Miku, rhythm guitarist/vocals/lyricist founded Band Maid after working at a maid cafe for about 3 yrs, singing songs to people’s food! She thought the difference between cute maid clothes and cool rock music would be an enjoyable shock to audiences. Then she began learning how to play guitar from her own guitarist that SHE’D recruited! She’s learned how to play onstage in front of the world.💪🏻🤘🏻

It is a never ending well of talent in Japan. BandMaid drew me In A year ago. I’m still running across Japanese bands that blow me away. And most of them are all girl bands. I’d totally move to Japan if I wasn’t an old man, married and had so many responsibilities.

"Take Me Higher" was the first song I heard from them this summer. I liked them so much that I got tickets to their concert in NYC this past Friday at Mercury Lounge. It was awesome! Was close to stage on right side (Kanami's side) my right ear took two days to recover from how loud it was. Well worth it. I even got a high five from MISA and Kanami when they came off the stage at end of show.

And l am here to co-sign what Dave said. I was only there Monday night but l can confirm this: they are a band that has to be seen live to fully appreciate them. They feed off audience response and interaction and play very well to it. The audience Monday night at the Echoplex was aces in that respect. They are constantly reworking and tweaking intros and other aspects of established Band-Maid tunes. This means they are never satisfied and also why live is the way to go. One exception, IMO, is Screaming because the studio release triple tracks Akane's double pump bass. I have said it before and l will say it again. Band-Maid is the very best hard rock band on the planet today. There ain't no one else close.

5 shows, 2 in New York, 1 here in Dallas and 2 in L.A. The last show is tonight. But they didn't play the Big Hall at House Of Blues. They were in the Cambridge Room, which was a mixed blessing, in that it's nice for the hardcore fans to have them in an intimate club setting. However, you don't get all the stuff that comes with a big show. But the more fame they get the less chance of them playing the smaller venues. And they are gaining popularity. One guy I talked to at the show had seen them in London and was going to fly to L.A. for the second show. You're right about Akane "The Beast". She kept the energy level up for two solid hours, only surpassed by me, old geezer that I'm getting to be, standing, flat footed, in the same spot for three solid hours after the Meet & Greet.

They were fantastic on Friday. Talking to a barman in a bar across the street the next day, he said he'd never seen a queue like that for the Mercury Lounge. BTW, I don't know if you've listened to any of their songs without reacting, but don't worry about having to pace yourself with reactions. They are not one of those bands that have half a dozen big songs and they recent are just "good". They have another 20-25 songs like this. They play a full two hour set, all great songs - some of which aren't even on albums - and it's not until long after it's finished that you realise that there are several songs you'd regard as bigger songs that didn't even make the setlist.

The Japanese bands do much fancier shows in Japan simply because of logistics. Band-Maid brought their instruments and pedal boards to the US but rented the amps here. None of these bands you've listened to fill stadiums in Japan (except for Babymetal). Zepp Tokyo, which I think this video is from, holds 5000. Band-Maid's US venues on this trip are small, even tiny, the biggest by far is the Echoplex in LA which holds 780.

The scary thing is they came close to breaking up, but one day checking KZread they discovered the that their MV Thrill had 3 million views. They checked to see if if it had been hacked, it wasn't. They realized they had an audience and now they sell out on tour here in the US and Europe. Jimmy Page saw them in concert and went back stage to meet Akane telling her she is the best drummer he had heard since John Bonham and insisted on a selfie with her! They're not huge in Japan, and if you ask Japanese people if they're familiar with Band-Maid, most of them will tell you they aren't. However, that's not really so different from here. Ask the average person on the street if they're familiar with Halestorm, and they'll likely say no. Reason being, the stuff that's really big these days is a lot of canned beats and autotuned voices, that sort of urban rap/hip-hop/rnb boy band and pop girl stuff. Drake and Justin and the Britneys and Ashleys and all that, and Japan's pretty much the same for the most part. Idol groups are big, singers like Utada Hikaru who's in the same vein as Christina Aguilera and that sort of thing. You know, great singers, but it's not "rock" by any stretch. Band-Maid are up and coming and they do chart and they sell out their shows in Japan, but they're not selling out stadiums like 80s rock bands did, they're selling out clubs. For now.

But it hit me ... I think you are mixing up Band Maid MISA the bassist, with Misa the guitarist... You can see guitarist Misa on the left in thisnlice video (mv) by Bridear - Thread of the Light from their first album I think... kzread.info/dash/bejne/epib0rx6gcSpmbg.html If I remember Misa (left) and Mitsuru (right) were the two "original" guitarists. (Quotes because I think Mitsuru was the last to join the band after it had formed a tear earlier). Misa was there like 5 years and left over "artistic" differences. And at the end of 2018 (?) Mitsuru announced she was leaving for the same reasons. I think most were hoping tgey would reunite in a new band but it hasn't happened... and I don't think they announced Mitsuru's replacement yet. Apparently the first two albums were heavily riff driven as you can see in the video, but I guess they've been drifting away from that which led to the artistic friction...something like that. .
