    This was their Christmas Covid online concert and they dressed in Christmas colors. And yes they are excellent musicians so with the acoustic version you also hear the composition of the music.

    Thanks for reacting to Band-Maid. This was at the tail end of the pandemic on Dec. 25th 2021. They wanted to do something special for their fans, so this was an on-line concert. As fitting, they decided to dress up for Christmas. They took songs from their catalog and turned into acoustic versions. The have had other concerts/performances without the maid outfit, but still pretty rare. Recently, they released a collaboration with the guitarist from "Incubus" (Mike) and release a music video where they are not wearing the maid outfits. Also, there is their alter-ego band, "Band-Maiko" - a more traditional look - see "Secret Maiko Lips" music video on their channel.

    This acoustic online okyuji was a great Christmas present from Band-Maid. You should watch the entire thing if you get a chance. The clothing rules for it were beige and red which was decided by Akane and Saiki. Akane called them reindeer colors on the accompanying commentary. One of the unexpected things that I liked about the concert was Akane playing the cajon. She said that Zildjian loaned her their top of the line cajon. I certainly hope that they let her keep it after hearing her master level performance on it.

    This was on Christmas day during the pandemic. Best gift ever. Their leader material can be hard to get your head around for sure as you mentioned just because of the density of the composition. I'd recommend starting a little bit earlier with songs like Dice and choose me. Their later more dense compositions are also fantastic but they take several listens to wrap your head around sometimes.

    This was 2 years ago, not long after they had a meeting with The Warning after their gigs in the US; they had decided to learn some English and like them Pau from The Warning decided to learn some Japanese. They have both come along now and communicate a lot better, so much so that they composed a joint song during The Warning’s visit to Japan around a month ago which will be out on Band-Maid’s new album. The Warning were very well received by the Japanese audience, they have a great fanbase over three now! Your iced coffee looks seriously delicious but jeez I would only have to look at that and I would put weight on 😂

    Band-Maid has had English in their lyrics for 11 years now. Miku as busy as she is has been learning English since 2015. Remember Kanami worked with Mike Einziger to write Bestie which Miku wrote the lyrics for in English. Miku has talked about the importance of English in their lyrics since an interview in 2015. They refuse to abandon Japanese in their lyrics, they are proud of their culture, country, and heritage. That is why only 3% of their 130+ song are entirely in English. Their lyrics in Japanese panes and English sound amazing and complement the music Kanami writes perfectly, and adds to the depth of their music. Even though Band-Maid had two sold-out concerts in Mexico City already, I hope The Warning will reciprocate and invite Band-Maid to Mexico. Maybe they can collaborate again and write a song in Spanish.

    In several interviews the Ladies refer to their maid outfits as their "Battle Armor" or "Battle Uniform". And have mentioned that they feel uncomfortable performing out of them. On the song DICE, I have a file about it explaining about how it is a call to arms, a challenge to the Hikikomori, those "Shut ins" in Japan to get out and live life. Throw the DICE and Step out into the light of day.

    Thanks, Roni! My main interest in the music, and the genius there is Kanami (lead guitar), plus all the members who contribute in their own way. Catharsis is one of my all time favorites from them. There's a studio version of it that is even better IMO. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on the differences between the two. Though not triggered, I personally disagree about the lyrics. To my tastes, they are very poetic, even given what is probably a clunky translation. Miku (rhythm, backup vocals) is the main lyricist and often includes wordplay, allusive imagery, moody interjections, and opaque references. Of course, all of these stylistic idiosyncrasies make it all a little hard to digest on a first go. I've heard several bilinguals say Miku's lyrics are brilliant; and even though I have to take their word for it, I think they're probably right.

  • @BillHallisey
    @BillHallisey17 күн бұрын

    That Roni, now for another Band-Maid song from that same on-line Christmas Okyu-ji. I suggest you listen and react to "Sayonakidori". In that official live video, only three of the Maids are performing with Akane, the drummer, and MISA, the bassist providing backing music to Miku, who is the lead vocalist during the song. The song clearly spotlights Miku's beautifully sweet voice. "Sayonakidori" means nightingale in Japanese. Miku, also the chief lyricist, translated lines from Sheakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet". During a romantic interlude between Romeo and Juliet, Juliet thinks she hears the nightingale singing which would allow them to stay together longer. Unfortunately, Romeo realizes its a lark which means the morning will arrive shortly. He tells Juliet this and proceeds to leave. The song reflects the longing and sadness from the ending of the interlude. Miku truly has a romantic and poetic soul.

    This was a very nice version indeed. Some of us who grew up with English had a hard time with the words. Yes, work to do for me too, I felt, to go back and listen to just the music, then rewind for the words again, and maybe listen again for a better sense of the whole. Thanks, Roni, for convincing me to give Band Maid a listen. I needed to because The Warning are such fans and collaborated with them. I needed to find out. And this was such a beautiful performance. (BTW, Nothing wrong with a cream mustache. Had several in my time :) )

    You will love the Acoustic Live version of Puzzle with Saiki and Kanami only. Watch it while it's still available, it has been put down once already. I understand your lirics point, listening english songs all the time I can tell you how laim is English compare to French. Therefore there is no way that CC, that is basically a word for word translation can capture the poetic licence of Japanese. ut like most of the none Native English speakers we are used to listen songs without paying attention to the lirycs, just consider the voice as an other instrument. That why I never put CC when I listen Band Maid, it's distracting for no benefit. Final point, you need to listen more of Band Maid to realsie that they pay close attention to highlight every member of the group. You have song more bass oriented like Manners or Shambles, more Guitard oriented like most of them, hahaha, and some where Saiki is killing it, like the previously mentioned Puzzle acoustic, but also the last Live version of Endless story, last song of a 4 hours show and her voice is absolutely incredible. They are by far, one of the most creative and talented musicians on the Rock scene today, and they deserve more that 1 reaction every 6 months, you have more than 120 songs to go through.

If an artist releases their art copyright free, that's kind of them to do, but when people take advantage for personal gain... I can see how this whole thing can be problematic.
