Ballora: A Beautiful Monster (And is she Mrs. Afton?)

Ойындар

Today we're taking a look at Ballora, Fnaf's elegant ballerina. Or at least, that's what she appears to be. Like most things that come out of Freddy's, something dark and dangerous hides underneath her pretty plates. Who is she? And where does she fall amidst her peers?

Ballora has always been the most terrifying animatronic to me. Her endoskeleton is just- unsettling. Her humanoid appearance makes her stand out against the more wacky and animalistic designs of the other Funtimes. Her smooth and calming voice makes her seem almost motherly, which is probably the scariest part about her. It’s kind of like how the Beldam from Coraline speaks in a soothing tone, yet is far more despicable than the caring parental figure she pretends to be. Ballora had a lot of potential and could have been one of the most horrifying villains in the franchise, but, much like Baby, she was wasted. A real shame honestly.

One of the main reasons people think Ballora is Afton's Wife, is because of the lyrics of her song. It makes total sense if you assume they are being sung by his wife. Why do you hide inside your walls, (her husband spending so much time in laboratories) When there is music in my halls? (she wants him to come spend time with her instead) All I see is an empty room, (a reference to Elizabeth's empty bedroom perhaps) No more joy, an empty tomb. (she knows she's dead, but her spirit is stuck in that animatronic) It's so good to sing all day, To dance, to spin, to fly away. (and now all she does is sing and dance all day long)

I honestly love Ballora, ironically, because of the condescending way Baby treats her, hearing Baby say “Ballora never learns” just made me say “she just like me fr”. We don’t get such layers of dynamic with the other funtimes, that “toxic family” vibe that I think adds to Ennard. Because a big thing with the best of the funtimes is also the juxtaposition between their appearance and actual behavior, I.E. Funtime Freddy is the big to Bon Bon’s little, but Bon Bon is seemingly his “protector”, Funtime Foxy behaving like a showman in UCN, but also being shy, Baby, despite her name, being the most coordinated, functional and “grown up” of them. Also the bluntness and deadpan of her speech, and how inappropriate some things she says are is like the thing ever (“flesh and bones”, “I can hear you breathing”). She’s a hot mess, I love her.

Honestly my favorite headcanon is that the Daycare Attendant is taken from Ballora's specs. Moon does Ballora's spider crawl, in exactly the same manner. The lower torso twists so that the legs move backwards allowing them to crawl *very* well. Add that with the tutu element, the non-animal appearance associated with stage and theatre, the grace of both Sun and Moon, and I think Ballora being the Daycare Attendant's predecessor makes a lot of sense.

She does have her own story in the Fazbear Frights, though it is really lackluster. I think it's called Dance With Me and it's about a girl who steals some glasses and those glasses can allow her to see Ballora dancing away from her and everytime the glasses are put on she can move closer. It ends up with some kid putting on the glasses and dancing -whether that means Ballora possessed her or stole her body, I'm unsure.

to be completely honest, I think it would've made more sense if Ballora was the one who took control of Ennard after Sister Location. while I love Funtime Freddy, it's clear that the only reason he suddenly had so much importance in FNaF 6 is because Scott knew how much people loved the guy. Not because he was particularly interesting. With Ballora, it's clear that she at least has a fair amount of intrigue to her character, what with her very vague song lyrics and generally mysterious presence. It feels like they WANTED to do more with her, but just didn't know exactly how to flesh her out. So now she's just a weird little side-mystery, I guess.

To be fair, considering the components of Ennard... Freddy Fazbear is the mascot and figurehead of the brand, and is closely related to Fredbear as well Now these kids are from the MCI in the 1980s, they're almost CERTAINLY missing memories and overall kinda fucked up from the stuffing, forgetting, being blended together and split into chunks, and finally re-fusing. It's pretty likely they'd use the face of the most recognizable and iconic member of the Funtimes. A decent Runner-Up *would* be Foxy, but i expect Ballora would be the last they would pick

Circus Baby, while fairly simple, has quite a lot going for her in terms of her personality and backstory. Circus Baby in Sister Location, compared to pretty much every other character in the game (hell, maybe even the entire series), is quite complex. She has a fully fleshed out backstory that she uses against you as a form of manipulation, is scarily intelligent, has a strong vendetta against William, who she believes YOU are, and even attempts to guilt-trip you by sounding like Elizabeth Afton near the end of the Fake Ending. while it might not seem like much, it's pretty huge in terms of how Scott normally writes characters. and the only other character within Sister Location that I believe has a hint of intrigue to them is Ballora. Funtime Freddy is a one-sided maniac. Funtime Foxy had no voice. and the Bidybabs and Minireenas are basically mindless goons. Ballora's mysterious, at least.

I never really believed the Ballora Afton theory, though I think the reason at least some people made the connection was through UCN. Given that her lines suddenly became a bit more flirtatious when compared with SL, and given who the protagonist of UCN is, I could see why some people might assume things. Doesn't prove it though, if anything it just lets us get a look at Will's weird thoughts pertaining to his ballerina murder-bot. Honestly she's always been such a weirdly interesting character, especially her night 2 appearance. Going in she's this threatening hunter, stalking you through the room, stopping whatever she was doing to go find you. Then, when you leave, she just let's you go. She hears you scuttling around but instead of getting up again she decides to leave it be. Is it because she genuinely thinks it's just a draft or something? Is Baby telling her there's nothing to worry about and pacifying her? Or is the reverse true, was Baby the reason she was so aggressive in order to paint a scarier picture and help Baby's 'guardian' narrative, while the calm and gentle woman is the original? I wish they'd given her more proper screen time. I think she and Mango would have worked well as a duo, stuck in a large, dark room with both of them able to crawl anywhere. You can track both by noise, but since both sounds are active it'd be harder to track one while listening for the other. Like a mix of the vent repair and dark rooms.

I think one of the dumb reasons why I fully believed that Ballora could be (an inspiration to) Mrs. Afton would be some of these ballet-related headcanons that I made back then (buckle up guys, this is gonna be long, also, I am not a ballerina). - If you played FNAF 3, there is a Golden Freddy secret mini-game with a music box song playing on repeat. The title of that song is "Swan Lake". Swan Lake is a ballet/theatre performance that tells the story between two lovers, Odette and Siegfried. Odette and her fellow maidens were cursed by an evil magician named Von Rothbart. Rothbart has cursed Odette and the other ladies to turn into swans by day and humans by night (you guys see where this is going?). In the end, Odette managed to break the spell by drowning herself, to be followed by Siegfried. In some versions, the fellow swans dance around Rothbart as he died. (which kind of gives off FNAF 3 ending vibes) - In "The Immortal and The Restless", people have implied that Vlad and Clara could be William and Mrs. Afton. You see, "Clara" was constantly the headcanon name given to Mrs. Afton, but the name Clara isn't just that. Clara is also the main protagonist in a ballet/theatre performance called "The Nutcracker". Clara also has a brother named Fritz (we have several Fritzes in FNAF). But perhaps the most interesting among them all is Drosselmeyer, a toymaker who brought dolls to a party one Christmas night (some said he brought 4 life-sized dolls, and other said it was 2), and as far as I know, these dolls can sing and dance on their own. Let's not forget that in FNAF AR, Ballora's frozen ballerina skin allows her to play "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy", one of the most important dances in "The Nutcracker".

This is something that has always confused me in this series. The Funtimes thought Baby was too controlling and dominant, so they kicked her out. But in Fnaf 6, Ennard is just called Molten Freddy, implying he has basically full control. Did he dominate and force them into submission after Baby was kicked out? That can’t be the case because Molten Freddy can barely hold itself together! Are the other animatronics just ok with this? That can’t be true either because if the plan was to pretend to blend in then Baby at least could pretend to not be crazy, meanwhile Freddy can barely control himself and just wants to kill things! I don’t know, I feel like Molten Freddy should have just been a redesigned Ennard with a new voice. Sorry I’m complaining about this on a video about Ballora.

It could be a heated argument - she could have found out about the deaths and the hidden laboratory - and the situation escalated. This could put more layers on William's character and also show the impact it had on the kids and the way they see their father (especially Michael since he is the oldest) In any case, I think it would add to William's manic behavior if he somehow tried to replace his wife, even if it wasn't a conscious decision

Okay, so since uncanny stuff tends to get under my skin, Ballora is one of the more effectively disturbing animatronics to me. Her movements, those closed eyes, and elegant appearance, concealing that honestly really disturbing endoskeleton face underneath really gets to me. I just wish they would've done more with her. Interestingly enough, I don't think she's as aggressive as Baby would like you to think she is. After all, Baby partially controls her, so why wouldn't she attempt to make her seem like a threat, meaning you trust Baby more? Though, her design is very strange compared to the rest of the SL cast. Baby is just a large, childlike robot meant to be the main attraction for children to interact with. Freddy seems to be meant to put on little comedic shows with Bon Bon, Foxy reprises his original role of having his own show stage, though I'm not sure what his performance would be like. But Ballora? I can't tell what her purpose seems to be from her design. She's not as kid-friendly looking as the rest, I mean, just look at her, especially the outfit, so I'm not sure what her purpose would be. Gotta admit though, her voice is actually quite calming, except for one thing that loops her back around to being terrifying again. Listen to her singing. There's a very clever way of making you have that fight or flight response in there. She'll sing familiar sounding tunes, but the last note will always be discordant, dissonant. Something isn't right, and you can immediately tell. It's really smart, and very uncanny. So yeah, they really didn't do enough with this character lol.

Ballora definitely is one of the most unique characters in FNaF's lineup. The spider-crawl, the noise-based tracking on _both_ sides, and her generally creepy appearance when she moves, whether gracefully or rapidly, towards you while never once opening her eyes. The humanoid design, with a completely unmoving face devoid of changing expressions, and her dance taking all of her body language away (as well as her crawl doing the same) means she has pretty much the least visual tells of what she's thinking at any given time until she actually does it. But, we simply don't see a lot of it. I do wish she was in Help Wanted... but I wish a lot of things about Help Wanted, and I know it too appears on closer inspection to be rather rushed. Or, at the very least, full of evidence of ambitious projects cut short, even if its gameplay style allows for easy removal of concepts that don't pan out during development, and addition of extra content after-the-fact. You could really just keep going with a title like that, even without the VR as the main thing - that just makes it that much better. Funnily enough, if Yenndo were in the game, literally all of the SL characters would be had Ballora made it in. The Minireenas and Bidybabs have cameo/easter egg appearances (presumably cut content, or replaced by the Plush Babies for the Bidybabs as well), Lolbit appears in the Funtime Foxy Dark Rooms segment where he also appears, Funtime Freddy and both Bon-Bon and Bonnet show up in his Night Terrors level (as well as in the Funtime Foxy one, alongside Baby, when Lolbit does), and Baby herself in her own Night Terrors level. And Ennard has his Vent Repair section. Other than the even _more_ obscure easter eggs of SL, or, if you want to go that way, some of the Nightmares (rather, only the Nightmare Endoskeleton and Nightmare Mangle don't show up throughout HW), every big character in SL shows up.

Funtime freddy’s lines seemed pre recorded and party related, funtime foxy didn’t have a voice until UCN, whereas ballora’s lines seemed to be conscious like baby’s. 8:58 I always just took Immortal and the Restless more metaphorically than literally. I read a comment once explaining how it may be metaphorically showing the relationship of William and Micheal. Micheal is constantly trying to get his father to take responsibility for the kids he murdered (Clara trying to get the vampire to be a father, because the baby is obviously his). But William never takes responsibility ("The baby isn't mine"). In the 3rd game of the series Micheal tries to end it once and for all and burns the place his father trapped in down (in the 3rd episode, Clara literally sets their house on fire) Maybe the things the baby does are also references to the victims but I haven't figured that out yet. As for Ballora, I never believed that she was/was possessed by Mrs Afton. But I do have kind of a head canon? So in SL once the narrator gets the angsty teen voice, when we crawl through a vent the narrator tells us a fun story about someone having died in that vent. In the Fazbear Fright books, I think it was the 1:35 am one, the woman escapes into an office building, climbs into a vent and dies there. I thought this was super random?? Because, ok, someone died in a vent. And? It cant be anyone too important. Well, since Baby and Ballora are th only animatronics in SL who seem sentient, who say specific stuff and not pre-recorded lines like Funtime Freddy and Foxy, I though maybe they were somewhat possessed. Yknow since we know Baby was directly possessed. We also know (?) that after William and his wife got divorced, she k!lled herself. So maybe after the divorce, she went down into the SL location, climbed into a vent, died there, and her spirit somehow possessed Ballora. Again if I remember correctly, the woman from 1:35 climbed into the vent because the Ella doll, the image of a child she never had since her boyfriend left her, kept following her. Maybe Mrs Afton did it for the same reason. The fact that she didn't get custody over her children and the husband that divorced her kept following her? I admit this is far fetched and not definitive, but it's the only way I can make sense of those plot point repeating.

While I don't think there's any possibility of Ballora being possesed by Mrs. Afton, I think she was supposed to be modeled after her. It isn't unrealistic to consider the nootion that one possibility for William's wife to leave him is him focusing entirely on his work to the point of isolating himself from his family. When she left him and/or died, he built Ballora as a sort of twisted way of expressing his guilt. It makes me think all the Funtimes were modeled after the family that fell apart before his very eyes: Baby as his daughter, Freddy as his son with his little "protector" (Fredbear plush) Foxy since his son wore the foxy mask, Ballora as the wife that left him. I agree with you that Ballora is her own entity and not Mrs. Afton, but that doesn't exclude the theory that she may have been a tribute to how William drove her away.

I love Pizza Mom. Her musicbox, her poem, and her two modes as graceful dancer and nightmare spider clown. A trend I've noticed from watching your videos is that most of my favorite characters tend to get tossed to the side. Mangle, Puppet (and Nightmarion), Bellora, Enard, and even Baby. All those characters have interesting, unique and super creepy elements that make them really interesting to me, but because everything has to be Wills fault, he gets the spotlight and they get pushed off. I think what I'd like most out of FNAF in the future is more spin offs/side games just centered around underused characters, like AR was.

I don’t know how true this is, but I have my own opinion on the mother theory. (Honestly what I’m about to say might have been said by MatPat already but I don’t remember honestly) I think Ballora could be Williams wife, but not literally (as in it’s not possessed by her). What if during (one of the many moments in William’s life) his wife left him. William in grief over his wife leaving him ends up making Ballora, as it reminds him of her and a complete family he used to have. This could cause the line of “Admit it, you wanted to let me in” to feel more like she’s talking to William in UCN, instead of Ballora making a joke about how hot she looks.

I subscribe to the Ooftroop Undeniably Canon interpretation of Ballora's relation to the Aftons. William Afton's ex-wife pissed him off so much that he made an animatronic specifically to spite her by being better at ballet than her. William Afton's ex-wife was an accountant with no interest in ballet, so this wasn't particularly difficult.

My thoughts: well, there's proof in her songs that she might be the mother, however, this would mean fun time foxy, and Freddy, are the only ones possessed by the MCI kids, which explains their very chaotic, Spacratic behavior, hence why bonbon exists in the 1st place. I think it's about an 87% chance of her being the mother. Especially from the cut nanny bot lines in the post it room, nanny bot mentions a divorce, which gives us Williams motive to killing her, there's a lot of evidence you kinda skimmed over, but not everybody can find everything!

Personally, I really like the theory that Ballora is Mrs. Afton as I feel it adds a lot of substance to her and her relationship with Baby, who is her daughter. Even more so if we take into account the theories surrounding her death- did William kill her? Did she commit suicide out of grief from losing her children? Was it a complete accident? She represents everything I love about FNAF- the mystery and the open-ended questions that lead people to come to their own conclusions.

Thank you so much for making this. I’m just re-entering the FNAF theorizing world, and I was dying to hear someone talk about Ballora. “She might be Afton’s wife” really seems like a thread that should be untangled. Mrs. Afton doesn’t really come up much, and we’ve (probably) never seen her, but I’m not ready to write her off as a Dead Disney Mom who logically has to exist for some characters to be born but isn’t really a character herself. Frankly, in a story like this, a mother doesn’t have to exist. The story could’ve been that William kidnapped and maybe brainwashed 3 kids to make his own family and it wouldn’t even come close to being the craziest thing he got away with. If William had a wife, she probably did things that influenced the story other than birth children. That said, I don’t believe she’s possessing Ballora. I think all 4 of the animatronic from Baby’s band are representative of the Afton family (Ballora was inspired by Mrs. Afton, Baby was inspired by Elizabeth, and the Funtimes are new iterations of Michael’s and CC’s favorite animatronics, Foxy and Fredbear), but Baby is the only one who is truly possessed. The others are infused with Remnant to make them more “alive,” but I assume the process of isolating Remnant sanitizes it of any memories or personalities of a particular person. Still, she can probably tell us something about who Mrs. Afton is/was.

i feel like we gotten robbed of a possible antagonist in SB like she seemed to fit better as the daycare attendant and/or fitness instructor like sure sun and moon do fill and fit in the job they are given but it's not wise to leave kids with only 'one' animatronic like we all saw what happened to Toy Foxy now known as mangle. Also don't get me wrong I love Glam rock Chica but she seems more of a kids cove and theater tailored animatronic with her personality. I don't want to replace Sun and Moon but they could've had more of a threating presence if Ballora was also in daycare patrolling the hall on the upper floor and theater alerting Sun of the player being in the daycare area. for fitness instructor idea she could teach children to be fit through dancing and jazzercize. Am I basing this on the fan made Glam rock Ballora yes I am but it's still stands for a could of been with how the moved like she chase you through the vents in mazercise or be the patrolling animatronic for daycare instead of Monty. Or the patrolling animatronic for the fitness center instead of Roxanne. (i am sorry for the rant)

Great video! Around when SB came out I thought I had found evidence for the 'Ballora is Mrs Afton' theory (Even tho I never really liked it), but I'd made a bunch of assumptions then it fell apart at the main seam. Theory in case anyone was interested: * The Vanessa therapy CDs heavily imply that her mother committed suicide after the divorce. * I believed that the family back story is not Vanessa's but Afton spinning a tale using his kids experience for inspiration. * In SL after the night in the springlock suit, the workers who scooped Ballora are found hanged in her room. Hanging being an unfortunately common method of suicide. * So Ballora killing in the way she died was the link. Issue is the workers are actually one each in Ballora and Funtime Foxy's room, so it's not exclusive to Ballora, and no one's arguing that Funtime Foxy is Afton mom.

@@notrealnamenotatall2476 you know, I don’t mind when stories pivot a bit because of fan interest and enthusiasm. What I have a little bit of a bigger problem with is when writers completely change what the story and plot were intended to be because fans and theorists figured out what the original plan was. The reason why I say this is because typically what happens when there’s a late story overhaul is that the story ends up convoluted with tons of plot holes and nonsensical Deus ex machina type of plot devices. I’d rather see what’s coming in advance that have a story be frustratingly broken because the writer decided to last-second rewrite major plot points that had been foreshadowed and hinted at in advance strictly in an attempt to “fool” the audience or keep them from predicting what comes next.
