    Maybe these two suspension parts for Merc are the max and min, and by testing these two they can develop parts in between the max and min as well. Or maybe the final design will be modular and even extremely adjustable.

    The actual shape of the control arm doesn't make a difference to geometry. It's just the distance between the bushings and where they mount on the upright/chassis. All "bending" a control arm would do is effectively shorten the distance between the bushings. So the comment scarbs made about that is a bit misleading. You would raise the attachment point on the chassis to increase anti-dive.

    aero under heavy breaking and keeping the cg more stable. Track dependent for sure. They had to notice the tracks where red bull struggled and let’s see if they can at least be competitive there. I’m personally accepting Red Bull dominance but put up a proper fight for a win here and there hoping the RB has similar issues. But that new RB just looks the part so probably another fight for second.

    Could it be that HAAS performance under its operating model, is a key reason that Andretti Racing are being stifled in their efforts to join f1? I agree that the principle issue is probably how revenues are shared. However the 'HAAS model' is perhaps better suited to the US 'open wheel' circuit than F1. Andretti perhaps need to develop their own production and development facilities in order to demonstrate their commitment to a 'development class' competition as opposed to a 'class rule' series that they are used to. F1 is a 'step up' from traditional US race series, you can't just buy it and adapt it, you really have to design it and make it yourselves - not a simple transition.

    Scarb's comment on the performance volatility of the mid-field brings to mind a problem I've had for a few seasons with the current points structure. With how close 2/3 of the field are, only giving points to half the field feels a bit unfit for purpose. This isn't a "participation trophy" argument more feeling that the purpose in awarding points is to easily rank relative performance throughout the season and the current system doesn't seem to do a particularly good job of that. For example (and this is coming from a Williams fan), Alpha Tauri absolutely should have placed 7th in the Constructors' points last year as they had a better average finishing position. I know F1 is supposed to reward excellence, but it seems to me like the current system rewards luck a bit more...

  • @lightfeather9953

    @lightfeather9953

    3 ай бұрын

    True on the luck point, but I'd care more about the upper end of the standings when designing a points system. Nascar had a points system like you suggest, and champions would be determined by the least DNFs instead of the best results. Blow an engine or get wrecked on lap 50 after winning 3 races and you'll be 6th in the points. Thinking of Labonte in 96 or kenseth

  • @Ruylopez778

    @Ruylopez778

    3 ай бұрын

    Yeah, when you think about it, F1 cars are far more reliable in this era than the past. It would sort of make sense to give points for every car that finishes, but obviously heavily weighted towards the top positions. I wonder if it's possible to make the championships more open by changing the points system - especially seeing as so many fans are fixated on the championship battles as opposed to just the racing battles on track. The argument was always that the win should be significantly more points to encourage drivers to battle rather than settle for podiums. I wonder if this really makes sense. I suppose some would consider it unfair if a driver/team had many more wins than second position in the standings, but one DNF put them level. Maybe we need to go back to the old system of counting the 'best' results of the season, instead of every race.

  • @phonebem

    @phonebem

    3 ай бұрын

    @@lightfeather9953 I'd have no problems with weighting the points toward rewarding wins. Just throwing ideas out; but maybe bumping first to 30 pts, 23 for 2nd, 20 for 3rd, 18 for 4th, 16 for 5th, 14 for 6th then decreasing one point for each place down to 1 for 19th. You'd keep the 7 pt bonus for the win plus a bit of a premium for the top 5 while still giving a way to differentiate an 11th place finish from 20th unlike now. As I said I'm just throwing the idea out there, I was mainly just seeing if I was maybe the only one who sees a bit of a flaw in the current system.

    I think you need to understand that F1 is a constructors series and a dominant car has delivered drivers championships to exceptional pilots like Schumacher, Vettel, Hamilton and now Verstappen who are able to extract more out of the car over a season than their team mates. The gap between Max and Checo is particularly wide but seeing Perez finish second in the 2023 season in front of drivers like Hamilton and Alonso somewhat proves the point about the dominance of the RB19.

  • @Ruylopez778

    I think Checo is making the 2nd Red Bull look much worse than it is and depriving us of a teammate battle for the championship. But Verstappen's consistency, even when facing grid penalties and SC interrupting strategy has been impressive. The race pace of the Red Bull (and tyre wear) is clearly ahead of most teams at most circuits. The only problem is when they get the setup wrong.

    I'm feeling increasingly optimistic that we'll get to see Lewis earn his 9th. this year. Red Bull appear superficially strong, but the issues with horner reveal that below the surface they are collapsing. Even if their 2024 car is by far the fastest of the field, I question if Verstappen can handle the internal turbulence without entering an irrecoverable mental tailspin that will allow Lewis to secure the WDC by consistently outscoring him and making fewer mistakes and rash decisions. Lewis is a master of these situations, and his strategic affinity and experience from multiple hard fought championships puts him at slightly superior odds against Verstappen in 2024, even accounting for the car disadvantage.
