Impressive! My Windlass arming sword (which I bought at the clearance sale but was one of their create your own designs) Is a good arming sword...but it weighs just under 3lbs; 8oz heavier than the BA one. The point of balance on mine is about 1/2” closer to the guard than the BA. My sword isn't a crowbar but does have a lot of authority in the cut. Still I'm thinking the BA would still feel more nimble...

Also the Albion Templar, which looks a lot like my arming sword, has a weight of 2lb 13oz & a POB@ 5 1/4 inches Mine has a weight of 2lb 15.2oz & a POB@ 5 3/8 inches (if i recall correcty) So while mine is heavier & has a further out POB than either the Albion or BA I believe it's in historical parameters... I also only paid $90 at the sale for it 😂

Nice always wanted to try the CYO swords but never did. Yea most swords will be at or around the same point of balance and weight. Some freak out over the minor Stat differences but overall if it meets the weight and balance and feels good in hand you won't really see a difference big aside from potential fit and finish details (for example the Albion having a better fit and finish). I think this is what confuses people a lot when it comes to high end vs budget swords is they think just because the high end sword was more expensive it should perform or handle better which isn't always the case. No matter how much distal taper for example a sword has if both swords have a 3lbs weight and a 4" POB they're going to handle the same. Those little details like point of balance, hilt and blade build are what bring those swords to the serviceable weight and pob to be comfortably used. For example let's compare the BA Teutonic with the Albion Knight. Both have pretty similar stats but the Albion had a little less weight and an inch difference in point of balance. Now a lot of people would probably assume the differences were major and the Albion is the better sword. But they really don't look at the why in the minor details. For example hilt type, blade length, blade width, handle material, handle circumference or length, blade thickness and so forth. All these little details will matter when it comes to the handling of the sword. For example the weight or Pob might be off between the two simply because of a different pommel. Like with the two BA 13th-14th Century Longsword models. That little type H on the original doesn't add much counter balance to the sword so it has a more forward PoB compared to the new models larger and heavier type I bringing the PoB back. Then again the Stat differences are so slight they both feel the same. That's why handling a sword is more important than just judging stats. Stats will give you a blueprint but until you hold the sword and swing it around you don't really know how it will handle.

@@DynamoSwordChannel Yes, historical swords before standard patterns would have variation in weight, length, quality & details. So as long as a sword is within historic parameters (or close too it) & durable for cutting I'm good. I don't want an overly heavy crowbar or an overly light sword either. And I agree what most matters is the steel quality, heat treatment & I'm how solid it is assembled. I don't own any Albion swords, but their definitely fit all catagories. They are the Rolls-Royce of swords...but the Honda of swords works for what cars are meant to do. A Honda won't be as fancy & luxurious, but it costs a lot less & is a workhorse. I own some Windlass swords that are excellent for the price I got them, some that are not so great... basically with entry/budget swords there are gems & lemons so if one can handle them before buying it is always best. Also KoA giving stats on swords helps a lot. You mention an inch difference in point of balance...on SOME swords that can be a noticable difference on others not so much. As you said there are a lot of factors. But what is MOST important is how a sword feels in the hand & how it moves! I'm fortunate to live 3 1/2 hours from Museum Replicas & go to their annual clearance sale in May every year I can. Can handle anything that is in stock. Plus with the bent/dent/discontinued stuff they have in the warehouse...well I've gotten daggers & Bowie knives that were originally $80-$120 for $20-$30, 'frankenswords' (one blade type on a random hilt type) for $30-$60 (worth $250-$350) and bought the create your own sword already created & sharpened for $90. Funny thing is when looking at the CyOpage it's exactly what I would have picked any way 😂

Nice review. I want this sword! I already own one of these from the original run which is very good. But I'm tempted to sell it, and get this newer run. I love the pommel.

Thanks, yea it's hard to say what to do as I've only owned the new model. With the comparisons I did with the 13th-14th Century I'd take the new over the old, sure it wouldn't be hard to sell the old one and use the funds towards a new one. But if you're happy with your old one and it meets the specs and quality of the new one maybe it would be fine keeping it instead.
