Ball in Cage Woodworking Project Timelapse video

Фильм және анимация

The wood can be found cheap on Amazon HERE:www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000...
Knife kit can be found HERE:www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000...
I have wanted to make one of these for awhile. Its a fun little project. It took me about 2 hours to make, and I only cut myself twice. Kudos to the person who sees where in the video ;-) It was pretty relaxing to be carving up in the mountains by a river... Rather nice way to spend a few hours.

  • @JerryRigEverything

It really depens on the type of wood. With balsa, and a block the size of mine, itll take about 3 hours. If you use harder wood, youll need days, or weeks even.

Hey bud, I realize this is an older video, but if you still get comments, let me know if you have any suggestions on a wooden chain. All these guys use power tools, but I saw chains carved by crewman aboard whale ships. We have some cool little museums on Cape Cod. I'd like to give it a shot without electricity (besides KZread that is).

Fucking hell, is what I thought when I watched this because sometimes I swear, and because this is an impressive project. Anyone who has carved before knows that the ball in the cage is pretty tricky. You have to have the right tools, and of course, lots of patience. I’m guessing that knife is mega sharp. I’ve done this before on a much smaller scale, but it took me a long time. Working in micro scale is fiddly but it’s what I’m used to after working with surface mount devices for so long. Great project.

Don't worry about him. Believe me, he's not too young. I was already taking apart things and sometimes even putting them back together by that age and my father RIP wasn't at all handy or taught me anything. My family finally started appreciating my, ahem, skills when I started digging into our non-functioning TV set, saw some tubes not lighting up (yeah, I'm that old), taking them to the local TV store which had a tube testing machine, and replaced the bad tubes and fixed the TV. I was the 11 year old hero of the hour and no one ever complained about my various scattered piles of parts again! Enjoy your time with him while he's young enough to get infected with the handiness bug. It will last his whole life hopefully and will keep him too busy to be bothered with video games etc.
