Hi Venus, You know I have commented on the heat issue before. I was also at the American Dream / Nickelodeon Theme Park show in New Jersey where Kanami had gone back stage and (the follow word is only used because of a lack of better terminology) collapsed. It was during Omaji time and Kanami had stepped off stage and into the back to rest and cool down. This back stage footage is in the US Tour Doc. that is part of the extra special edition of the TGT Okyuji set. Being out in the audience we had no clue as to what was going on. The rest of the band had no clue what was going on.Akane eventually went back stage and found Kanami face down on the table and sweating profusely. Akane tried several different things to cool her friend and band mate down (see the documentary). Mean while on stage time was passing quickly and Miku, Saiki and Misa still had no clue what was going on back stage. I believe it was Misa that went back stage and returned to say that she was "sleeping". This whole event has become a huge focal point for the fans, especially AFTER the documentary was released. It is a very scary scene that unfolds in front of the cameras and having been at that show and now seeing the BTS footage it was even more heart breaking. Fans around the world are asking them to watch over Kanami and other members alike to make sure that this does not happen again. There has been talk of Kanami drinking TOO many energy drinks and that having an effect on her. We as fans also know that this band of talented musicians put on an all out show, no matter the environment. Several things can be done to help them. Have larger fans on stage to move air around a lot more. Provide better cooling solutions (i.e., cold damp towels on stage, cold water (not ice cold as it has been proven that having an "ice cold" beverage, including water can actually increase the bodies temp and make the person "sicker".). Maybe the costume designer(s) can look into different lighter materials for the outfits without changing the over all design. Most importantly we as fans need to let the band know that we are okay with them needing a break to cool down. After all they provide so much entertainment and joy for us, we owe it to them to have the ability to take care of themselves - physically, mentally, and emotionally.

i am a mailman here in the States. I have to deal with heat all the time. I'm not a doctor, but what I saw with Mincho was classic of too much caffeine and too much heat. Caffeine will dehydrate you and can wreck you physically. Excessive sweating is a bad sign. I hope someone advises our dear sweet Mincho to back off the coffee and Red Bulls and instead drink more water, fruit juice and Gatorade or Powerade. Once heat related illness starts to kick in, it's Hell to play catch up. Trust me, I know! Even though it was October here in the States, if it was hotter than they were used to, it could be a factor, especially with excess caffeine use. All of your suggestions near the end of your post sound like good ideas. We Maidiacs love these women and we want them to be healthy and happy. Maybe a 10 minute break in the middle would be a good thing. They could cool off and rehydrate and we could all go take a leak! LOL!

Frankly, for all the shows Band-Maid has done during the summer over the years I'm surprised they haven't had to address heat issues before now. I'm no doctor or nutritionist but maybe the Maids need to hire some of these specialists for their support team. Maybe to the point of making these specialists are like their personal doctors so their intimantly aware of each Maid's body's systems and limitations and can make medical and lifestyle recommendations, Yes, maybe the maid outfits need to be lighter weight materials (like a lighter weight cotton). And sorry Maids, maybe it's time to spend more time in the gym and less time getting drinks at the bars. A lot of drinking in the summer heat is not good for you! Please Band-Maid! Treat your bodies like fine instruments and athletes! We fans want you around!

Maybe the Maids need to take a hard and sober (accidental pun) look at their professional and private lives as performers. Even though I'm not a musician, over 11 years ago I had to make hard life decisions about my drinking and my health or continue to live a lifestyle where I was ultimately killing myself. Kanami is fully covered from her outfit, Saiki is wearing all black (which absorbs the heat) Misa is wearing all black AND fully covered. Plus if she's drinking alcohol that would cause her to dehydrate and overheat more.

I got my undergraduate degree at UC Davis, just outside of Sacramento. 100-degrees F is NOT unusual for the Valley. And no, you don't get used to it. I can remember SCANDAL's 10th Anniversary gig in Osaka. It was outdoors and it was 37C when they started playing. Haruna nearly passed out twice. Playing outdoors in the Summer is awful.

I think there were several factors at play, and it turned into a perfect storm of dangerous conditions. For one, they crammed a lot of shows into only one month's time (averaging only one day off between each show), a work schedule they hadn't seen since before COVID. And as they mentioned in the video clip, the humid heat here can be quite a bit more stifling than the kind of heat they are used to in Japan. On top of all that, the US was in the midst of an unusual and unexpected heat wave in the Fall of 2022, when our bodies are usually starting to get accustomed to cooler temperatures, so performing at a high level in that kind of unseasonal heat can be very daunting!

  • @ArchieBC

One final note: While tracking set lists for the TAT, particularly for the Arabaki festival, I ran across a photo of the group that was purported to have been taken at Arabaki. Was it this year or from past appearances? I can't say, but... Kanami was holding an ice-bag on her head! They were standing in front of a log cabin doorway, mugging about, poking and teasing each other. Kanami had a big ice water bag on top of her head, but otherwise she was all smiles, as were the others.

Agree!! If the ladies need a break, i say let them have a break. Temperatures in Texas can get awful at times. As they just performed in Austin & under lights that can be a bit much. Their tour management needs to do better job, keeping the ladies cool. You shouldn't have to suffer when ladies are giving so much of themselves. Maybe some night outdoor shows could help with that here. At least install some misting fans or something. To bad some designer couldn't make them some climate appropriate maid outfits. So they can at least breathe while on stage. Stay cool ladies!! 🤘🦊💕

The May dates SHOULD be OK as far as heat is concerned, BUT they'll be starting off in the Southern states and the Rockville festival is at Daytona, Florida and it might get hot. It will be Memorial Day weekend by the time they get to outdoor festivals in Ohio and Missouri. Weather in the Midwest can be unpredictable and I will bet on a high level of humidity that will make it unpleasant if temperatures go into the Eighties. I hope the air conditioning at St Andrews Hall works! Then they'll be back at Lollapalooza on August 4th. August in the Midwest is ALWAYS hot and humid.

It's true. Heat is a problem. Not as much these days with LED lighting. However, even with fans on stage, if it's just blowing hot air it's not much relief. A larger problem would be the road in winter. It's okay to tour southern states in the colder months, but roads up north sometimes become impassable and or dangerous.

Black and layered clothing in Daytona OMG! At least I think Akane's back is covered by thin fabric so she can shed heat especially in front of a fan. (American) football players and other people doing exertion in heat-holding clothing and/or hot temperatures (hockey, some theater costumes, some extreme sports) have cooling techniques which maybe the Maids could use. Even a Black&Decker Comfortpak would be worth a try and there are probably more-serious versions.

@Beth Ma Yep, I'm sure at least she described it as anemia, (not heat stroke) in an interview. Although they said that "Black Cat-chan" made them feel very comfortable compared to previous overseas tours, it was the first time they had toured overseas for such a long time. Also, in Japan they had the experience of playing over 100 shows a year in one year, but the schedule was very tight, especially with the additional shows in the final stages. Of course, differences in climate and their usual diet, as well as long-distance travel, including from west to east, may also have had an influence. However, apart from Aftershock Fest, I do not know if the environment was particularly bad (hot) at the shows in question (it's true that Akane took care of Kanami with icing, though). Besides, the Fest was at the beginning of the tour, but towards the end she seems to have been unwell.

It's them who come up with their costumes and choose how they should look and how they are, if they feel bothered by it, they will change it, they don't have "costume designers" so no need for management or anyone to be involved. No need to be so overprotective of them, they are adults with plenty of decision making over their choices and their career and if anything was problematic for them they would've been the first to want to change it. The heat problem is often more prominent in Europe where venues have little to no air conditioning (needing to use fans to cool the band members), I've seen a lot of japanese bands who toured in Europe in spring or summer season being drenched in sweat, I've been to the Europe Galneryus concert and at one point it was so hot that Syu (the guitarist) just went shirtless to play the rest of the concert which he never does ever lol. In Summer Tokyo can get as hot or even hotter but venues there are generally pretty well made and from what I've seen and artists there don't seem bothered that much. I'm not sure how things are in the USA. The first clip was from an outdoor festival so it's normal but if it happens even in closed venues then it's a problem

Okay, I don't want to be that guy because I love this band but...A go fund me to buy them a portable AC? Guys these girls are professional musicians and Band Maid is a successful business. If they need special equipment they will buy it. If they want a doctor on site they will have it. I'm sure they will learn from past mistakes and make adjustments. Do you think the band or management would send them on a tour they thought would make them sick or couldn't finish? Do you think the band members want to see one or more of them or even the roadies and crew get sick? That isn't good for anyone. I mean, every other band at these festivals are playing under the same conditions. This over protection of Band Maid can be a bit creepy. We are fans, not their moms and dads or in most cases grandparents. Should we start a go fund me for Slipknot? I almost forgot what made me make this post lol I got heat exhaustion (in Florida) which is probably what Kamami had. If she had heat stroke she would not have been able to go back out there. It's awful, my body could not stop sweating, I was exhausted and I was vomiting. I could not cool down, I had never experienced anything like it. I don't wish it on anyone BUT it happened because I was out all day in Key West and wasn't drinking any water. It's an easy fix drink water. I do agree that lighter outfits would be better but I'm sure Band-Maid and their team know what they are doing. Let's try and take a step back and act like normal fans. We are quick to acknowledge that these women are talented and beautiful but we seem to forget that they are intelligent adults. Being in a successful band for 10 years is not just luck. They are smart and I'm sure they surround themselves with smart people.

Aren't we over dramatizing some of this stuff I mean. Doesn't it get hot in Japan ? I love with these five phenomenally talented incredible musicians do. But sometimes I think some of this stuff is a little bit manufactured and fabricated. Just for clicks and the like. At times it seems creepy. For so many middle-aged men. In many instances and not all. To be so wrapped up in these women. Yes I think they're the best band that's come along in decades. Anywhere on the planet, male or female. And I was fortunate to see them last October in New York City here in the States. But sometimes this stuff is to me a little over the top. And yes even borderline creepy. Not that anyone really gives a flying you know what. But just to see so many people it seems. Spending every moment of every day worshiping these women. They're human beings their great musicians and they are in a great rock band. Can we leave it at that ?

I was busier than ever during the pandemic so this doesn't apply to me. Band Maid has been a great tonic to so many. Have some gone overboard ? Have some focused WAY too much time on healthy pursuits to the point of making them unhealthy ? Maybe so... Maybe some are still trying to find their way back to a new normal . I give everyone as much space as they need to sort things out . Water is wet...ice is cold...hot can be many things to different people... It's not a pressing topic but it's still one that may give people pause to consider how it affects people they don't know personally but still care about.

Hi Chuck, your points here are valid like the middle aged men. I’m 48 so when most of the Band-Maid members were born I was in senior high or university freshman. Maybe the focus on them is like some of us here who see the ladies as their offspring. Some of us feel like pseudo parents who are proud of what they’ve achieved in 10 years, and like parents we care about their welfare. If they’re not healthy enough then that would affect their performing ability and that would hurt their standing and reputation. I really do think that’s what the majority of the maidiacs are like. If there are any creeps they would be just a few. I think some of just are eager to know the happenings and developments with our ladies. We are genuinely concerned, but certainly we won’t overstep our bounds to the point of being obsessive. We’re simply just happy that these ladies came into existence and saved rock for us!☺️🕊️🤘🏻🤘🏻
