It’s been completely misconstrued over the years. The hands used to be much softer when Balanchine was alive and even into the 90s. Watch vintage City Ballet and you’ll see. Now the port de bras in the company is..... not so soft.. to put it mildly. I’m not sure why the shape of the middle finger and thumb have evolved into a circle... I kind of want to blame Suki Schorer but really, who knows.

Kaidi Liu or that too. I knew a girl who was 10 and her mom forced her to take dance class. She was in my beginner class and she would stand with her arms crossed the entire time and she would barely move. Literally. We would sometimes have to shove her so she would move to the center. (Not hardly shove her just lightly because she wouldn’t walk. She could but she wouldn’t.) She was so scared and frightened because she was forced to take ballet and she didn’t want too.

OMG the Balanchine one cracked me up HAHA I'm actually trained using RAD syllabus my whole life and idk why my hands are always doing that weird looking claw shape, like it's basically my bad habit! But when I came to the States for college a few years back, I once joined an open class and the instructor is a former principal of NYCB, she was trained directly under mr. B. She said "wow, you're such a natural! Your hands are exactly like how Balanchine used to taught us back in the days. I didn't even teach you that and you just somehow did it perfectly" .... I had been doing ballet for 6 years when I was 12 I earned my first pair of point shoes, but I gave up right after. Now I'm 16 and I regret so much quitting, I completely feel in love with ballet again and I am using quarentine to get back my wasted time. I think it would be really hard, but not impossible, because when I did ballet classes I only had 1 hour class per week and didn't did shit during the other days, I just thought that 1h would be enough to be a professional and then I got depressed because I wasn't evolving and stopped. Any advice? I need all the help in the world

I am just gonna admit it right now I am the Balanchine girl lol.. I just did one of SAB’s online programs I am so obsessed
since i'm not a dancer, i was the underdog when i was a theater kid no one liked me and all the other girls thought our teacher didn't like me either, but then she started giving me all the lead roles, and the others liked me even less but then i quit and i got friends and the teachers always had me participate in school "shows(?)"
One of my teachers at SAB gave me great advice on hands. It was to remember the first time you held your girl(or boy) friend’s hand. Don’t think about making it look the same, just the way it made you feel.
I'm going to learn to speak Russian the try to tryout for a spot at the Russian ballet company
most annoying part of people who complain and say they hate it: when they say this shit to you at like a summer school you worked hard to get into and they go round telling everyone they don't even want to be there. Bonus points if they are "only here because my parents got me in and then told me like yesterday i have to go but i'd rather be watching my boyfriend in his Louis Vuitton fashion show rn" . like i'm sorry, if you don't wanna be there don't take that place away from someone else who does and don't ruin the experience for the other people there by acting like you're better than them because you somehow got in without even wanting/trying to.
Where all the balanchine gurls at 👀🖐🏽 Except I’m scared of SAB and big places lol

@@julietchaltry2936 I'm working so hard, but it feels like quarantine ruined some of that work ! Last time my instructor mentioned pointe before quarantine, he said around 11 is a good starting point, and now that im 11he moved it up a lot longer, and it might just be him re-visiting those thoughts, but im not sure, I just feel like there are so many people with more technique then me. im not sure though, im just VERY impatient, whenever I get a package, I check to see where it is every 5 minutes (im definitely not doing that now haha).

Center Stage (the 2000 film) has excellent examples of three of these four stereotypes (all except the Balanchine girl). And featured African American dancers with good storylines, touched on the theme of dancers struggling with weight gain, and young people finding out for themselves what kind of dancers they want to be. Plus there's a cool technique versus artistry dilemma.

The leotard looks like it has watercolor flowers on it. That's not a bad thing I just noticed that.
The girl that hates dance is so true. A girl in my dance class said she doesn't want to do dance but she does it for her parents.
When KZread notifies you 8 minutes late so you can never be early 😬
My ballet teacher was taught by Balanchine for a bit and he always gets so mad at girls in my class if they do the lobster hands. He's like "Balanchine is not what you are doing right now. Just stop."
I’m not exactly the underdog, but I was quite good at a fairly young age, so I was put into a more advanced class with one of my other friends that was moving up fast. A lot of girls who were a year older that me got really pissy and complained that they should be in the older class instead of me, and straight to me face asked why I was put in to an advanced class instead of them. This was 3-4 years ago, and I just had one of them ask me for a duo this year... I’m not one that likes bragging, but I know that I’m good/average, and that’s the only reason she want to dance with me. I said no, obviously. But sometimes, it’s really tough being an underdog or being young and good. Love you all and hope you don’t listen to what others say about you and push through. You’ll get there

So I take dance classes at my school and I haven’t done ballet since I was eight and I did it for three years, but now two girls in the class are really really good, one other girl (she just graduated) is decently good, then there’s another girl who is really stiff in her dancing but she’s pretty good, and then there’s me. I have trouble with a few things but I’m decent I guess.
we love a good Swan Lake reference
I love this she’s such a good actress
I think I am the girl that always complains. I adore dancing but I’m terrible with pointe shoes. My parents forced me to graduate from my ballet school and I eventually graduated. I’ve had pretty good friendships though. (I was also going to a normal school too)
I love your dancing YOUR SUCH AN INSPIRATION TO ME ❤️❤️❤️

I ordered one of your leotards and they are SO CUTE!! and you are such an amazing dancer ILY
I love these videos 😂 You're a super good actress too btw, for real
I'm the underdog. I work so hard, but I don't get the corrections or attention from my teacher, and I often get placed in the back for groups, and the girl who gets the lead role, will literally say they haven't practiced at all in the past week, but they're the first one chosen. I'm also kinda the one who says they hate dance and threatens to quit, but I always get bullied at my studio, so that's why I always threaten to quit lmao.
Why do you dance so well? Love you Mac❤❤❤❤❤
I always wanted to dance but I have never atented ballet class . It's my big dream. And you always encourage me to believe and try hard , thank you Mackenzie , ily ❤🙈 you are really good dancer , also , you are soo pretty omg
I’m definitely the underdog in my class. I have my bff in my classes with me and she always gets the attention and we are the exact same at dance and the top of our class but no one ever gives me the time of day.
Mackenzie described the OTHER HALF of my class this time omg sooooo relatable

Some of the dancers that want to quit can't. I have a friend that was forced to dance
ok hi i have been a fan for a long time n ily ur amazing :(
The artistic director (who is my teacher) used to dance with Mr. B and it is such an honor to dance with her 🥰🔥
Noice,I always watch your tutorials and it helps alot!
Hey Mackenzie, my name is Emerson and I'm a dancer, you are literally such a big inspiration to me, like, how are you so good??? I wanna be as good as you soon
Love your videos you are so talented
The forgetful girl; she will get to the studio and realize she forgot something, during the rehearsal season she will get to the theater and forget her makeup or something that is important for the show( sometimes this girl irritates me bc one time we all had to change our costumes so it wouldn't look weird since she forgot multiple pieces) this girl would also forget the choreography even after practicing for almost a month.
I dance at a Balanchine driven studio, and I agree that they're really stylized and we do the hand things, but they aren't as exaggerated
I personally know a lot of "quitting dancers" and it LITERALLY DRIVES ME INSANE like if you are so sick of dancing, then just- GO!!!
I love this kind of videos, they are so funny!!! You realy play the different typ off girls verry good!
you make me want to be active - let me add that it's extremely impossible to do that - btw ur an amzing dancer! wish i had your skills :)
You should be in a movie!! Your acting is so good!!!!!

The Ballanchine Method or technique focuses on very quick movements coupled with a more open use of the upper body
