls department, they provide an accurate and pleasant listening experience while saving you a couple hundred dollars. I still like your review and think the H95s do provide a unique listening experience. They have premium build quality and for the most part, sounded nice. Their controls will be sorely missed but since I don't plan on quitting FFXIV anytime soon, they didn't work for me.

Hi! I tried them on demo in store, for just for a brief minute. Obviously they're on a league of their own and come to B&O .. it's been competing with themselves till now, given they have their customers and niche , so price wise it is what it is. I wanted to ask you about the main issues other reviewers have been voicing out, mainly to do with a couple things.. weight, ( heard the Air POds Max are actually heavier) , so not for taking out on long outdoor sessions maybe , and the volume wheel being slightly off or not firm enough .. what are your thoughts on that? love em though

  • @soundsheavenly

The volume wheel isn't the firmest to touch, I tend to set this to max when listening via a cable, then it isn't an issue. I find the H95 not too heavy, just enough to keep them securely on your head - not a headphone for sports, but great for a walk outdoors (don't think I would want to risk them on a rainy day though!)

Hi I recently got the H95 and I worry a bit about how to drive them properly. I was previously using the H9 3rd Gen with a Fiio K5 Pro DAC headphone amplifier. Because the H95 cannot be used passively and rely on a ADC to convert the input line-in analog signal to digital and internally processing it back to analog, I worry that my DAC amp or even my phone could break their ADC unit. If anyone uses the Fiio K5 Pro too, is a 9 o'clock volume setting and mid amplification (around +6dB) (or no amplification at all) fine for the headphones? Regarding phone use: Should my phone's output volume be set to 100% and this output then get dialed in using the headphone's volume wheel to ensure the best signal? My phone is a ASUS ROG Phone 5s. Thanks in advance!

  • @soundsheavenly

Yes, setting the phone to the highest level that plays without distortion usually gives the clearest sound, then you can turn this down with the headphone controls to the required level. Thanks a lot, excellent review as always. I also favored open Headphones (Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic) and switched to H9i a few years back. I would switch to H95, especially with your recommendation, anytime, if B&O managed the same effortless device-transition as Apple with their AirPod Pros. I strongly dislike headphone cables (sorry, I know you are THE cable guy, I like cables for permanent installations like speakers only). So as much as I like B&O, the non-effortless switching of my 5 Apple devices (watch, phone, ipad, macbook, imac) as well as the sometime audio-hiccups from my H9i resulted in a sadly no-no for the H95 and probably will have me buying Airpods max :-(. Dear Steve, My name is Simon and I come from Germany! I am a big fan of your videos because you explain everything very precisely. At home, we have some B&O systems. Among other things, the beolab 1. I hardly find any experience reports on the internet, so I hope that you could maybe make a video about these boxes. I keep asking myself what the advantages of these boxes are compared to the penta 6611 ... The beolab 1 may look timeless, but why is the bass so incredibly weak? With a size of almost 1.90 meters you actually expect a deep, powerful bass! But there the 20 years older Penta 6611 with countless many woofers and mid-range speakers are much better and, above all, very durable. The beolab 1 broke after 2 years (normal use). The repair cost 600 euros !! We have had the Penta 6611 since 1989 and it wasn't even broken. What can you say Is it worth keeping these boxes, or were they a bad buy? So far, the beolab 1 have been the speakers with which we could hear music the loudest. Neither the Penta nor the 8000 can keep up. These get hot immediately! Is it still worth buying the new beolab 20 or 18 if you like to hear loud disco-pop from the 80s / 90s? Or do they break even after 2 years? And are these boxes loud enough for a large party room? Warm greetings from Germany and a Merry Christmas! Simon

Hi Simon, many thanks for your kind words! I have always preferred the sound of Beolab Penta to Beolab 1, they both give a very different sound. Penta seems warm and deep, while Beolab 1 often lacks bass in comparison. I think that some owners have adjusted their Beolab 1s to give more bass, but I still prefer the sound of the Pentas. However, Beolab 1 can go very loud, as you have found! I hope to be able to make a review of Beolab 1 vs. Penta in the new year. Also wishing you a Merry Christmas!

Apart from the ground-breaking & visually stunning masterpiece the original was, it's one of my ALL-TIME favourite movies & need to listen to it at high volume to experience the atmosphere & the detailed character. That's why I can only watch it when I'm home alone without any, "It's so loud!", comments or, "Can you turn it down!" preceding the slamming of bedroom doors! LOL One of Hans Zimmer's best I think....(but then there's INTERSTELLAR, we could go on & on)... Anyway, I am a fan of the B&O sound & have: E8 Mk 1, E8 Mk 3 (only worn a few times), H8 Mk1, H9 Mk 3 (only worn a few times) and was "annoyed" when these were released, as I wanted "1 pair to rule them all!". So, I too am thinking of selling all my others to fund these. So am thinking if we have similar taste in music/movies & you're raving about them, then they must be good... Only problem is not the price but the crazy price discrepancy: £700, €800, $800USD, $1399AUD (checked with local store), seems the cheapest place to buy the from is the US. Any ideas? Cheers

Was interested in these, but they are still over 1100$ USD in my country despite being 2 years old. Even in the states they still start at $850. Seriously? You could buy 3 different competing ANC headphones for the same price, or premium level cabled headphone. There is no way they could have the detail and resolution of such wired headphones, so why so expensive? Unreal...

As with any high-end product, you REALLY do need to experience it for yourself before making a value judgement. Here is my own view: No, they aren't cheap. Yes, they are worth the money if you can afford them. You won't know for yourself until you have placed them on your head and played some music.

Yes, there are some great headphone out there, so impressive to see that B&O can get right to the top of the wireless headphone game. I also keep both open (Sennheiser) and closed (B&O) headphones as the sound is very different - each is well suited to a different listening situation.

I had tried the H95 and returned it just before the Apple Airpod Max announcement and returned. FYI. the ANC is very weak on the B&O H95. The H95 is relatively good but the price of the H95 is not right. It should actually be priced near the Apple Airpod Max.

@@soundsheavenly I got the Airpod Max. I think that the H95 is actually good. But playing Ólafur Arnalds - Ljósi∂ sample from www.whathifi.com/us/features/10-best-tracks-to-test-your-headphones it really can't bring out the subtlety like my IEM 846 with bluetooth does. Of course they are totally different beast but deep down, it's a thorn. Just tried the Airpods Max. it can't do it either. But at least it's cheaper. Between Airpods Max and H95, H95 wins in a way that it's more flat sound than the Max. But Max is close. Comfort wise, the H95 is better.

Hi, I think you may have a fault with your headphones? H95 usually has very good ANC, with good cancellation at all frequencies. I suggest contacting B&O for advice via the support section of their website so that they can look into this for you.
