MISA is one of the greatest bassists of all time. I am so glad that she stayed with Band-Maid. It is difficult, nay impossible, to contemplate Band-Maid existing without these five extremely talented ladies, who make the very best music. Thank you, Miku, for starting this band. If you want to know what I think about Misa as a bassist, the song that captured me for Band-Maid was "Onset." Right off the bat, the first thing I noticed was the drumming - it was distinctive, greatly contributing to the song and not just marking time. I yelled (literally), "My god it's Bonham!" So, I kept listening, concentrating on the drums. But gradually the bass started to creep into my attention, with all the fills and melodic elements. So, I switched to concentrating on the bass line and I eventually realized she's like John Entwistle, playing a song within the song. But then the bass solo happened and I further realized that, if she wants to play the actual melodic lead, she's perfectly capable of it. So, that for me says "Chris Squire." If you go back and listen to the early Beatles' music, Paul only played under the drums, simply anchoring the tune. But, sometime in the mid '60's, Paul heard James Jamerson, a Motown bassist who played very melodic bass lines, and Paul immediately switched to doing the same. It seems Misa was there right from the beginning.

Hi. I’m a Japanese who speak broken American English. I add some more information about her decision to stay in Band-Maid. When she was thinking to leave the band, they’re scheduled to perform at Sakura-Con in Seattle. Her manager advised her that she goes to Seattle and decide if she leaves or not. And she went Seattle and she was surprised by the fact that about 2000 audience were waiting for BM. They never have played in front of that much of audience. She thought that this band has a future and decided to stay in the band.

Well worth the wait. The Maid that likes to keep away from the limelight is now often forced to the front. She is a remarkable player and it is no accident that her playing style just manages to compliment every song they play. There has never been a Band who have gone out of their way to highlight the bass. I am sure other bands now do the same because of MISA and The Maids. We don't all have the timing and luck to meet the right people. Thankfully for us all MISA and Band Maid did.

MISA looks cool and scarry at the same time, untouchable onstage in the appearance & playing. BAND-MAID assembled in the perfect timing and perfect members. Eventhough they are really difference personaliies and appearance they seems really get a long together and compliment each others. Even their footwares and hair style are difference 😄 That's why Miku said it's KISEKI, miracle, they got together in one band. Some of my favorite MISA time are in the Manmers, call and response with Kanami in Don"t you tell me, tapping in Clang, and her sliding notes at Blooming which is so tanderous even live recorded at smartphone in US Tour 2022. I hope MISA will tapping again with Kanami in the music festivals they will perform, so that thousand jaws will drop 😄 Great documentary, btw.

During the US tour, MISA didn't have the whiskey, just beer. I thought maybe this was because she was backing off for health reasons, but then I saw she was back to the whiskey at Tokyo Garden Theater. I'm guessing the thing during the US tour was wanting to try the local beers of the different states they visited.

Wonderful video, I can't help but think that it has to be fate from how this band formed and it formed at the perfect time. I'm also so glad MISA decided to not quit Band Maid. If that happened I don't think the band would sound anywhere close to how they sound now. I never knew she grew up listening to RHCP (she's definitely the Japanese female version of Flea lol) and that's a huge W. I also agree with Saiki's take on MISA being a "cool beauty" as MISA said herself she wants to be known as "cool" and she definitely earned it. She's so talented, beautiful, and hardworking. Her and the ladies are inspirations and role models to me and when she makes her signature bass I'll be the first to buy it. Can't wait to see them live again in America this year. Love you MISA ❤️ love you Band Maid ❤️ thank you for the music and thank you for existing ❤️

Wow! Misa has stood out, to me, for the reasons you stated during the video, but also because, based on my experience listening to another bassist (Geddy Lee - Rush), her bass lines are creative and flow with the music. Band-Maid has been - captivating - gaining my attention with the quality of their music. And, my heart by their interaction as a band of Friends (as seen in various photos) who love music so much that they put extra effort and attention into composing their music for their Masters and Princesses.

As a long term Rush fan also, Misa is the first bassist in a long time to give me as much joy as listening to Geddy. She has the same attack and great tone coupled with his knack for playing exactly what works for the song while also adding fantastic flourishes. It's almost prophetic that Misa was rising to the fore while Geddy was sadly not active any more due to the loss of Neil Peart and the closing of Rush' great career.

For me, Misa's standout quality is the great chemistry she has with members of the band. Of course she has the skills of a technically proficient bassist, as do many other fine bassists; I definitely get strong John Entwistle, Chris Squire and Geddy Lee vibes from her playing. She has slap-bass peers in the J-Rock scene, notably Koga of Gacharic Spin and Fami of Love Bites, but Misa's chief asset is to craft a line that moves flawlessly among her various techniques to support what the others are doing.

I have begun comparing every bassist I hear, to Misa. I just watched the Lovebites bass audition documentary. I would have chosen Fami too. Not only because she is talented, but because she has mastered many different bass techniques, and demonstrates a melodic creativity in her own material. I commented that, if they allowed her to be herself, she would become a Misa like bassist, able to elevate Lovebites to an even higher level of melodic bliss. In my mind, comparing future Fami to present Misa, was the absolute highest compliment I could give. Misa is the standard all other bassist, male, female, old school or new, should be judged. Then again, what do I know. I was only a touring guitarist for 15 years, a producer/songwriter/ engineer, for another 25. So, I guess I wouldn't know a good bassist if their bass fell from the sky and hit me in the head! The truth is, I've never been one to blow smoke up anyone's butt whole. I have a reputation for being brutally honest about musical matters. "Anyone" would be hard pressed to find a better rock-n-roll bassist, than beautiful Ms. Misa. Band Maid got the cream of the crop!

And she dotes on her half-sister; her parents divorced when she was young. Only member whose parents are still together is Kanami. There are other amazing female bassists from Japan like F-chopper Koga of Gacharic Spin and Fami of Lovebites. But, Misa stands supreme for me. Just like you said, I do compare all the other bassists to MISA.

Thank you for a wonderful documentary video of MISA!💕MISA!💕MISA!💕 I'd like to make two corrections, however: 1. MISA was thinking about quitting before their first one-man Okyu-ji, not after one or two one-man Okyujis. They performed several live shows as a part of events or with other bands before. So the manager told MISA to wait till she experienced their first one-man Okyuji, i.e., performing in front of THEIR fans . 2. Akane is not a drinker. She can drink a glass of beer, but that's about it, probably. Miku once said that it was amazing that Akane could stay cheerful for the whole night without drinking any alcohol while MISA, Saiki, and Miku kept drinking. Someone please correct me if my memory was incorrect🙏

I was glad to hear that Misa recognized she needed to moderate alcohol. As a 75 year old life time rock music fan, I've seen far too many great musicians self destruct with alcohol and drugs. Indeed, Eric Clapton's "Crossroads" concerts are to help people overcome substance. Misa is so beautiful, talented, adorable, I hope and pray she remains healthy, vibrant, with extended life. Band Maid is great, one of best bands of all time. They're so close knit, I hope Band Maid remains together for many years to come. Misa is invaluable to the band's sound and success. People ask me why I just listen to Band-Maid for the last three years and I tell them because I don't have time to REALLY listen to anything else. These girls are so good I have to break the song down first, then break down each members part and that takes time. I still find little things I never heard from the last year of listening. I'm in the MISA bass breakdown stage now so this is perfect timing and she is simple amazing as a writer and musician.....I can't praise her enough.

Misa does get some spotlights for sure. I LOVE Thrill and that Bass solo is the bomb. That intro to Dice is fantastic as well. Band-Maid works so well because every part of the band is an equal part. But the sum of all the parts is more than the individual parts.

Amazing video ! Love these BAND-MAID documentaries, I'm absolutely in love with this band. Everyone's complimenting Misa's playing which is definitely deserved so I won't add on that, but her tone ! Her bass tone always sounds so damn good ! I love it !

Thank you once again Ohrenje and Kasper for a creative and insightful documentary. Not many bands have a lead bassist and I for one am grateful that I discovered them. My first exposure was, as with many others, Thrill. The bass solo was unusual for a rock band and had me instantly hooked. In this band it is really Akane and Miku as the rhythm section with Misa and Kanami as dual leads. Who does that? Only Band-Maid. Kudos to you for sharing this with the world. World Domination Po!

Super bass player. Listening to rock music for 50 years and she is the best bassist i've heard. Either side of the stage and at the back they have the best 3 core rock musicians anyone could ever want.

As for Misa's skill on bass, one need only listen to Band Maid live video performances. Misa is one of best bass players in world today, indeed, one of best of all time. I love her solos.......Wow! She's so creative, a true virtuoso. God bless her and her beloved fellow maids.

I thought this would be the hardest video to make, but you knocked it out of park. Misa got me listening to bass more. That is interesting about her accent. The zoom video the band made in 2020 where they each spoke in English to the fans. I thought Misa's spoke clearest.

*MISA IS AMAZING.... She plays so many styles, techniques flawlessly and her solos and fills are just sublime and musical.* There are many "lead" bass players, the late John Entwistle (The Who), Flea (Red Hot Chilli Peppers), Geddy Lee (Rush), Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big). MISA is a not to be directly compared but she is a lead bass in her own right, unique and carved out her own sound and style. I love the progressive rock or Jazz song structures of Band-Maid songs, many instrumentals, and each member takes a solo, ala Jazz clichés. This appeals to music fans and musicians.

Great video. I love history videos. And it was a great video. I very rarely hear bass from different bands. But with BAND-MAID, I almost always hear the bass. This is wonderful. MISA is doing its best! Thank you for this documentary. Looking forward to part 5!

I hardly know how to play 4 string bass and yet after hearing Misa, she has inspired me to get a 5 string Squire bass and a 40 watt Fender bass amp so I can eventually play like her. Maybe (if I get good enough) I'll deserve to play an Orange bass amp...

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。One of the seven wonders of Band-Maid is Misa's bass playing. It clearly stands out but never disturbs the song Saiki and Miku are singing. On the contrary, I feel sometimes as if I see a 2-meter tall third singer with beautiful baritone voice singing behind the front women. At the Tokyo Garden Theater, Misa's blasting bass together with Akane's seismic drumming shook my bones and internal organs then cured my dyspepsia 😄

Not sure if this has been mentioned in the comments, but MISA is a huge fan of Paz Lenchantin (Pixies, Entrance, A Perfect Circle, etc), who's known for playing barefoot. She also got inspired by Paz's movement on stage, even getting a relic bass because of Paz's worn P-bass. She's talked about this a lot on interviews.

I didn't have much regard for bassists until Band-Maid came into my life. Most of the time, they are hidden away, hidden away in the mix and the back round of the stage......Not Misa !! Kanami has said, playfully, " I give Misa too much love. " thank you, Kanami, for recognizing greatness ! 😏❤️🎙🎸🥁😎🤘
