You can actually hear the air dump way before the biker reaches the tracks. That engineer was paying really good attention and predicted the following events well. The biker might have actually gotten hit had the engineer not slammed the brakes.

Imagine if the guy tripped and fell or if the engineer wasn't anticipating him to run across the tracks. I can't imagine with the F40PH console it is easy to see out to the far left window from the engineer perspective. Great job to the engineer and crew

Oh my goodness that person that crossed the track with his bike, he could have fallen down and then he would have had a real good picture of underneath the train and he wouldn't have been able to see it cuz he would have been gone 😮😢they need to get some like security guards out there to say "hey step away, step away... because obviously people don't read the sign that says "do not cross the yellow line" that's what I say, but I'm just a Grandma Railfanner. Good video though but that's terrible that guy crossed like, that shame on him!!!

The engineer applied the emergency brake, which dumps all the air(at 0:23) that is holding the brake shoes off the wheels, allowing them to be applied at full force, hence why the train is stopped for a few minutes after to allow the main air reservoirs to fill up again with air necessary to release the brakes.

This station design provides no significant line of demarcation, barrier, or separation between passengers and the train. No handrails or barricades, no pedestrian overpass, no difference in elevation or raised platform, nothing but a damn yellow line. Apparently, the architect failed to take into account the abject stupidity of people, when they are distracted or in a rush. Yes, the person with the bike was, in fact, a dumbass. What was the designer's excuse?
