    Thank you Sharon for demonstrating this technique. I am always worried I am probably doing things wrong when it comes to my hair which is fine and salt and pepper. Until I found your channel I did not even own rollers or know how to backcomb / tease my hair. You have also inspired me to grow my hair longer so that I have more options - and yesterday - my 67th birthday - I bought a grey scrunchie to do my longer hair up in a bun after watching your videos. You are a great encourager and an excellent teacher.

    Well, I used baking soda; I mean I Used Baking Soda! Tons of baking soda! And I have a pixie. But my hairdresser immediately asked what I had done to my hair as she could tell the silver was shiny like new highlights. Now I have the actual recipe I won’t have so much baking soda in my ears. Thanks for your wonderful tips.

    Ok I've watched this vid twice now.... and I'm hooked. I will try the baking soda.. I'm desperate! My gorgeous silver white hair has yellowed! It started with our water softener breaking at the beginning of the Pandemic and being a Front Line Worker, I washed my hair after work-everytime! That made 3 days a week of shampoo. Purple shampoo gave it a not natural cast, and suddenly, despite adding a filter head to my shower, my hair was horrible! I try to use curly girl method with products. I will definitely try this baking soda idea. I did get my water softener fixed but now I believe the sun is the culprit to my hair yellowing and dinginess. Thank you! I'll let you know the results!

I had been using baby powder to help with volumizing and disguising some thin spots, but after seeing this video, I'm going to give baking soda a try. I use a generic version of Shimmer Lights every 3rd shampoo, which does a pretty good job of keeping the yellow out.

    Sharon for those who maybe just want a purple conditioner I found a fantastic one. It's by JOICO and it's called color balance purple conditioner. I actually put it on my dry hair. The ends that is which yellow. I used about two tablespoons and worked it in. Left it in for an hour uncovered while I did something else. Remarkable. I will use this once a week. Even hubby noticed. Before I was using purple shampoos which dried hair out and did nothing. My hairdresser said to me once, "you have to use a purple conditioner not shampoo". So anyway it works. Thought I'd share.

    Thank you denise bissell, but I don't recommend purple shampoos or conditioners to my followers as they can stain more porous hair and continued use creates a metallic look to the hair.

    As a cosmetologist of 31 years and have been semi-retired for many moons, I have to say you have wonderful teaching techniques! Just recently for my male clients, I purchased a product called Gorilla Styling powder. I was apprehensive at first and then viewed some of the videos to see how it worked. I was amazed and can say it works on my male clients just like advertised except it costs 20 dollars at my cost and a small bottle at that but a little goes a long way. I will have to try the baking soda just to compare. I will also check out if it is noticeable for darker hair. You have beautiful Silver-white hair and I also was wondering for one of my clients if you have any low-lights added to your hair?

    I never knew!!!! I see people using baby powder, corn starch, all sorts or stuff. I keep my baby powder to use as a scent when going to the dr or places I dont want to be attracting bees, lol. Corn starch is saved for cooking. Baking soda, on the other hand, I RARELY need for cooking, I use it for cleaning and clarifying my hair. I didnt realize how much volume it gives. I also never realized it helps remove the icky yellow grey I get when my hair is natural. I remember using apple cider vinegar in every rinse when I was younger to keep a hint of red in my blond hair. THANKS SO MUCH for your channel and all your advice and tips

    Never heard of using baking soda this way. Do you think it's better than dry shampoo? I've seen a number of YTers use dry shampoo on clean hair just for volume. I have used a little corn starch sprinkled on a brush but I get a bit of static as I'm in a dry climate. I'm going to try the soda.

    Great tutorial. I saw your picture with wavy hair and it looks absolutely stunning on you. Is it softer and better feeling than when it's teased and sprayed? Am wanting to wear my hair more natural as it has a slight wave and teasing and spraying feels so stiff no matter how allegedly non stiff the hairspray is- have tried products from 10.00 to $50.00 and can't seem to find good products for gray hair. Leaving it without product does make it look limp and teasing doesn't last unless sprayed. BTW, do you know if there a hairspray that doesn't leave baby fine and thin gray hair sticky and stiff?

  • @twominutetips

    @twominutetips

    I think either curly or straight its all in the styling. You simply have two different approaches with either choice. Currently I'm using John Freida Flexible Hold. But all hairsprays will have a wee bit of a stiff feel to them depending on how much you use and how you apply. Try some Curl Keeper for you more natural wave as its water soluble and can be reactivated with a spritz of water. Also you can tease at the root only for lift. I have other videos on this in the Hairstyling Playlist on this channel for you.

    K Ham - as stated in the video purple shampoos, when used regularly create a metallic tint to the hair - like a metal. AND some of the purples shampoos tint the hair blue or lavender.

    Hi Sharon, I am looking for natural, salt and pepper colored, hair extensions. Do you have any suggestions? Fashion gray is easy to find but I want them to blend with my own hair which is about 50/50. My base color is medium brown.

    I used it dry in the video as a POWDER volumizer Debra Windle-Smith. When I shampoo because its ALREADY in the hair I only use shampoo and it mixes with the powder baking soda and voila - bright and shiny.

    Actually Donna Woodford, its ALL in the TECHNIQUE AND the COMBOUT. ALWAYS comb from the bottom of the hair shaft and work your way up. AND hair needs to be brushed and cleaned in order for it to be healthy along with a healthy lifestyle AND stress management.

    Red lipstick is the aging lipstick. I just came upon this channel for the first time, this video was posted 2019, it's now Oct. 2021. Reading through the comments it seems this lovely woman's name is Sharon, and the color of her hair, the length are as beautiful as she is, I actually prefer it wavy. I'm 63, am a retired professional makeup artist and if I may please make one comment without coming across as rude: red lipstick is the aging lipstick. No female past the age of 50 (I stopped at 40), should ever wear it, it's harsh against an aging face and makes one look older. Please consider wearing a pale pink, light coral or a neutral. The pales with a touch of color lighten ones face and really do help us women look younger as we adapt to getting older. Less makeup is always best as we age. I stopped having fun dying my shoulder length, light brown hair in my 40's and let it go natural, it's still long, light brown with gray and white throughout it, friends tell me it looks highlighted, but I wish it would hurry up and go white all the way, I love yours! I use a fragrance free shampoo and conditioner as I'm highly allergic to fragrances of any kind, in anything, lotions, laundry detergent, soaps, etc. hair spray for me is toxic too. I read natural baking soda made into a paste, squished and combed through the hair may help lighten ones gray to whiter and found this video, subscribed and will watch more. Thank you for posting.

    Unfortunately, I completely disagree with you. There are thousands of women I have coached over the years who are over 50 with great success and their family and friends notice how much more vibrant they are - and wearing RED or variations thereof. That is why I'm a "Master" artist as I've had decades of experience in every sector of the makeup world. The aim is is NOT to chase the illusive "younger" approach but to embrace where we are with full enthusiasm and knowledge of "expert" skill. With as much respect as I can muster, it's this kind of thinking that leads women down the garden path of looking tired and drawn. My approach is NOT like a clown but uses proper intensity, architecture, depth and balance which are also all part of my approach to good makeup with successful results.
