Banana Bike Resurrection: Raleigh Team Banana Vintage Bike To Fixie
Ойын-сауық
This time round its the Raleigh Team Banana, I got it in OK condition, the paint work was still good but the stickers had some tears and scuffs and most of the parts were rusty and broken.
I love the simplicity of fixie bikes and this a great looking frame, so with some new fixie wheels, bars, cranks and a full strip down clean and restoration its now ready to go.

i was sad when you took off the original stikers, and then got hyped up when you used a waaay better ones as a replace!! amazing job!
Masterful Video...👌 Masterful Resto...👌 Kept all originality of and character of bike yet simplified it...👍
This video is thing of beauty. I'm was thinking about doing a restore of Team Raleigh Banana bike and viewing this has made up my mind. Thanks Josh for the inspiration.
Dope paint job
Beautiful video and edition with those stop-motion
Pro tip: glue a couple pieces of old tube (cut to fit) to your wire snips so you never have to worry about dinging a frame. If working on a classic you never want to hear a ping lol. Little tip a master showed me
*Looked at a lot of options for getting my **Latest.Bike** . Great find in SAVA. Super light, nice components, really good value as it comes with many options only found in much higher priced bikes.*
is it just me or was the bike in perfect shape before the "restoration" lol

You have to let go of your posessions in order to achieve inner peace. And when I say posessions I actually mean gears ang gunk

Yeah this thing was too nice to be converted into a fixie.... Why go through all that trouble instead of buying a frame

He cleaned it up and looks nice and ready to be ridden. The beauty of conversions is that you can change them back.
What a desecration of a beautiful bike.
looks so nice, at end. I had same frame, and all orginal since 1989... my first bike.
This is just freaking cool. Editing game on point too ✌️ Awesome!
Excellent work. Good video editing and the stop motion was brill

Beautiful job 👍🏻
I follow a lot of bike restoration channels... 🤔 I think you're one of the best. Especially since you don't re paint the bikes unnecessarily.
Had one of those for Christmas got a pair of Levi jeans stuck in the wheel going down a large hill stopped me instantly went over the handlebars bent the forks backwards because I stopped that quick and ripped my ear off . Swapped it for a Commodore 64 😂😂 Without the help of Noel Edmonds
Great video! Awesome edditing!
I have never thought of leaving the shifters on the bike after converting it XD
love this
Hallo mate, it is safe to skidz with that dropout? Thanks for video ✌️
I’ve just converted mine back from fixie (when I got it) to gears.
This video is amazing

Nice ❤ , 😂 oh , i would have kept the fenders
Fantastic job Josh. Could you tell me the make of pedals you used please? They look really well on that bike and I'd like to get some for my fixie too

Hey, they were just black cheap eBay pedals, think they were £6
Ficou linda! 🖤💛
I wish I have your telekinetic powers... JK. Nicely done!
Wow. Amazing video, I did almost turn it off when you removed the original stickers though. However, the replacements are stunning - where did you get them? I'd love to redo the ones on my team banana

eBay, and there’s a few sites if you search bicycle decals. Thanks for watching!
FUCK I LOVE THESE VIDEOS
Nice build. I have the same bike and i'm gutted the decals every where don't come with the Managers signature as I want to Spray the full bike.
What polishing tools are you using to get the chrome back to how it should be please?

Hi, I used wire wool to remove the rust just dipped in some rust remover.
Great video and editing. I wish many of the others I've watched were this good. Just a couple of questions, when you removed the decals did you use anything special to remove the glue residue. Also when you were polishing what did you use? I have a Raleigh record sprint I'm doing and I was going to use t-cut but it wasn't available so I bought a product called Scratch Out. It ended up showing scratches that hadn't been visible to the eye before I used it. Again great video and thanks for sharing it. Much appreciated. 👍

Thanks! I used something called ‘Sticky Stuff Remover’ which worked quite well, I actually made a little mistake and used quite a rough scotch pad which started to affect the paint, wasn’t so bad as the new stickers covered it back up, I think in future I’ll try the liquid and also heating up the residue and rubbing it away. For polishing I used t cut but didn’t really seem to do much, then I had some Auto Glym Super Resin Polish I used for my car which worked well. Hope that helps and good look with your project!

@@SJMCycles Thanks for the help and advice. I'll try some of Auto Glym polish on mine and hopefully it will work. If not maybe some strategically placed decals will do the trick. Thanks for your reply and good luck with any future projects. 👍
Is the rear axle spacing different? did you have to do anything to make the track wheel fit?
@SJMCycles
3 жыл бұрын
Hey, no the rear wheel fit fine, just needed a shorter bottom bracket axle to keep the chain inline 👍
Hi great video- could you possibly drop a link of where to buy decals as I cannot find any anywhere! Thanks
When you fitted the chain, it didn't seem to mesh with the chainring. What was the issue? Nice video, really good stop-motion! 👍🏼

The original bottom bracket axle was too wide, I then bought a new shorter one which was also too wide and ended up third time lucky with the right width 110mm

That looked fun. Chain line *is* the tricky part. Best "bar tape" is the hard rubber ones that everyone throws away. N.B. you t h I c c bro. Prop, hook?
How do you get the nuts and bolts to undo themselves?
💯💯
What size is the seatpost
Sweet! I also have a raleigh fixie. not quite as clean as that though!

Was anyone else slightly bothered by the no bar tape on the handlebar?
@SJMCycles

Not for everyone and it was a good look in my opinion but I have added some tape now, not the comfiest on a long lockdown bike ride ha.
Hey, what about the wheels?
And the gear levers are for??
@richardking3681

Maybe to leave the in place if the next build includes gears, not to shave the frame...

To keep the original look of the bike, plus removed they are just 2 holes on the frame which doesnt look good imo.
wish i could find some frames

eBay? Plenty in UK
This is a nice bike but it's a pity they're worth so little I saw a few of these for sale but they're worth nothing so as a fixer upper to make some money off of I wouldn't even bother!! Regardless it's still a nice build!!

good work but why fixie...
Too much branding it looks better without the all the stickers. It’s a clean conversion though.
Please can I have this bike I'm from the Philippines and I want to travel♥️ thank you
when i see 'fixie conversion' i always hope its from fixie to geared and not the other way
