WoW 👏 ... took me back to my childhood days in 1970s. Baiyya na dharo Dastak (1970) Lyrics: Majrooh Sultanpuri The only film which fetched Madan Mohan ji an award - a National Award for Best Music - Dastak (The Knock) was a film that was far ahead of its time. Just for info... This 1970 movie was produced and directed by Rajinder Singh Bedi and it was his first movie as a director. Hrishikesh Mukherjee, the editor of the movie, won his second Filmfare Award for this movie after the first of Madhumati (1958). Dastak is the expanded film version of the director’s radio play Naql-e-Makaani (Moving into a new house), performed for the first time on All India Radio, Lahore (1944). The movie was considered to be an important movie of the decade. Rajinder Singh Bedi was awarded the Padma Shri in 1972. Sanjeev Kumar and Rehana Sultan won the National Best Actor and Best Actress Awards for this movie. Kamal Bose won the Filmfare Award for the Best Cinematography. This movie was also listed in the book 40 Retakes: Bollywood Classics You May Have Missed by Avijit Ghosh. Its box office failure affected the chances of its music in those days and the score, which included Hum hain mata-ae-kucha-o-bazaar and Tumse kahoon ek baat, remained something only music afficianados like us listened to and appreciated. Baiyya na dharo is quintessential Madan Mohan, with quietly complex melodies. Lata's voice flows with such effortless ease that she makes the song sound astoundingly simple... until you try to sing it. Madan Mohan ji made full use of the flexibility and range of Lata ji’s voice to create beautiful effects. Not only were his compositions ‘pure’ for Lata ji, they also challenged her to sing stretched notes with accentuation or to move between notes skillfully. It is a superb composition but let us not forget the contribution of Majrooh Sultanpuri. It was perhaps the first and the last time that Majrooh ji worked with Madan Mohan ji, and what superb lyrics he wrote for this movie. Just out of this world. Rahul... as usual excellent rendering! We learn so much from you... and I totally agree and always believed that we should not try to classify these songs. Just enjoy the beauty and appreciate the creation 😀 Cheers!

Rahulji, I listen to this song when I'm happy, sad, nostalgic. It was a favourite song that me and my childhood friend would sing together. She passed away just 4 months ago quite suddenly. You can imagine how I'm feeling listening to this in your voice. So much of 'theraav'. Thank you.

Rahul ji because of you my navratri fast got broken! This is not usual tuning in to any music for me but a very yearned and looked forward morning baithak with a very soulful singer! This song to be honest I heard only heard in bits and pieces and often whisked passed it several times and hummed it's tune but for the first time paid attention to it's lyrics and got goosebumps! ढलेगी चुनरिया, तन से हँसेंगी रे चूड़ियाँ छन से हँसेंगी रे चूड़ियाँ छन से ... छन से छन से हँसेंगी रे चूड़ियाँ छन से मचेगी झनका ..when you pay attention to these lyrics you instantly have the visualisation of the same and I actually saw the chuneri slipping and bangles laughing nautily and the ghoongaroos being gossip mongers announcing it to the world !l Great Madan Mohan ji indeed and the use of sitar and rag and the great combo that ever was of MM ji and our nightingale Lata ji is was and shall always remain ' magical' For me it's because of you I received my soul food and I am done for the day and that's how you broke my navratri fasting Rahulji!! So calming to listen to the song in original and then the endless variations which could have been possible from the 4 minute original. Another thing is perhaps you are also going through the process of thought which the composer *might have gone through.* Or maybe he did it in a single shot. We will never know. There may be a few musicians and artists who were involved in the making of the song still alive to tell the background story . And Lataji is still there. Rahulji, can you think of spending some time with Lataji and making an impromptu chat with her about the so many golden songs she has gifted us. The making, back story, etc. It will be a great treasure for generations to come.

Extremely wonderful singing, cant thank you enough how you explain in so detailed manner. Just one thing in the lyrics, the 2nd stanza of antara "मोहे छोड़ो हाए सजना" not " मोहे छेड़ो" i think when i listened to the original.
