Just wanted to thank you for the video, exactly the same problem I just experienced with the bandit I just got that's been sitting for a few years. You saved me lots of troubleshooting time and headache.

Good to know. You are obviously very knowledgable. I just dabble and sometimes get it right on the first try. Had a problem not being able to disengaging the clutch before, so I could not find neutral when warmed up and it pulled at redlights. I changed the fluid that was very old, cleaned the master cylinder from gunk, without taking it apart (I'm lazy), made sure no air in the master cylinder first, then the slave cylinder. Problems solved. Now it slips past 7000rpm on wide open throttle, bought new clutch discs, spring discs throw-out bearing etc and was expecting it to solve the problem. - But after watching this video, it won't hurt to check that return hole first...

Yes I went through it All. That little tiny return hole was the whole problem

Thanks for the video. I'll check mine tomorrow as the clutch is slipping on my b12 too! I noticed today while I was changing the lever that the rubber was shot and there was a squishy sound coming for it so it's worth rebuilding it anyway.

Thanks for that. I've the same problem on my 2003 model and shall look in to the master cylinder before I buy, possibly un required, clutch plates.

I have a '01 Bandit 1200S and have done the mods you talk about. I do the Japanese slow Ghatana riding as well, so clutch is paramount.

great video! mine is doing that too. Engagement point is pretty far out and slips under heavy acceleration. I'm going to check out that little port before I pull my system apart and replace the friction plates and springs.

Yes, clutch is perfect now. I would have saved alot of work had I looked at the master cylinder first, but at least now I know what shape the whole system is in.

Good to know! Thanks! According to the Haynes manual the same thing can happen if you over-fill the fluid reservoir. (Also, old fluid that has water in it will expand under heat causing same thing…)

Thanks from me too!!!! I have the exact same problem and now know the solution. Took the wife out for a ride today and had to stop to let fluid out of the slave cylinder to get her back home.

I just an identical red 98' bandit1200 2 months ago, how many miles dose that b12 have? mine has 40k. my clutch has seemingly always released late, but now it is slipping when I do a full throttle-ish launch from a dead stop, it never used to slip like this before, but dose now.. I was about to put some new clutch plates in thinking they are just worn out now( since I always can't help doing a full throttle launch from stop lights, prolly 3-5 times a ride a every week day) do you think I should not just replace my plates? and look at what you did in this vid on mine??? thanks.

it's a lot easier to check the master cylinder, plus it would be good to change the fluid any way

Very common problem... unfortunately not the only source of slipping clutch.

What are the specs on how tight the bolts for starter gear cover (torque) should be ?

I just got my bandit back from the shop, it's a 2001 bandit 1200 and I'm still not getting any power throughout the gears, it seems like it's in neutral after about 2 miles of easy riding so I have to find a place to park it and go home to get a trailer. I'm pretty sure it's the clutch but idk this is my first bike.
