The fact that they’re sexualizing someone they think is a minor (who is probably on the same skating rink as their kids who are also doing the exact same activity of skating) is disgusting. I feel sorry for the poor woman married to this man. I hope he doesn’t have daughters. The bar is truly in hell.

Gosh what he said is so disgusting… sexualizing someone they believe is a minor, saying that Luna’s “half naked” when she’s literally wearing long sleeves and pants (which indicates that a woman’s outfit is never an ‘excuse’ for them to be sexualised by, as perverts have those horrible thoughts regardless of the situation), commenting on girl’s’ appearance, blatantly talking abt how ‘a man can dream’ (of those disgusting things he had in his mind)… ppl like that should be burnt in hell.

Damn, poor wife of this guy. He‘s staring at girls and he believes Luna is 15 - 17, so he KNOWS he shouldn’t sexualise her. But yet he apparently can‘t help ogling a girl who is 30 years his junior. ‚Dreaming‘ about it. Damn man. Disgusting.

A 52 years old man SHOULDN'T "dream of a 16-year-old girl" or should be confident enough to display his disgusting thoughts to others. I'll never stop saying that this needs to be taught in families because its an abhorrent behavior and unfortunately too common in men.

i agree with almost everything you just said but i was just thinking and i feel like it’s important to point out that actually this behavior doesn’t come naturally to men. it is learnt from other people they know, it is perceived from strangers or their environment, media, etc. it’s good to know that this behavior is mostly learnt bc it means it can be unlearnt or simply not taught. ik we can’t change how men are portrayed in media or what other people teach or do, but at least each person can be aware of the fact that slow change is not impossible

Hi! I'm Ellie: an adult figure skater in college (also, ex-ballerina) with some tips, tricks, and brands! So over the years I've skated (8-10 years), the most important tip is to stay inspired. It can be so frustrating when you're stuck on a move for a long time, but it is totally normal! I combat that by filling my social media with other adult skaters near my level and slightly above my level so I can watch other people working on the same things as me and celebrate their successes with them. That keeps me wanting to achieve and grow with my fellow skaters. A trick (since I also used to struggle with trying to spot during spins), is to figure out where your eyeline is and trace is while you spin. For me, I try to keep my eyes on the middle section of bleachers as opposed to a single spot in the room. That helped me a ton during spins and now I don't feel the need to spot anymore. Another tip/trick is to stretch before you skate, which I'm sure you know as a dancer. Focus on hips, hamstrings, back, and shoulders. Lastly, clothing and brands! I try to remember to try and wear what I'm comfy in (although it is so hard to with men like that). If you wear something else to please others in anyway, you end up focusing on your outfit too much when you deserve to be focusing on your activity. Personally, I wear leggings for my bottoms (usually not a flare as those can hold water more around the ankle if you fall). My favorite type are the hugger line from Aerie- they don't get gross if you fall, the compression is perfect, and I love the pockets so I can put my gloves in them. For tops, sometimes I throw on a baggy t-shirt, but other days I love the lululemon swiftly tech long sleeves or align tanks if I'm feeling like I want a lighter top. You were also 100% right with the lulu jackets, I recently got a define luon jacket and it is AMAZING- 10/10 worth the price. Other little things to wear- pantyhose socks when you have legit skates make an incredible different (cheap ones or the mondor/edea skate socks work. floquiya if you want them a bit thicker and warmer); cheap gloves from target (get a few pairs and shove them into your skate bag); mondor tights if you choose to wear shorts/skirt and tights; any good sports bra is a great asset for jumping so you aren't... sore later lol; Rockerz skate guards are my fave hard guards and Chloe Noel have fun soaker guards (don't forget to dry your blades and put soakers on after!). Of course you'll need some good skates too so make sure you go to a reputable skate shop and get fit- just like pointe shoes, different types of feet work in different skates/blades. I personally have skated in Jackson skates and now Edea skates, but don't work well in Reidell. They even have skate brands (like aura) that take a scan of your foot and custom make your boot! Definetly talk to your skate shop about what you're skill level is and what your goals are as each boot works best for different things (such as single vs double jumps or freestyle vs ice dance). My last brand/clothing tip is something I feel like you'd find fun- in the 2000s-2010s, there was this brand of skating pants by Choe Noel that have a spiral pattern down one leg... something tells me you'd love those! I hope this all helps! If you have any more questions, feel free to dm me on my skating insta @skating.ellie! I feel like my history with ballet is a great asset for my skating, so I'm sure you're going to do well. Have fun skating

I hope you're still skating and that those men did not put you off the sport forever. Skaters tend to wear tightly fitted clothing (men and women!) because anything too baggy distorts body lines and can get snagged on toe picks. You're not the only one dressing this way is what I'm trying to say (sometimes I just skate in a sports bra!). Regardless of if you plan on sharing it, I hope you're still on your skating journey because it is such a gratifying thing to come to as an adult.

As a ballerina who has in past 6 years got really into figure skating and ice dance, my best advise particularly with spins is try to get out of habit of turning out your standing leg and keep your knee soft, not super pulled up! This will massively aid you in keeping your spins centred and feeling more secure. It took me 4 years to work this one out and was like a magic switch went off when I gave both of these a go in combination!!

hi luna!! i'm a figure skater and i love it so much! it's so beautiful and so amazing to be able to do and because of your flexibly and strength form ballet, i think you will thrive!! i hope you grow to love it even more through out your learning. the best advice i can give you is definitely layering for the outfits (bodysuit, tight under shirt) because at the beginning of the lesson you will be cold but throughout the skating you will get warmer since you are exercising (i skate in a tank top sometimes!). since i live in Canada, i buy a lot of my clothes from smaller businesses, but, I would definitely get some clothes from lululemon! also, turtlenecks and leg warmers work best for me. hope this helps!!

you look like such a natural at this!! I've seen a lot of beginners and you picked stuff up very quickly :) I can't wait to see you do a layback spin, I bet it's gonna look so good! I think ballet will help you a lot especially with arms and flow and things like that. you can usually tell which skaters have done ballet as they're always so graceful. please don't be discouraged by the disgusting old men, go out there and wear whatever you want, be the best skater you can be and have fun

I’m so excited to see more! Figure skating is such an art that is so difficult and I have so much respect for it. Also, WEAR WHAT YOU WANT. if you feel comfortable in baggy clothes do it, if you don’t, dont! I know it’s disgusting and also hard to get over when there’s creepy men like that but make YOU happy! :) You did really well too!

As someone who is a figure skater, you did amazing! I have been doing the sport for over 15 years and have heard many comments like the ones the two men were making. It is weird to hear them still and during competitions and such, they are harder to hear as most the time you are in a dress. People like that are about 80% of why I don't compete anymore! Overall you did such a good job on the ice! Even with the rental skates! Those are some of the hardest skates to skate in! You are such a beautiful skater! Sending much love!

Figure skating is the best and most inspiring thing ever, but it is also so so hard and you need to work so so hard. You fail every single day, again and again, but when you concur a new move, land a new jump or smt if feels like you’re on top of the world and it’s literally the best feeling ever!!!

Hii-Former ballerina and now figure skater-This made me so happy to see! There's for sure a lot of parallels between the two sports, especially when you've been in ballet long enough to catch onto those. The "in and out" moves are called backward and forward swizzles by the way! They're a beginner method of moving on the ice, and yeah backwards are definitely going to take a little more time to get the hang of! Breaking into custom skates is quite a journey, but like the instructors shared, it's just about mandatory to have your own in order to skate well enough for SURE. They make a big difference. Once your skate's blades dull down a little it should be easier to stop-But try putting a little 'omph' into your stops, using your weight may help (If you weren't already).
