Baking Artisan Bread Off Grid
Фильм және анимация
Finally! Here it is! Baking artisan bread off grid. This is overkill in the bread-baking category for emergency preparedness, but it will mean the world to my family if we have to ever go off grid for an extended time. It is a great skill to have! This setup would also work great for baking bread the regular way as well.

You are just so amazing!
Here is an update if anyone is interested. I found Amazon Basics Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron Dutch Oven with Dual Handles - 2-Quart that fits in the Coleman stove. I also found a felt welding blanket, made in the USA, on Amazon, but have not yet received it. I checked in my city, but they only had fiberglass blankets. The Coleman oven and the dutch oven are anxiously waiting for the blanket to make your bread. Thank you for your amazing videos.

Another great informative video. I have learned a lot from the ones I have seen so far. What I appreciate the most is that you get right down to business teaching and explaining without going down rabbit holes. Thank you for that. Lodge makes a 2 quart Dutch oven and it’s made in the USA 🇺🇸 not china. Yes it does cost more but for me it’s important to support manufacturers and businesses in my own country first whenever possible even if I have to pay a bit more. Looking forward to watching all of your previous and future videos. Blessings.

@@RoseRedHomestead I have a question how did your bread loaf get on X on top? I didn’t see you score of the top. Your bread looks amazing. With Russia attacking Ukraine, we’ve all got to prepare for grid down.
For the Artisan bread pot. You can go to Lodge who makes skillets and cat iron pots. I got one at their outlet in Pidgeon Forge, Tennessee. Thank you for your videos. I'm making the Apple Scrap Jelly as we speak.

There several videos that have made the cover for the coleman oven using the welding blanket and do make the cover more fitted to the oven and have great results with their baking and cooking food.

It is a 2-quart Dutch oven, but the measurements had to be just right to fit into my camp oven. I got it on Amazon, but it appears to no longer be available. But you can read about it and get the dimensions. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074DFMR8K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Well, here we are in 2021 in October, and we are still wearing masks etc. I have enjoyed this partly because I too have the little oven. I don't have a welder's blanket or a rocket stove, but I will be looking into it.
Hi Rose and Jim! My husband and I love your channel. Would you please tell us where you got your cast iron small dutch oven? It looks like about a four to six quart. We've been bingeing your videos and subscribed. Thank you and Jim for all the trial and errors and working information you've imparted. You answer questions I never thought to ask. You're doing God's work here and we appreciate it! God bless you and yours and all who read this! 😘👍🙏😇

@@RoseRedHomestead Thank you so much for your answers! I love casi iron. We're on raw land with no utilities, and we like to bake our biscuits on top of our propane rv stove inside our 12 inch cast iron fry pan. We cover them with the lid on low. We move them around the burner to make sure the bottoms don't get burned. I've also put four canning rings on the bottom of the pan and put the biscuits in a cake pan in the middle. Then cook covered for 15-25 minutes. Either method usually yields great tasting biscuits. I can't wait to try making your rocket stove! Not to mention your artisan bread! Thank you! 👍😘🤗

@@RoseRedHomestead Thanks! I'll google it in my area,
So love this. Do you share the artisan bread recipe.
Thanks for the great video! I love baking artisan bread! I just received my coleman oven and a small Dutch oven. However, when I put the rack in the oven and placed the Dutch oven on it, the rack just falls down due to the weight of the pot. How do you keep the rack snugly in place? I am afraid to try using it because I also bought a small stone to put on the bottom and I am afraid it will get broken if the rack and pot fall. Thanks and blessings!
Do you think you could get a steel plate that goes on the fire then put the oven on the steel plate to prevent the soot coming in?
Bravo!! Well done!! 🤗👏👏👏I am very excited about the results you got. Did you say you have a video of building a rocket stove from cinder blocks?

I am really looking forward to trying out a rocket stove. I now have an area where I can set blocks up without being obvious. I wonder if a rocky stove could be used as a heat source in an old shed or garage with ventilation?

It is a Coleman camp oven and we go it at a sporting goods store.
Your bread was absolutely fabulous!!! I got the Coleman Oven last summer. Last week I got the Rocket Stove like yours. Today I found your videos on them and I was so excited. I said, “Hubs, we have to watch this to see how we use our equipment, so watch this video with me.” He did. Very informative. Now I need the cute little Dutch Oven you have for the bread, and the welding blanket too. I was so surprised that the stove got up that hot. Do you think it was the charcoal, or would the wood have done the same thing, in conjunction with the welding blanket? Thank you for doing this. We are paying attention and love your videos. Hugs.

That is so exciting! My vote goes to charcoal, but I really don't know for sure. Have fun with your setup!
Wow! Impressive. You'd think modern ovens would have improved baking. I love this experiment, I just wonder if there was a taste difference. Was it smoky? How was the crust and crumb? Now, I am going to have to Google Poolish. Thank you for this video.

Thank you! It was so much fun to do. It was not smoky and both crust and crumb turned out exactly like its twin baked in the kitchen oven. I was so pleased. Here is a link to our video on poolish. Thanks for your comments! kzread.info/dash/bejne/qWutsLidir3XfJM.html
This looks delicious, and, you are so clever to figure out how to do it. I don't know if a Sun Oven would get as hot as you need it for the Artisan Bread, but, it certainly gets hot enough for cooking many things, including loaf pans of regular bread. Is there a reason you do not use/recommend Sun Ovens?
@RoseRedHomestead
