The best thing about Pt. Swapan Chaudhuri's tabla playing is his delicate touch which is sonorous and sweet and is aesthetically so very refined that it seems as if his is a singing tabla.

While I fully recognise the need for a bigger space, I really liked the talks in the studio apartment, with Lord Buddha's statue in the backdrop. It feels more personal, and closer to the artist. Enough said, Parikh ji and his team has been doing a tremendous service to Indian classical music and it's audiences by bringing such great artists to talk about music. It really helps shrotas like us to evolve our understanding of indian classical music, and appreciate it's beauty at deeper level. Sadar pranam.

past594 : the size of the audience depends upon the popularity of the artist. The baithaks are held in our residence and not in a studio. With my age( 93 ) we would naturally prefer to have baithaks at home. But then.........

Dialogue is so pleasant, exchanges so thought-provoking. There is always humour (vegetarian going vocal rather than for tablas 😊) but my favourite part is his statement at 1’10’00 about the future of Indian Culture and Music. And his last statement about learning to surrender oneself 👍

Pt. Swapan Chaudhuri's dheredhere can not be explained, because apart from him, nobody can produce that sound and nobody ever will. It belongs to the legend. Pranam to the Tapaswi 🙏🙏

Absolutely! My own father said that about Swapanjees dhire dhire- and Ahmed Jan Thirkhwa, Alla Rakha, Zakir Hussian and swapan chaudhary and anokelal played with my father

I really enjoyed with respect every aspect of the baithak and the organizing panel honorably deserverves to be blissfully applauded. The tabla professor is broadminded about different tabla gharanas and their repertoires and his advice is not only priceless but carves a way to versatility for the serious student of tabla.

Hello, thank you for the videos. They are great. I would like to just add one comment. If swapanji had not come to the usa then he would have not taught one of my teachers John Churchville who shared the Lucknow Gharana with me. I would never had the opportunity to learn things that give me great pleasure. Will I ever be a master at the level of the best? No. It is not possible to go as far compared to starting at a very young age with the best talim day in and day out. But I am thankful for what I do have.

This baithak is centered on the beauty and laudability of dexterous tabla playing and its propagation and the interviewer did a very praiseworthy job of displaying a form of human psychology which genuinely prompted tabla professor to open up to the maximum without forgetting the houmour with which the indelible interaction progressed.

Punditji, ALL Rs 10 lakhs should go to the Guru. Nothing to the Shishya. Ustad Vilayat Khan Saheb (YOUR GURU) used to say (I have it on tape) "All the good (I play in a concert) belongs to my Gurus (plural), only the mistakes are mine". That is Ustad Vilayat Khan, for heaven's sake. Bollywood (and cricket) influence is silly and is ruining our culture.
