The BLJ is from Super Mario 64 (1996), a videogame on the Nintendo 64. A normal long jump causes Mario's horizontal speed to multiply by 3.5. After he lands on the ground, a drag effect happens which slows Mario down. However, if that drag effect is interrupted, interesting stuff happens. Since there isn't a limit to backwards speed, Mario just speeds up horrifically fast backwards. This can be done by backwards long jumping on slopes, stairs, elevators and tight ceilings.
