I feel like she gives a refreshing kinda energy to the party. Like everyone is relatively low key and here comes this absolute battering ram of a personality. She’s definitely the most lively in my opinion

Everyone says she’s the worst companion in the game while I laugh my ass off at every one of her edgy lines and immediately put her on my team. She’s so mean it’s funny and the fact that she’s actually a no-nonsense one man (or woman) army helps balance her abrasive personality.

@@Magicwillnz I love Astarion for the same reason that I love Lae'Zel, they're both the worst yet they can have such a change of heart at the end of the game I cannot not love their development, their good endings are nice too, if bittersweet. Also I swear they're the funniest.

@@Magicwillnz Well then again he is like that because he is trying to find himself allies to kill Cazador and also acting like that is what got him through 200 years of pure hell, so once you remove all that he's pretty broken and trying to find himself again, and be more than the habits and personality he had to cultivate to survive and please his master, I'd say after 200 years he's conditionned to act like that even if he hates it himself probably. And well he never could give a thought to himself for 200 years too so of course the first time he can of course he's gonna care more about himself, since he wasn't allowed to before and his master certaintly didn't either. He's entitled to finally think for himself and about himself only. Again, he also had to endure a hellish life for way much longer than any human could ever hope to achieve, with his immortality, so, like, it's something else entirely. He can be pretty sweet in his good ending too and become a better person.

@@Magicwillnz I find it curious you don't like Astarion for what he is but also in the same line you say you don't want to see him change, you could have him being less annoying if you gave him the chance, since well, nobody else in his life before ever bothered either. Also, the meanest characters of the party, Astarion, Lae'zel and Shadowheart, didn't really have a say in their upbringing, Lae'zel was born into her pro-slavery society and raised on their propaganda, while both Astarion and Shadowheart were outright kidnapped and forced against their will to take part in the evil acts. I feel like many likes Astarion because he's quite relatable, I've seen many commenting on how they liked Astarion because they have been in horrible and toxic relationships before and seeing Astarion in action and being able to get better was really good for them as they felt his storyline, as his abuse is not played for laugh at all, and if you dare try to make a joke about it, he's stopping himself short of pratically killing you right there and there for it. Also you saying he's vapid when also saying you don't bother with him, if you actually try to romance him or really get nice with him, he becomes a lot less vapid fast. Some started with his storyline and found it extremely well executed to the point that when they did another storyline that one felt a bit more flat compared to Astarion's plot. But you should really bother doing one playthrough with either him as your main character or him as the person you romance. Then come back and talk about it, if your opinion still hasn't changed by then, well at least you'll have tried, but right now you just sound unfair not giving him a chance when you know he's the one who had the worst past in the party so of course he got tons of issues to sort, 200 years worth to be exact, and you expecting it to be all deal with over the game sounds just terrible. Sue him for not getting over his prissy mood fast enough for you, but again, not all in the party will just take whatever hell you throw at them sometimes and will reward you for it, even they have self-respect. Also, he's a fictional character, not a real life person, so you do get a lot of insight into his personal life among other things that you wouldn't need to bother with a real person but again he has good reasons to act like that, sure you don't have to like it, but at least bother to do his entire story before condemning him completely, you just sound unwilling to compromise sorely on your personal bias against what you hate in real life people, but in this game, I remind you that there's the multiple option choices to either make it better or worse, if you're complaining that you don't like him but also refuse to use the option to make him better, sounds more like a you problem than his problem, with all respect. I swear he could probably surprise you good. Just for starters, even if sounds like he likes the sex, he actually hates it and actually appreciate if you just decide to do something else other than just sex, after 200 years of doing that while feeling used the entire time and not being able to say no he's gonna be pretty happy about being listened to and respected.

But I feel like you just make a double standard with liking her but refusing to do anything with Astarion, as you could get to see past what you can't right now, I mean, Lae'Zel can do that in her quest, so can Astarion and the rest of the party, you can have Shadowheart leave her faith, have Astarion give up his quest for power, have Gale quit his idea of becoming a god, ect. You can make the most annoying ones into better people and it's a wonderful feeling, and you're missing out a lot on with Astarion. He can have good moments where he looks like he's the only sane one in the party, like complaining about he can't tell if someone in the party being's replaced by a shapechanger is either because the shapechanger is good or if the party is full of weirdos for example. Or him asking to not have them all jump down somewhere disgusting and well you all do and he looks just insulted the entire time. Or finding that cultist clown creepy, and that's before knowing the clown is a cultist. XD

@@Magicwillnz He becomes more sincere later on once he learns to fully trust you, because well, he's a vampire spawn that is viewed pretty wrongly just for his condition, hasn't met any nice people in 200 years, so of course he is extremely suspicious and guarded and tries to protect himself, and that's by using deception, an habit he developed for 200 years as it was his only way to live and survive, literally, cause if he didn't bring people back he would get tortured severely. Seriously the one time he refused to bring Cazador someone, Cazador punished him by locking him in a crypt for an entire year without blood or sensation, which completely broke him and his mind. He didn't die from the experience either, he was little more than a feral animal when he got out apparently. He's been used as a lure by his master, he had to deceive people into using him for his looks and sex just to bring his master food, and he hated every moment of it. Being used is all he's felt and feeling hopeless and abandonned by all the gods since no one saved him he can only be extremely bitter toward anyone thinking they're heroes, as they weren't there to save him. He's a severely traumatized abuse victim and you expect him to be honest about it from the get go? He loathes and is ashamed of his past, as nothing good came out of it, can you blame him for being wary of strangers that the group is, as they work together simply because they're all victims of the mind flayers and have to fix themselves before they all turn into monsters, which means they all have the same goal, doesn't mean they're all trustworthy. Lae'Zel outright offers to kill everyone and is pretty condescending and aggressive, and Shadowheart is a cleric in a cult of an evil goddess, so yeah, not the picture of upstanding, nice citizens that are the most trustworthy, right?

When she accuses Shadowheart of keeping secrets, I just want to turn to her and say that she's the only one who isn't. She is refreshingly honest. I trust her to never stab me in the back. She will stab me in the front after declaring her intentions. Totally trustworthy. Also, in comparison to the rest of her people, she is a lot more compassionate, adaptable, and trusting than many others we meet. Her culture is just so extreme even the low-keyest of the gith are intense and abrasive. Like, it is completely against her people's rules to bring non-gith to be purified, but she always insists that we all get to the creche to be saved. That's the kindest thing she could offer in these circumstances. She could easily hand us over and get purified while we're off being tortured and interrogated when we get to the creche, but she doesn't. Her aggressiveness is a response to what appears to be passiveness or fooling around from everyone else when there is a countdown for what is one of the worst maladies her people could suffer, and she is sure she knows how to save us all. ...the more I play, the more loveable I find her.

Tbh I kinda missed her being mean when I started romancing her

She's so misunderstood, her culture has forced her to act that way and to show no weakness but in reality she is soft and compassionate and completely the opposite of who you meet in the beginning.

Odd, she was never that mean to me. As long as you give her respect and don't insult her, she actually has your back quite quickly. All you have to do is act determined and direct. I was a bard, and she admired how I took charge of things, and how got my way without the opponent figuring out I was manipulating him.

She wasn't that mean to me either. I was a barbarian who intimidated people at any opportunity and sometimes I just chose violence. I let Lae'zel speak for herself to the gith, I basically ignored Shadowheart. Since we destroyed the grove, Lae'zel is the only companion who likes me. Her approval is exceptional while the others are neutral. I am not romancing her either.

She talks a big game but she's the companion that gets caught lacking the most. -Captured by the mindflayers (Could've happened to anyone I suppose) -Caught in a trap by some random tieflings (L) -Overpowered by Shadowheart (tbf, she was caught off-guard but the way she sets herself up, you'd think she'd always be on-guard, even among friends) -Kidnapped by Orin (L, depends on the playthrough but I did three playthroughs and it happened all three times so I'm guessing it's quite common for everyone) Still, out of all the characters in the game, I think Lae'zel has the best character arc in the game, even better than Astarion.

Lae'Zel gets kidnapped because she's not in your party, her and Halsin were in mine and Gale came running crying that Orin cut off his... Well, Mystra-reed. Happened because my gith device vibrated and we learned a patrol is near and I got Kermit girl in to talk (read: threaten) her kin. Oh but being caught off guard BY SHADOWHEART, of all people, is embarrassing. Nothing shameful about Astarion sneaking up on you, or Karlach just smashing you on the ground. But losing to the fake goth notlikeothergirls poser? Never live it down.

if people cannot handle her at her worst, then they don't deserve her best. I do not fault her for being mean or rude. She was literally kidnapped by mindflayers, you know, the very same species that had enslaved her own people for thousands of years until they broke free from them, but the history her people shared with them is bloodied and won't ever be forget; this is like a scary story your parents would tell to their kids, but instead, this is very much real. So, really, you met her on the worst moment in her life, and yet, she chose to help you. So people who gives her shit for it are weird.

she talks a lot of shit, but in my game she jumped down into the spider pit to help Shart after Dror Ragzlin shoved her into there. what a legend.

I'm kinda curious is there's a path for her to become disillusioned with the whole Gith war doctrine. There's kinda sorta sign of this after Patrol Encounter, but it's too early to tell. Otherwise... well. I don't take kindly to insubordinate children.

I play as a tempest cleric/storm sorcerer of bahamut and let's say the dialogue between me and lae'zel has been interesting 🤣 she definatley thinks I'm far too soft.

She has the best character development in this game in my opinion if you romance her and if she learns the truth of her queen.

Well she kind of mellow down a bit depending on the route you take... But hey... just a bit!!!

She strangely reminds me of panam from cyberpunk, similar hair, eyes and attitude

It might because I'm only 30 hours into the game but I don't understand why people favour Shadowheart over Lae'zel. Shadowheart is always the one instigating a fight between them, to the point she literally attacked Lae'zel in her sleep and she's so reluctant to open up to you that I barely bring her along. Meanwhile Lae'zel is over here with a no nonsense attitude, honestly hilarious and is on par with Wyll, Karlach and Gale in her loyalty towards Tav.
