BtW when it comes to sand paper there's a big difference between 60 and 80 grit. If you have spent so!e real time in a shop working with sand paper you would know. Also your Comparison test you did to see what one sanded through the metal the fastest was worthless complete waste and doesn't show anything other then the electric one may spin the belt.a little faster. That doesn't show or prove that one is better then the the other. Its basically saying because the harbor freight one is fast its better. Sanding is nor just about sanding away as much material as fast as.your.can. if you think that then stop making shirty videos and go.sand.a block on concrete.

Again, I'm not sure why I'm wasting my time responding to gate-keeping shit like this, but here we are. First of all, I literally said in the video, which tool you choose is "up to your personal preference" depending on the pros and cons of each tool, I never said the HF unit was better because it's faster. But also, you calling this test a "worthless complete waste" is like saying, how fast a car is not an indicator of a good car. And yet you see 0-60 times in reviews all the time. Why is that Tommy? Look, I'm clearly using it to remove spot welds, in which case, speed IS very important. If you "spent some real time" working on a old car trying to remove hundreds of spot welds, you'd know that. But you're 100% right, sanding isn't just about removing as much material as fast as possible, fair point. This is just a simple test that was geared towards viewers of my channels who will most likely use it in the same ways I do. But I maintain that the test is not a "worthless complete waste" because how FAST it can work is a limitation of the tool itself. In another words, YOU can make it go slower or be more refined based on how YOU handle the tool, what grit of sand paper you use, and how much pressure you apply; but you cannot make the tool be more powerful than it was designed for. I'm pinning this comment so I don't feel like I wasted my time. You do raise a good point, I just think you're being an unnecessary asshole for reasons I can't comprehend.

Tommy Madux- Did you really expect someone to read your shitty reply and think “Man, I’m so glad this guy took the time to compose his thoughts and share his wisdom.” I don’t know you, and I’m embarrassed for you for leaving a comment like this.

By the looks of it the locking button is for locking out to change discs. I’d say they used a generic disc grinder for the body and made a belt sander attachment

Thanks for the comparison, I’ve got both (and cheap replacement belts) in the “cart” at the different suppliers. Going to go find the 3M paper, and go with the HF tool. Thanks again, and thanks for the advice on the belts.

Some great points to consider! Would you say the adjustable head is a must have feature? How often do you find yourself changing the angle?

The 40$ one is a "felx" or an angle grinder with the belt sander adaptor and the locking butten is used to change the grinding or cutting disk. I like to see it without the adaptor, it should be removed with the 4 bolts that you need to fasten.

The reason for that unlabeled button is that this sander is pretty much an angle grinder with a special attachment. That button locks the grinder to change disks.

the harbor freight one has a rubber bearing on the end and it melts after a while doing spot welds so purchase the extended warranty .

I am not at all surprised that the air tool is slower. The electric tool has more power and grinding requires power. You can hear the air tool slowing down when grinding. Air tools are popular because they are smaller and lighter. Would be interesting to compare the Harbor Freight Bandfile with the Makita 9032. The Makita seems to be a high quality tool but it has an odd belt size (533x9mm) - 3M only make two grids.

Do you have high flow ends on your hoses ? They're required for some air hungry tools to run their best.

Why not just replace the allen screw on the Horror Fright unit with something else, like a thumb screw? Modified HF is the way to go. Maybe the highest speed setting isn’t the fastest for the air powered tool?

+1 on the cubitron belts. Not only do they work quicker, they last about 10X longer than cheapy belts.

as much as the harbor freight does do it faster due to the electric torque my shop has a 150psi air compressor pump to deliver consistent 90psi to the astro tool so itl work allot better but I just prefer air tools cause no over heating issues from long use from electrical and if used correctly from how much pressure u apply to the tool to sand itl do just as good for 24 seconds a spot weld, plus it will last way longer and that's more valuable to me in the long run.

  • @chrisp7277

90PSI would be what's in the tool, not static line pressure. You usually need 112-118psi to see 90PSI in a tool while its running.

Yup, I set my regulator at the compressor to 120 psi, it drops to about 90 psi when thr sander is in use.

@@RestorationForBeginners the two Things that would still contribute ist that even If Line pressure going in is at 90 during use. It would have dropped in the way to the Tool through the cupplings. Also I would Bet that your compressor will have dropped ita Line pressure from say 150 to 100 during that 40 seconds. These Tools really need alot of air^^
